Bad lockdown habits you will need to quit

I may be alone in this, but there are certain habits I have developed in lockdown that really won’t translate well back in the real world....a certain deterioration of social acceptability has developed, given I’m not ‘under public scrutiny’ so much...

Mine include but are not limited to:

  • wearing clothes that perhaps need a wash, sometimes for many days. You can’t smell over Zoom
  • shaving. Or lack of.
  • talking to myself / the dog
  • drinking wine on my own
  • there’s something about my online shopping habits that seem very unhealthy. Buying ridiculous gadgets or ‘happy but useless objects’ on Amazon willy nilly so I’ve cupboards bursting with crap
  • browsing the internet when I should be working...this is out of control for sure, and I’ve no idea how I’d cope in an office again where it’s not acceptable to have tabs permanently open with mumsnet, news, Twitter, wayfair, Amazon etc.

Too much snacking.
Too much online shopping - I know I would never buy so many clothes from real shops as I do online.
Not always brushing my teeth in the morning.

MrBeagles · 04/03/2021 16:22

Drinking

Wearing only leisure wear despite doing no exercise

Thoughtcontagion · 04/03/2021 16:38

Eating too many Jaffa cakes

Having a little lay down because I fancy it whilst I reply to emails

Howshouldibehave · 04/03/2021 16:43

SoberCurious78 · 04/03/2021 16:53

@orlaquiver 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Brilliant

XenoBitch · 04/03/2021 17:03

Drinking.
Only bothering to wash/shower if I am seeing someone (once a week).

tootyfruitypickle · 04/03/2021 17:06

@orlaquiver that made me laugh! I have so many habits like this. I'm going to have to start really concentrating to break them

Arrowheart · 04/03/2021 17:08

@Crockof

Mouthing swear words under my mask, I have to wear in all day at work, I'm going to kinda miss it.
I will miss it when we stop wearing masks at the supermarket for this reason and this reason only!
WannabemoreWeaver · 04/03/2021 17:17

Telly on in the background with the sound off

Mumski45 · 04/03/2021 17:31

Wearing my dressing gown ALL the time. Even when dressed. Originally to keep warm as I don't want to put the heating on all day every day. I then decided that having 2 great big pockets was also quite convenient for my glasses/phone/sweets/etc. I am so used to wearing it now that I have nearly gone out without swapping it for a coat a number of times.

I am properly dressed for the day underneath it-not sure why I bother sometimes.

LApprentiSorcier · 04/03/2021 17:36

Wearing my nice comfy sleep bra all day. So my boobs merge as one with my tummy ... alluring ... not.

Back to the over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders that leave grooves in me Sad.

wanderings · 04/03/2021 19:28

Reading the news.

And thinking about the prime minister EVERY FUCKING DAY, and wondering why Her Majesty hasn't yet chopped his head off for treason (and Tony Blair's as well).

CravingTheSun · 04/03/2021 20:23

Eating bowls of cereal at any given point in the day (sometimes three bowls in one afternoon Confused)

dementedma · 04/03/2021 20:27

Not wearing a bra
Not wearing makeup
Wearing pj bottoms all day
Working while still in bed!
Drinking too much
Generally looking unkempt
Not wearing rings, watch or earrings.

God, I’m a total waynetta slob

Docketpuo · 04/03/2021 20:37

@orlaquiver that made me laugh, me too!

tobee · 04/03/2021 20:55

Crisps and biscuits

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 04/03/2021 21:02

Wearing bras without an underwire in them.

Mind you I’m not sure I can manage proper shoes and an underwired bra at the same time. One might have to go for be to survive the return to the office Confused

40somethingJBJ · 04/03/2021 22:54

I definitely need to start washing my hair more and wearing proper clothes! I’ve got a hospital appointment at 9am in the morning and I’m already stressed at the thought of getting up so early and having to put on something other than leggings and a slouchy top!

Oversize · 04/03/2021 23:01

Getting up for work in good time. I wake early enough but fuck about on my phone ease myself gently into the day for at least an hour.
Too much TV.
Too much phone.
I'll miss my shorter working day and the cutbacks I'll need to make to dog walks.
Getting out of the habit of spending lots of time with the dog will be really very hard.

CoolShoeshine · 04/03/2021 23:12

This thread should go into classics as a reminder of the last golden days of lockdown!
I’m personally going to have to remember to straighten all of my hair, not just the front bits which show on the screen.
Will be sad when lovely ds goes back to school next week and I can’t send him out for afternoon exercise (aka going to the corner shop to bring back creme eggs).
Also a random lunch from what you can muster up from the cupboard is always more exciting than a boots meal deal (sardines, ryvita and cheese followed by a mini twix mmmm).

CoolShoeshine · 04/03/2021 23:14

Also watching too much Daytime tv - feel like I’ve spent more time with piers bloody morgan this year than with my actual husband.

Kapalika · 04/03/2021 23:31

Personal hygiene and hair washing
Watching kuwtk
No more cake and packs of hobnobs
Shaving
Will miss the mask to cover the ‘tache
Wearing make up

ktp100 · 04/03/2021 23:41

I've had a sumo top bun for over a year now and I probably wear clothes I'd leave the house in like twice a month, at a push.

We haven't been starting homeschooling til 11 and we've sacked off loads of typical primary shite like making fucking Book Week hats to do things that don't kill brain cells.

I've seriously neglected the hoover.

Basically, it's been feckin BRILLIANT!!! [GRIN]

earthyfire · 04/03/2021 23:58

Snacking all day
Going out
Getting up before 9
Eating dinner early and together with children and husband
Going to bed before 3am
Lunch with my kids
Wearing proper clothes

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/03/2021 00:03

I’m a lecturer, so on days I don’t have a class first thing I get up at 8.55, log in, then don’t get showered/dressed/makeup until just before I am due to teach - I do at least do all of those things every day

Often teaching with the cat on my lap - I think my students will miss her too

Sitting with a hot water bottle as a back cushion

Doing house stuff - particularly washing, sweeping the floors - when I am supposed to be working

I am working much longer hours/more days than I am supposed to, so it all balances up I think
