Scottish announcement

Anyone else feeling deflated? It feels like England were given hope yesterday and we've not been given much. My area has basically been in lockdown (tier 3 or 4) since October. I do understand the need for caution and I suspect the English dates won't be met, but I'm scunnered tbh.

March 15 for P4-P7

frasersmummy · 23/02/2021 15:31

I am most annoyed about secondary schools.. How on earth are the kids going to get through any kind of exams when they might go back part time mid March but likely mid April..its just not workable

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 23/02/2021 15:39

I thought exams had already been binned off for 2021?

emmathedilemma · 23/02/2021 15:42

Whilst I thought BoJo's was somewhat ambitious and optimistic today's announcement from Queen Nicola has left me absolutely speechless. Most local authorities in Scotland have case numbers well below those in England yet we are basically staying in lockdown for another 2 months. She's gone too far this time IMO.

Mo819 · 23/02/2021 15:45

Compleatly depressing

Bedforme · 23/02/2021 15:48

I’m in England. Although there are t formally tiers there may be regional changes so I wonder if that will become tiers by default. Borris can then place the blame for tighter restrictions somewhere else.

Babdoc · 23/02/2021 15:56

Boris is by nature an optimist and also understands that people are fed up and need to be offered a least some hope of restrictions easing.
Sturgeon is by contrast a pessimistic control freak, who would prolong the pandemic and lockdown forever if it would keep the spotlight off her alleged lying over the Salmond enquiry.

There aren't any exams. There may be assessments in school but no proper exams. Teachers will decide grades
ssd · 23/02/2021 15:59

Boris talked a load of shit yesterday. And people fell for it cos they're desperate. NS us being more cautious and rightly so.

Mcmole · 23/02/2021 16:01

I'm miserable too. My family are in the south of England and I'm in Scotland....not seen them for over a year now. So sick of it all.

toolatetooearly · 23/02/2021 16:14

I definitely think NS has her mind on other things this week... the virus and the feelings of the Scottish people is probably low on her priority list

Orangeblossom1977 · 23/02/2021 16:32

XDownwiththissortofthingX I think it gives people hope, something to look forwards to. Also it was made clear it was dependant on targets being met, I think it was realistic really

AZ have said they would be able to supply all the vaccines needed before then and as it is up and running well, now they can see how many are getting done (and the target for the CEV was met before the date set) it seems reasonable to say all the adult population who takes it up will be vaccinated by then.

LarryVeest · 23/02/2021 16:37

I'm so disappointed about it all. I found out today that my daughter (16) has been self-harming for the last 4 months, and it's in large part due to how impossible she finds remote learning. I'm gutted for her...I can see how hard she's been trying , and she's just worried sick with it all.

WeIcomeToGilead · 23/02/2021 16:50

Awful update, really feel for everybody in Scotland. Especially my poor parents and siblings!

I was wondering- do I need to cancel holiday booked for may? If you’re all back in tiers.... am I allowed over the border? Can’t see any advice and keen not to lose half my money!

Rowanapp · 23/02/2021 17:03

This whole thing has become absolutely ridiculous now. I am a HCP and the hospitals I work are nowhere near overwhelmed. In the meantime I see huge harm from lockdown restrictions. Perhaps a loosening of restrictions would cause an increase in cases but I doubt it, seems to me the virus is highly seasonal and probably little affected by lockdowns anyway. Most spread is happening in hospitals, care homes and workplaces, not shops, gyms and pubs especially with the safety precautions in place. In my view they should get all school pupils back by March but use church halls/offices etc for secondary age pupils to allow more distancing. If the government were to throw some money and will at it I don’t see why secondaries couldn’t go back in a safe way. It would be cheaper than the havoc all this lockdown is causing. Hospitality and shops, libraries and gyms should open now with hygiene and distancing measures as before. WFH for those able to should continue until summer. We should not be contemplating vaccinating children until we have proper long term safety data in adults so zero covid isn’t happening anytime in the next few years. Vaccinating the vulnerable will have to do. The travel and meetings restrictions are largely being ignored now by many people and quite right too in my opinion. These sort of draconian restrictions are only acceptable as an absolute last resort for the shortest possible amount of time and that time is gone now. If they would announce something sensible like 2 households indoors max people might stick to it, but they can go whistle for this one.

Exactly.

I'm not paying a blind bit of attention to the regulations. I can hardly barge my way into the local cinema or book a table at a restaurant. But otherwise I'm going where I want when I want and seeing whomever I want.

midnightstar66 · 23/02/2021 17:20

We are in an area where cases are supposedly extremely low. We have dc at work who didn't come back this week due to being contacts of a positive case. Dd has had one day back at school before having to isolate due to a positive contact. It's definitely to soon the think stuff it

GintyMcGinty · 23/02/2021 17:26

John Swanney has now confirmed no change to Easter holidays meaning done kids not going back till 12th April.

So is everyone going to do what they like now? Confused
Fucking great.

No I can't do what I like because there is nothing to do. I do know that there's nothing to look forward to. Us farmers suffer from social isolation anyway and all of our events have been cancelled. Never mind I'll put on my fucking wellies and go and feed my fucking sheep. And lamb my fucking ewes. And never see anyone to have a good laugh and let off steam. The most exciting trip I've had recently is taking the cat to get an injection for cat acne. I look like the wreck of the Hesperus. I need a haircut and a pedicure. Nicola looks like she's had a hair cut Hmm

Our local authority won't be back until the 19th April after Easter. My senior phase child has one class in the next 2 weeks for a subject that needs a practical element done.

I don't see why they can't just be honest and say that our Secondary pupils will not be back until after the Easter Hols. That is what it amounts to.

C0RAL · 23/02/2021 18:39

@dementedpixie

That says 5 miles from a local area boundary. I'm in North Lanarkshire so does that not suggest I could travel across any of its boundaries by 5 miles? Local authority areas are quite large so I could travel quite a distance
Yes that’s what I think too. I can travel about an hours drive from where I stay, as it’s a large local authority.
museumum · 23/02/2021 18:43

I liked the up to four adults for Easter weekend outside and six adults outside by the end of the Easter holidays. I’m so so so glad that under 12s have never been included in our numbers. We can definitely enjoy seeing other families with both parents at the same time!

I don’t believe a word Boris says and actually don’t trust him to contain the spread either so although I’m not a snp fan I do have higher trust in Nicolas way of doing things.

museumum · 23/02/2021 18:47

Oh it’s actually up to 6 adults from Easter Monday. We can maybe see inlaws for a late Easter egg hunt. They’ll like that.
