Bad lockdown habits you will need to quit

I may be alone in this, but there are certain habits I have developed in lockdown that really won’t translate well back in the real world....a certain deterioration of social acceptability has developed, given I’m not ‘under public scrutiny’ so much...

Mine include but are not limited to:

  • wearing clothes that perhaps need a wash, sometimes for many days. You can’t smell over Zoom
  • shaving. Or lack of.
  • talking to myself / the dog
  • drinking wine on my own
  • there’s something about my online shopping habits that seem very unhealthy. Buying ridiculous gadgets or ‘happy but useless objects’ on Amazon willy nilly so I’ve cupboards bursting with crap
  • browsing the internet when I should be working...this is out of control for sure, and I’ve no idea how I’d cope in an office again where it’s not acceptable to have tabs permanently open with mumsnet, news, Twitter, wayfair, Amazon etc.

Eating tea at teatime with my family eating proper meals all things I can't normally do as I get home at 1030.Lockdown has had many advantages for me.

Bedsheets4knickers · 04/03/2021 12:38

Wearing a bra 😜

BigTastyMmmmmm · 04/03/2021 13:01

I am genuinely jealous of all of you who have been furloughed or can WFH. I've had no time off from work at all and it's been really miserable to know everyone else is watching Netflix and having a lie in etc. 😭

Sandyjag · 04/03/2021 13:01

Messy eating. Mega slouching.

applesandpears33 · 04/03/2021 13:04

Wearing slippers or DMs all the time. I had to wear proper shoes a couple of weeks ago and my feet were aching after just twenty minutes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/03/2021 13:04

Even when I brush my hair now it stands up in random directions, so I'm not sure what the point is of brushing it.

I'm also conducting a fascinating experiment to see how long I can keep a pair of old holey jeans going. I fear the transparent effect that is now happening in the bum area is rendering them rather indecent, but the experiment isn't over yet. So I have to make sure that don't turn round to any delivery drivers.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/03/2021 13:04

Getting up at ten to 9 to start work at 9.
Wearing tracksuit bottoms all the time.
Shaving - don't bother in the winter anyway, why would I?
Drinking wine on my own - have always done this and I don't think it's harmful for me

"- browsing the internet when I should be working...this is out of control for sure, and I’ve no idea how I’d cope in an office again where it’s not acceptable to have tabs permanently open with mumsnet, news, Twitter, wayfair, Amazon etc."

Yep. I hate wfh, but I don't know how I'll cope without almost constant internet browsing.

HandyBendySandy · 04/03/2021 13:06

Making mug cakes.

Giggorata · 04/03/2021 13:48

Indulging my inclination to be semi nocturnal: staying up through the small hours and getting up later.
Haven't worn proper clothes much since lockdown, only leggings and fleeces. Just proper clothes for monthly meds collections and so forth.
Ditto for proper shoes, just walking boots for dog walking and boots for occasional outings. My feet have probably spread into pancakes...
Less housework, place is a tip.
Hygiene slipped a bit, wearing clothes for longer and less hair washing.
At first, I did more cooking and learnt some things via online courses, but increasingly less motivated to do anything much, bar read and binge watch.
A few unfinished projects are reproaching me from the corners...

Mamabear12 · 04/03/2021 14:25

We need to reduce drinking wine from 4-5 nights a week down to 2-3. But we are doing a strict diet called whole30 now, so that nips that in the bud lol. The diet is meant for 30 days (to reset the body) and then slowly introduce foods on the no list to see how it effects you. Not doing it for weight loss, but to get back on a healthy track. Day 4 and I feel great. Day 2 was the worst as I had a headache all day (probably lack of coffee!).

Will also need to get the kids out of bed an hour earlier! And to bed an hour earlier!

tenredthings · 04/03/2021 14:32

I don't know if I will ever be able to force myself to wear a bra again. I've taken to wearing Lidl vests instead ....so comfy !

edwinbear · 04/03/2021 14:32

Vaping all day long at my desk.
Washing my hair once a week.
Wearing make up again.
Having to wear heels again.
Having to be fully 'present' in my meetings, rather then claiming wifi issues, turning off my camera and vaping throughout......

Boulshired · 04/03/2021 14:34

I am going to need by dressing gown surgically removed although it is now referred to as my house coat. Starting removing it at front door for bins/ deliveries but now cannot be bothered. It’s that bad I know the DCs have ordered me a new one for Mother’s Day.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/03/2021 14:39

It's not socially acceptable for a cup of tea to be reduced to mere lubricant for an entire pack of biscuits, I remember that much.

edwinbear · 04/03/2021 14:40

Oh and I'm also going to have to take my heated throw into the office. I can't possibly be expected to work, without being wrapped up in a heated throw. That would be inhumane.

Cas112 · 04/03/2021 14:51

eating

GreenIcing · 04/03/2021 14:53

Looking at my phone constantly.
Eating cake for lunch.
Afternoon naps (I’ll be sad to give these up, actually!)

Flippyferloppy · 04/03/2021 14:56

In non-Covid times we have to be out of the house before 7:30. These days the alarm is set for 8:00. That 6:15 alarm is going to be a shock!
I've been wearing t-shirt fleece and jeans (or track suit) for a year now. No proper shoes. The office is going to be uncomfortable.
I'm going to miss watching the birds in the garden and getting to have lunch with DH every day.
I'll need to wash my hair more often.
No more sneaky kettlebell workouts during meetings

Missushbb · 04/03/2021 15:07

Is anyone likely to work from home more in the future? I don't think this would have been an option before but might be now

MrsBennetsnerves · 04/03/2021 15:19

Not going out to exercise. I did one zoom exercise session once per week and that was it. Also DH noticed his own fitness took a dive as he wasn't commuting. We started going out walking again about a month ago and since we both feel like arthritic crocks, are building it up gently.

Stoater · 04/03/2021 15:22

@peachypips78 a breville sandwich toaster could be the new accessory! Grin

PattyPan · 04/03/2021 15:39

Not getting up until about ten to 9 instead of my previous ten to 6!
Putting my hair in a bun instead of washing it
Checking MN throughout the day - I only started using it during lockdown 1
Reading emails/news/MN etc during meetings definitely not what I am doing right now

PattyPan · 04/03/2021 15:45

@BigTastyMmmmmm to be fair, my internet browsing just means I have to work later into the evening to get things done. I was working until about 10pm last night because I was too unproductive during the daytime and have deadlines (I work for an essential government body so technically a key worker despite wfh). So it comes back to bite me! 😫

Chimeraforce · 04/03/2021 15:50

Talking out loud whilst wfh. Nosey bitch alexa is probably listening.
Wearing pj's.
Not showering
Singing loudly to the radio
Late nights late mornings
Loads of stuff. I'm also dreading cycling in again. May have lost the skill.
Swearing and calling the clients names
Eating
Eye rolling

orlaquiver · 04/03/2021 15:54

Right this is a weird one..... I'm getting out of my joggers earlier and earlier I the way to the loo! Last night I noticed I was half way down the stairs and half my bum was out. I realised the habit needs to be broken before I return to the office or HR is going to have some complaints about me.
