Will masks go too on the 21st June?

I know that all the plans to unlock outlined by Boris today are subject to change, but was wondering if people think that the mask laws will end on 21st June if all else goes to plan? Do people think we'll still be compelled to wear them in supermarkets etc or will it be optional? Personally, I am looking forward to burning mine Grin

I can't wait to get rid of them. They are absolutely disgusting and making children wear them at school is just wrong.

Don't believe they achieve anything other than making people feel safe.

I think masks are here to stay. I will wear them when shopping. Absolutely.

GirlInterruptedAgain · 23/02/2021 10:31

I can’t understand - of course masks are proven to be effective. How ridiculous. What have you been reading and watching? Never heard a surgeon complain ever about wearing a mask every day, for 20 hour operations to save life’s. they are all
Fine and not ‘suffocating’. You need a better mask if you’re suffocating. Of course they are preventative. Have you seen how far droplets travel from the mouth even when you are just talking? Cinema, tube,bus, train, plane, shops schools. Yes. Absolutely yes. Keep the mask and stop breathing your germs all over me.

Ive quite enjoyed not being coughed/sneezed on with people wearing masks, will be a shame to no longer have them!

Keratinsmooth · 23/02/2021 10:32

I look much better in a mask... hopefully can continue wearing them

SmallPrawnEnergy · 23/02/2021 10:37

I started wearing them before they were mandatory in shops and I'll wear one for as long as it makes me feel more comfortable.
The thing is though, masks protect others not the wearer so, as you can see from this thread people don't care about others safety so you may as well bin it.

Those who want to keep wearing masks because they don't like getting a cold now and again are going to do a number on their immune systems and end up seriously ill with something that shouldn't make them so sick. If your body can't build up immunity and the ability to fight back then something small will end up wrecking you like the boy in the bloody bubble. And it will happen because masks will not prevent you getting something eventually.

Chatterbox1987 · 23/02/2021 10:39

@HappydaysArehere

The wearing of masks should go on if there is any common sense at all. The only way we are going to achieve freedom is to do everything to protect ourselves that we can. If wearing masks is a gateway to shopping, going on holiday well what the hell.
For how long...

So everyone in Japan has a wrecked immune system? Who knew?
CocoPark · 23/02/2021 10:47

God I hope they do go. Masks are not a gateway to normality except perhaps for very cautious people (who would still be free to choose to wear one).
For normal shopping and leisure activity to resume, masks must become optional only as soon as possible.

You make a good point. I've bought some FPP2 masks, which I understand may confer a little more protection to the wearer. I wear a cloth mask on top of it. At this point in time, any mitigation which lowers viral load getting in my face is fine by me!

Totally agree with this. I'm quite concerned about how few germs my children have come into contact with this year. They've had the odd runny nose from nursery but that's it.

Germs and viruses are a part of life! People don't tend to actively seek illness, but beyond normal hygiene, I won't be going out of my way to avoid germs.

That being said, i think awareness will be higher of hand hygiene and not spreading colds knowingly. I think that sanitiser in shops may well stay (though hopefully subtly, like it always was outside hospital wards), wearing masks with a mild cold could be normalised, and I hope that presenteeism is reduced, and employers are more open to WFH if workers are ill, but well enough to work.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/02/2021 10:49

But how are people going to let everyone else know how caring and amazing they are without such a visible sign on their face?

Maybe they'll have T-shirts printed.

everythingisstillginandroses · 23/02/2021 10:52

How will people let everyone know how cool and rebellious and individual they are when everyone stops wearing masks?

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 23/02/2021 10:57

@everythingisstillginandroses

So everyone in Japan has a wrecked immune system? Who knew?

The Japanese have worn masks for years for a host of bizarre reasons that have nothing to do with stopping the spread of germs. There are plenty of aspects of Japanese culture I do not wish to emulate.
