Following the prime ministers announcement, the road map suggests that (subject to the usual caveats) we could be free of restrictions by end of June. Thoughts? Too soon? Not soon enough?

They've brought them into Secondary school classrooms

Xenia · 22/02/2021 16:53

Far far too late.
At least my daughter#'s wedding can now go ahead in March but they will only allow FOUR guests. The 3 month ban in London has been the longest since the 1500s I believe - utterly unacceptable.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 22/02/2021 16:54

I really. Hope so because I'm desperate to go on holiday for May half term

Chailatteplease · 22/02/2021 16:56

Couldn’t be happier about this news. Our wedding is in July, which was a risk but having already postponed it twice, thought it was worth it.

Not to mention my children being able to see their friends and be properly educated again.

Last but not least, it’s really started to take a toll on my mental health and being able to see a way out has allowed me to feel a little more positive.

Covid has taken enough from me and my family. I think the doom mongers on this thread should shut their traps to be honest!

RedToothBrush · 22/02/2021 16:56

I genuinely only see slippage on this being a month at most tbh.

There would have to be a real curve ball thrown for it to be longer.

FOUR guests? Sad
User133847 · 22/02/2021 16:57

June looking hopeful, but if you've been shut away for 15 months and June arrives and you're potentially another month away from a vaccine then what's another month?

PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 16:59

Covid has taken a lot from my family too, but my view is a sustainable unlocking is needed. The modelling for September onwards based on this plan looks quite shit.

You can call me a doom monger, I'm a person whose life has been fucked over by false promises twice so far.

What modelling?!

There's an election coming. Announce this then have an election. Everyone is so thankful that the past wrongs will be forgotten and the Tory party will again take victory.

Parker231 · 22/02/2021 17:03

@xenia - if your DD decided on May instead she can have 30 guests and it’s only a few weeks longer to wait from the March allowing of a four guest wedding

BarbaraofKent · 22/02/2021 17:03

Yay, so excited for this!

What are we all wearing on 21st June? Grin

Survivingmy3yearold · 22/02/2021 17:03

@PracticingPerson Do you have any links or sources with the modelling for September, would be curious to take a look

Echobelly · 22/02/2021 17:09

It's the hope that kills you - that date is just days before daughter's rescheduled bat mitzvah; I'm not going to let myself believe it.

I don't actually think things will necessarily be a disaster if they truly do go by the data and keep these as earliest possible dates. They must know the media will be reporting these as immovable dates and will put pressure on them to 'reopen when you said'. Trying to shift responsibility?

BaconAndAvocado · 22/02/2021 17:14

😂😂
I’ll hopefully be wearing a lovely summer dress from the Before Times that I’ll be able to fit into after my amazing Lockdown 3 transformation.....

PicsInRed · 22/02/2021 17:15

@Donoteatthekittens

New variant with a 100% death rate which the vaccines don’t work on will be found in May and we will back into lockdown...
Ha! Probably.

I'm pretty sceptical when they require the NHS not to be overwhelmed as one of the prerequisites and I feel worse about the whole thing than I did this morning. Fucked off and beyond fed up.

The NHS is overwhelmed EVERY WINTER! It's at capacity somewhere a large amount of the year! They might as well have said "when the grass is green or the sky is blue".

This is Christmas all over again and I think the fuckers are going to take it back and fuck us over in May.

Fuckers. FUCKERS!

Ha, sounds about right.
freezingmytoesoff · 22/02/2021 17:31

@Donoteatthekittens has also been posting similarly goady comments on at least one other thread about this. They're also a PBP so not really surprising...

ilovesooty · 22/02/2021 17:49

@SATSmadness

Well, some of the posts I've been reading over the weekend on MN don't fill me with confidence. Namely the "well if schools open fully, I might as well socialise at the school gates", "visit my mum/nan" "pop round to Jean's for coffee" etc etc. I'm concerned that now we'll be getting attitudes of "well, what's the difference, why wait another fortnight/month/2 months for freedom, I won't be controlled anymore, my mental health is suffering"

I think Boris is setting out what is achievable if we stick to the guidelines/rules. I'll be sticking to them as I desperately want that timetable to work for all of us. I shall be mightily pissed off if a section of society who "can decide for themselves what risks they will take" fuck it all up with premature resumption of their social lives.

Absolutely agree.
Echobelly · 22/02/2021 17:53

TBH, I see schools being open as a reason to be more careful/continue to be careful about seeing anyone else.

Chailatteplease · 22/02/2021 18:02

@poppycat10

Don't get rid of your masks, if we carry on wearing them in the winter we might avoid flu etc.
I’ll be burning mine as soon as they’re not required. Absolutely hate them.
PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 18:06

What modelling?!

The modelling isn't on this precise plan, but there was modelling done by sage on the scenarios e.g. unlocking everything very soon, slower, slower, slowest The scenario closest to the one picked by the government shows a resurgence in September, similar to last year. The difference being the vaccines of course. But the vaccines don't fix it, just make it much better, variant dependent.

I'm not very positive about the government approach, but I have no more access to a crystal ball than anyone else.

BIWI · 22/02/2021 18:09

@Sparklingbrook

My nephew was born at the beginning of Feb 2020. I've seen him three times, the last 2 socially distanced. I bet when I can finally give him a big squeeze and a hug he won't want one!
I have a great niece born in September who I've never met - only seen photos so far! Very much looking forward to the chance of a cuddle with her.
Wakemeuuuup · 22/02/2021 18:19

I really hope so. I wonder if my son will get a yr11 prom after all

BIWI · 22/02/2021 18:32
