Bad lockdown habits you will need to quit

hamstersarse · 04/03/2021 07:48

I may be alone in this, but there are certain habits I have developed in lockdown that really won’t translate well back in the real world....a certain deterioration of social acceptability has developed, given I’m not ‘under public scrutiny’ so much...

Mine include but are not limited to:

  • wearing clothes that perhaps need a wash, sometimes for many days. You can’t smell over Zoom
  • shaving. Or lack of.
  • talking to myself / the dog
  • drinking wine on my own
  • there’s something about my online shopping habits that seem very unhealthy. Buying ridiculous gadgets or ‘happy but useless objects’ on Amazon willy nilly so I’ve cupboards bursting with crap
  • browsing the internet when I should be working...this is out of control for sure, and I’ve no idea how I’d cope in an office again where it’s not acceptable to have tabs permanently open with mumsnet, news, Twitter, wayfair, Amazon etc.

Like a pp, turning nocturnal , bed time getting later and later and getting up later.
Leggings/Jeggings etc and being careless about the camel toe ( no-one sees me below the waist now after all )
Flat shoes/ trainers - heels are going to be murder

silkpillowcases · 05/03/2021 00:21

Washing my hair whenever I have a break in the day
Painting nails during meetings
Never wearing contacts anymore
Lunchtime naps

To be fair, I'm never going back to underwire bras- chucked them all

SpudsandGravy · 05/03/2021 00:33

Too little exercise.
Too much eating.
Too much drinking.
Living in my PJs and dressing gown.
Not tidying up because only I will see it.
Confused

PrincessNutNuts · 05/03/2021 00:40

@Mumski45

Wearing my dressing gown ALL the time. Even when dressed. Originally to keep warm as I don't want to put the heating on all day every day. I then decided that having 2 great big pockets was also quite convenient for my glasses/phone/sweets/etc. I am so used to wearing it now that I have nearly gone out without swapping it for a coat a number of times.

I am properly dressed for the day underneath it-not sure why I bother sometimes.

YESSSS!

A rude delivery driver openly eyed me with disdain when I answered the door in mine once, so I threw it open to show I was properly dressed underneath, just cold. (And the pockets are SO handy.)

Now my children tell people I flashed the postman. Grin

AgeLikeWine · 05/03/2021 00:41

Getting up at 0855 to start the working day at 0900, while still in bed.

Eating last night’s leftover pizza / curry / cottage pie for breakfast, instead of healthy porridge / weetabix etc.

Working while having Sky Sports on TV, particularly when the England cricket team are playing.

Four screens in use at all times. Laptop & monitor for work. TV for news & sport. IPad for random browsing.

Lunchtime shagging if DP is around.

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 05/03/2021 00:43

So many of these ring true. I don't know how I'm going to cope with getting up at 6, cleaning myself and smartening myself up. Then leaving at 7 and driving for 45 minutes. It all just seems so weird now.

I'm going to make myself put one on tomorrow and see what it's like.

Al uncomfortable and impractical footwear has already gone though.

I know. How did we do that?

And why???

Doesn't it just feel like an epic waste of time and energy?

PrincessNutNuts · 05/03/2021 00:46

I can't remember how to do make up,and I secretly enjoy putting a wash on every day so it never piles up.

PrincessNutNuts · 05/03/2021 00:47

I have lunchtime shagging envy now.

We've never managed that. Grin

Unsuremover · 05/03/2021 00:56

I’ve not been WFH and have been travelling all over the country (essential work) so I’ve become 1950’s husband. I come home after a week, kick my shoes off and sit in my chair. Children bring me things to show, I am informed food is ready and when it’s time for me to go away again my laundry is done and bag is packed complete with a sandwich for the train. To be honest I can see why they liked it so much, will be a bumpy road back to 50% of the chores I feel.

Happymum12345 · 05/03/2021 01:07

Eating twigglets whenever I’m stressed

Mockolate · 05/03/2021 01:38

Wearing a bra every day or getting out of pyjamas before midday

StressyWoman · 05/03/2021 01:38

Wearing proper clothes and not wearing a dressing gown for 15 hours a day. Leaving the house in the morning. Not wearing a mask out and worrying about what I look like.

Monkeytennis97 · 05/03/2021 02:37

This thread makes me feel better about myself Smile Thought I must be the world's biggest slob during lockdown, so happy I'm in good company with others GrinSmile

Mockolate · 05/03/2021 02:42

Lunchtime shagging Grin
Kids are home schooling, so yeah, not had that for a while lol

Giggorata · 05/03/2021 03:18

I forgot to mention how much I will miss watching the Snooker and my hot chocolate with fake Baileys.

@orlaquiver wins, though 🤣

Monty27 · 05/03/2021 03:58

Hahahaha @lunchtime shagging envy
I was told off by my WFH DD for berping loudly in the kitchen while she was on a zoom meeting 🤣

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 05/03/2021 09:46

@PrincessNutNuts

I know. I get the housework done in the mornings and at lunchtime, leaving the weekends free to relax. I'm also more productive at work because I'm not tired. This way of living seems so much more sensible.

likeamillpond · 05/03/2021 11:39

Mask related.
Breathing with my mouth open like a startled goldfish!

I'll have to try and remember I'm not wearing a mask and keep my mouth shut.

I

likeamillpond · 05/03/2021 11:44

Oh
And I'll have to start wearing underwear again. Both ends.

My favourite M&S comfy knickers became threadbare at the begini g of the year. I dont like essential supermarket pants so have been going commando most of the year.
To be fair I've been living in trackies bottoms most of the time.

Same here. We have leisurely Saturday mornings now! It's a revelation. Smile

I can't say I'm getting more sleep though because I like a bit of peace and quiet to myself when everyone else is down for the count. GrinIt's the only time I'm alone. Grin

EmilyEmmabob · 05/03/2021 18:24

Switching my camera off whilst I make a cup of tea, approx every 30 mins. Drinking tea at all during the day actually. Wearing leggings, napping instead of commuting home, Netflix in the background whilst not on meetings, staying up really late, laying in bed for an extra hour instead of commuting, the constant eating, colouring in my colouring book during really boring zoom meetings, not wearing make up.

There's a lot I'll miss! I'm wondering what part of working out of the home I'll actually be pleased to return to.

Wherediditgo · 05/03/2021 18:26

Smoking Sad

Soontobeseller · 05/03/2021 18:28

I honestly don’t know how I’ll ever get out of bed before 8 again.
