Will masks go too on the 21st June?

I know that all the plans to unlock outlined by Boris today are subject to change, but was wondering if people think that the mask laws will end on 21st June if all else goes to plan? Do people think we'll still be compelled to wear them in supermarkets etc or will it be optional? Personally, I am looking forward to burning mine Grin

Anyone who thinks masks will be going anywhere over the next couple of years is, to be blunt, deluded.

I can imagine other social distancing measures e.g 2 metre rule being scrapped by September due to the negative effects on businesses though. Masks are quite an ‘easy’ precaution to keep in place in that sense, and may help to get more nervous people out snd about more, spending money!

Kokeshi123 · 23/02/2021 08:29

I think masks are and should be one of the last things to go.

Here in Japan, the majority of things have stayed "fairly" normal (or at least semi-normal) throughout-we never even had a full lockdown here and schools have been openfully open, no rotassince June last year. I think the two big factors are a) much more attention paid to ventilation and b) everyone, but everyone, wears a mask indoors just about everywheresurgical paper masks in most cases.

I'd rather not have masks in an ideal world, but if they make it easier to keep most other aspects at least "somewhat" normal, I'll wear one without complaint.

I will be having a bonfire too. Hideously awful things. Cannot WAIT to be rid of them.

Although seeing as I'm in Scotland, Nicola will probably tell us to wear our masks until June 2029, with a state-issued tartan one for all. Hmm

RJnomore1 · 23/02/2021 08:34

Another burn the masks here, if it’s still ldw I have to wear them I won’t be able to go out regardless of what’s open. I hate anything over my face and every supermarket trip at the moment ends with me trying not to hyperventilate.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/02/2021 08:34

Can we also have a bonfire for the word "deluded"? Thanks.

SpeckledyHen · 23/02/2021 08:39

I’ve ordered 2 lipsticks in anticipation to celebrate.

Whathappenedtothelego · 23/02/2021 08:39

They are the restriction I am looking forward to being rid of the most!

megletsecond · 23/02/2021 08:42

I'll be keeping mine for winter. I don't have a problem with them. Keep me cosy in bitter weather and I can run in my cotton ones.

Haenow · 23/02/2021 08:46

As much as I want masks to go, if they mean more things can be normal, I’d suck it up in certain circumstances. I wouldn’t mind masks on public transport and in hairdressers, for example, but I’d hate them for days out like museums and cinemas.

lunapeace · 23/02/2021 08:48

@Racoonworld

Maybe masks will be needed on the way into the nightclub then can be taken off on the dance floor. A bit like in restaurants
Have you ever been to a nightclub haha!

The wearing of masks should go on if there is any common sense at all.
The only way we are going to achieve freedom is to do everything to protect ourselves that we can. If wearing masks is a gateway to shopping, going on holiday well what the hell.

sociallydistained · 23/02/2021 09:38

They hide a multitude of sins I’ll continue wearing for supermarkets etc. Not when sitting inside for ages though.

bluewanda · 23/02/2021 09:44

Oh I hope so! I don’t mind wearing one in the winter so much, but in the summer when it’s 30C out and you’re hot and sweaty? No thanks.

everythingisstillginandroses · 23/02/2021 09:45

I started wearing them before they were mandatory in shops and I'll wear one for as long as it makes me feel more comfortable. As an early adopter of Covid, I don't need some out-of-his-depth journalist who's also had the virus to tell me what I should or shouldn't wear on my own face.

Well of course you will have your personal choice to continue wearing your mask- after all it sucks being told what to do and what to wear Wink

Hope so.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/02/2021 10:01

Exactly, there is not going to be a law banning the wearing of masks. If you want to wear one forever and a day, crack on.

But lots of us will be binning the wretched things the very SECOND the law is changed back.

squashyhat · 23/02/2021 10:08

It took me a while to find comfortable ones which don't make my glasses fog up so they are not going anywhere this year.

DdraigGoch · 23/02/2021 10:14

They'll be with us in shops and on public transport for some time. Probably until covid is a non-issue. Hopefully we'll take on the Japanese culture of wearing them whenever you've got a cold.

Chimboo · 23/02/2021 10:15

Oh I do hope so. I hate the wretched thing and the day it goes in the bin will be a fine day indeed.

nordica · 23/02/2021 10:17

Either people STILL don't understand masks protect other people, or there are just lots of selfish people on this thread. Hmm Is it really that hard to wear a mask when you're on a crowded train or bus, for example? If everyone in your office agrees to not wear them, fair enough.

PinkSpring · 23/02/2021 10:18

I want them gone ASAP, I hate them. There is also very little evidence that they do anything - they just seems to make people touch their faces even more than normal!

No chance am I having another summer of wearing them during hot weather - it was awful.

AuntieStella · 23/02/2021 10:18

I think they'll stay for public transport and health/care settings

And it'll be billed as a suspension over the summer, because they might be needed in other indoors shared spaces during peak winter virus season

Annabellesdad · 23/02/2021 10:20

I've found mine useful for keeping the cold air off my chest when cycling to work this winter, I'll probably keep hold of a couple for this reason, but the minute they aren't mandated for shops etc I'll be happy!
