Will masks go too on the 21st June?

I know that all the plans to unlock outlined by Boris today are subject to change, but was wondering if people think that the mask laws will end on 21st June if all else goes to plan? Do people think we'll still be compelled to wear them in supermarkets etc or will it be optional? Personally, I am looking forward to burning mine Grin

As its passed on by respiratory droplets and aerosols I will continue wearing a mask

lunapeace · 22/02/2021 19:56

I think so yes, but to return over the winter months.

OliveTree75 · 22/02/2021 19:56

Patrick Vallance has just said next winter we may need masks in some situations, so sounds like they might go over the summerSmile

Kimye4eva · 22/02/2021 19:58

I’ve never been a lipstick person but I’m overjoyed at the thought of being able to go out wearing lipstick and not worry about it smudging.

dalegirlinthedales · 22/02/2021 19:59

I would be so pleased to see the back of them even for a few months!

I think it’s become voluntary rather than compulsory. I will ditch mine the second they’re not mandatory anymore!

RMRM · 22/02/2021 20:05

I love them so I'll probably keep wearing them for a bit.

Absolutely! I'm burning mine in the back garden... could get all Pagan with it being the summer solstice Wink

I've quite enjoyed them when it was bastard cold the last few weeks, wore them loads. Definitely looking forward to binning it.

Bluebelldaffodil · 22/02/2021 20:20

This was my first thought when I saw the road map. I cannot wait to be rid of the wretched things!!

RedcurrantPuff · 22/02/2021 20:22

I can’t wait to be rid of them. My husband has said he’ll continue to wear them as he doesn’t mind them

Lelophants · 22/02/2021 20:42

It's funny but it's made me realise how disgusting people are when you're walking around the shops, so I think I'll keep mine on.

dalegirlinthedales · 22/02/2021 20:45

I'm so over worrying about germs and thinking everyone else is 'disgusting'... normality here we come! (hopefully Wink)

I can imagine that they'll stay in certain scenarios. I bet things like eyebrow & eyelash techs etc. Will have to keep them - things where you basically pay for someone to touch/be very close to your face etc.

Yes that would be fair enough. Hairdressers, beauty therapists, dentists etc can all keep them
Silvergreen · 22/02/2021 20:58

Yes I expect so. Can't imagine people in nightclubs dancing with masks on 😂

Nothing would surprise me after this year!

Maybe masks will be needed on the way into the nightclub then can be taken off on the dance floor. A bit like in restaurants

OddshoesOddsocks · 22/02/2021 23:56

I don’t think I’ll ever want to go into a shop without one!

People are gross and selfish and I wish it was mandatory to wear one every time you had a cough or cold. I’d rather have the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask in a shop than the massive inconvenience of being ill and looking after 3 kids because I’ve inhaled someones germ ridden droplets ta very much!

freezingcoldsnow · 23/02/2021 07:12

Taking covid out of the equation for a minute, we do need to be exposed to germs to get decent immune systems, especially children's developing ones.

I'd also worry about the long term effects of breathing the chemicals / washing powder residue on masks.

These for me tip the balance once the risk of covid is lower. That and ensuring decent communication with people.

PuzzledObserver · 23/02/2021 08:00

On balance, I think they might be compulsory beyond 21st June - maybe another 5 weeks to see how it goes type of thing. And I also think it is quite likely they will be reintroduced next winter.

Fatandfifty49 · 23/02/2021 08:03

I think they'll stay a bit as I don't think everyone will be vaccinated.

I'm used to mine now and I don't have to do my moustache

Roselilly36 · 23/02/2021 08:03

I am definitely in the burn the masks camp, absolutely awful, I hate wearing one.

doireallyneedaname · 23/02/2021 08:06

I think masks will be around for a while yet. Clearly we’ve learnt nothing as a nation despite the pandemic.

mcclucky · 23/02/2021 08:24

I'd like them to stay in everyday life.

As for wearing them in nightclubs - when you go clubbing, you expect close contact, so maskless is fair play there! Wink
