Anyone else feeling deflated? It feels like England were given hope yesterday and we've not been given much. My area has basically been in lockdown (tier 3 or 4) since October. I do understand the need for caution and I suspect the English dates won't be met, but I'm scunnered tbh.

This goes a bit far, language wise...

GintyMcGinty · 23/02/2021 21:03

@dementedma you certainly summed up how I feel

Gil55 · 23/02/2021 21:06

I can't understand why people are posting "oh can't believe I still can't see my mum etc." Who's stopping you? I totally disagree with NS pursuing a zero elimination strategy. It's complete nonsense. As far as I'm concerned, I'll do what I consider safe for my family and see who I want and go where I please. Last time I checked, we don't live in a Police State. Although lately it's felt like it.

gracielooloo · 23/02/2021 21:20

Thanks @GintyMcGinty, marvellous 19th April for us too then!😭

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 23/02/2021 21:28

@dementedma that post is everything. It made me laugh and feel like it was myself talking. Exactly how I have felt today

Scottishskifun · 23/02/2021 21:58

I'm afraid it's worse then it seems as well. If you read the strategic framework which goes along with it the Scottish government has moved the positive rates that have to be achieved before dropping down a level to be in line with the WHO. So old tier 1 becomes tier 2 and tier 2 becomes 3 etc etc. Hence more people will be in stricter levels even with the vaccination programme.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/02/2021 22:14

I said to my friend earlier that I feel desolate today - after BJ yesterday I was a wee bit optimistic, what an idiot I am! It’s basically eight more weeks of this (we don’t have children so no personal excitement over schools) and then maybe tier three if we behave ourselves. We have 30 cases per 100,000 here.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/02/2021 22:15

Actually they just said 10 weeks on the news in a piece about hairdressers opening?

NaeBor · 23/02/2021 22:20

Those doing what they like and ignoring the regulations are exactly the reason restrict ions can't be lifted earlier.

This is bullshit. I can't even comprehend how people are still believing this.

Everyone I know who has caught covid (including myself) caught it FROM WORK or a childcare bubble related to that work. Three of those workplaces were gov or council ran, two completely non-essential and one could be done from home, but all three magically shoehorned into the "essential" category as so many employers have chosen to do.

If we really wanted zero covid we should have just shut the whole place down for a month. Properly. Given people a month to stock up / prepare, food workers and emergency services on the streets only, and everyone else allowed out once a week to buy essential food. Let it "rip" through households but actually, you know, stop the spread.

Instead we have half arsed it from the beginning, having quite literally the worst of both worlds.

And we are still half arse-ing it now.

Now it's months and months away apparently because of "people like you".

It's not.

Goalposts will be moved again because workplaces have remained open throughout, and now schools are opening and more things will follow.

And that ^ is not an argument to stay in lockdown. I wanted schools open and I want the lockdown to be over because it's ineffective, damaging people's health, ruining the economy etc.

But don't say it's "all these people breaking rules" who are spreading it when they will be a tiny, tiny minority of cases.

Nikki078 · 23/02/2021 22:21

I wondered why there was no mention of the upcoming election and how the planning for it fits in with the reduction of restrictions ... surely needs to be considered more carefully than opening up hairdressers or cinemas?

Scottishskifun · 23/02/2021 22:36

@chergar people are at breaking point which is completely understandable. That coupled with the shift in goal posts of the tier levels (so tier 1 positivity rate is now tier 2) is enough to push people over the edge.

I have been a strict follower of all the rules and haven't been in a supermarket in 11 months. But today's news was my breaking point. When England open up I'm visiting my family. I don't care if that breaks the Scottish regulations my family has been vaccinated. I'm not staying away any longer.

That's the problem with todays announcement no hope = well sod it nothing is changing.

LizzieMacQueen · 23/02/2021 22:47

Boris is Glass Half Full

Nicola is Glass Half Empty

My worry is that by the time things are all open again, the vaccines will start wearing off and we'll be back to square 1.

RedcurrantPuff · 23/02/2021 22:49

I loathe her. They have utter contempt for s1 - s3 children

frasersmummy · 23/02/2021 22:57

@RedcurrantPuff she has utter contempt for all secondary kids.
S4-s6 have lost so much teaching time and there is no mention of a plan to get them through their qualifications
But I do understand your frustration.. There is no plan to even get the youngsters back in.

It's a complete shit show

RedcurrantPuff · 23/02/2021 23:02

It’s awful @frasersmummy

notveryhappyhere · 23/02/2021 23:09

Actually just done with it now. Have followed the rules for 12 months but seeing the effect on my 16 year old is too much. Can’t even bring myself to tell his younger brother he’s got 6 weeks before he can go back to school. I’m making plans to let them see their friends. I’m not letting them suffer any more. We’re in a low incidence area and we’ve just had enough.

She’s misread this one - there’s going to be huge pushback.

notveryhappyhere · 23/02/2021 23:13

@chergar I’m happy to follow the regulations myself but seeing my children suffer is a different matter. Enough.

ssd · 23/02/2021 23:21

I've just checked, cases have gone up in my area. And now the whole of Scotland is spitting the dummy out and going to start doing what they want cos sturgeon didnt say everything will be great by june...hurrah....

So I definitely feel like we're fucked now.

No one expects her to say things are great but I do expect all children back in school. Numbers are lower than before Christmas and cases are going down plus we have a vaccine.

If we are “fucked” it’s her fault for treating the population with contempt.

Scottishskifun · 23/02/2021 23:29

@ssd I don't think people are spitting their dummies out because she didn't say things would be great by June.

People are rightly upset to find out that the tier system is coming back but will be even stricter and therefore for some LA mean no progress and more difficult to get basic freedoms back.
In addition its not based on the local data why go back to a regional approach but put everyone into tier 3 straight away? Several LA data is lower then tier 3 even by the new stricter WHO levels which Scotland is applying (by their own document).

I don't blame anyone for reaching breaking point I'm there myself. People needed a common goal to work to this didn't happen and people are going what's the point!

ssd · 23/02/2021 23:34

The SG are following data, not just giving out dates in the hope they are right. I'm gutted for my DS's too, but I'd rather have slow and cautious than the euphoria been felt in England. I dont trust everybody's pal Boris further than I could throw him.

I totally agree enough is enough now. I mistakenly thought P4-P7 not back till April and my 11 year old literally burst into tears. I then realized my mistake and she was much happier but the mental toll this is taking on all young people is so wrong now.

No the Scottish government is following modelling result not real life data two very different things. As if they were "following the data" for putting regions into tier system then Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, argyll and Bute and Scottish Borders would automatically go into level 2 under the new criteria and Orkney and Shetland into level 1/0. Please look at the data first before repeating words from NS!
MummaPI · 23/02/2021 23:43

I'm in England and I was very sceptical of Boris last night. His opener was its about data not dates and what has most of England got hung up on now, June 21st! Petitions for a Bank Holiday, people saying they are having big parties. I fear this is classic Boris making promises he cant keep. I would prefer to have one step at a time because if things don't go how he has mapped out there will be riots. We've been here so many times where he has said it will be normal by a date, last Easter, September, Christmas and every time it's gone tits up! I really hope he's right this time...
