Following the prime ministers announcement, the road map suggests that (subject to the usual caveats) we could be free of restrictions by end of June. Thoughts? Too soon? Not soon enough?

How wonderful if it is the case. I can barely envisage it-can we all remember what to do? Grin

NeverSurrender · 22/02/2021 16:36

@Donoteatthekittens

New variant with a 100% death rate which the vaccines don’t work on will be found in May and we will back into lockdown...
Bloody hell, you're a bundle of positivity aren't you!
ChocOrange1 · 22/02/2021 16:38

Lifting "legal limits on social contacts" doesnt necessarily include social distancing and masks as they are guidelines, not laws. However there is no law to stop you hugging family and I doubt people will be strictly social distancing if everything else is open.

@pinkearedcow

Oh *@beaniecats*, you have to come and spread some gloom. Are you disappointed that your "we will never get our rights back" narrative is crumbling?
We haven't yet though. Lot of caveats
Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 16:39

Tbf I need to practice wearing shoes and a bra Grin.

Circumlocutious · 22/02/2021 16:40

A 100% fatal variant would have minuscule opportunity to spread, because it kills its hosts so quickly. So not scary in the slightest.

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2021 16:41

My nephew was born at the beginning of Feb 2020. I've seen him three times, the last 2 socially distanced. I bet when I can finally give him a big squeeze and a hug he won't want one!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 22/02/2021 16:41

@Beebityboo

frantically googles how much weight can I lose by June 21st?
This made me laugh!
Beebityboo · 22/02/2021 16:41

@beaniecats I was only teasing, it's been a horrible time and it's understandable to feel pessimistic after all of this. It's so important to look forwards though and I think the whole bloody country needed this lift today.

SATSmadness · 22/02/2021 16:41

Well, some of the posts I've been reading over the weekend on MN don't fill me with confidence.
Namely the "well if schools open fully, I might as well socialise at the school gates", "visit my mum/nan" "pop round to Jean's for coffee" etc etc. I'm concerned that now we'll be getting attitudes of "well, what's the difference, why wait another fortnight/month/2 months for freedom, I won't be controlled anymore, my mental health is suffering"

I think Boris is setting out what is achievable if we stick to the guidelines/rules. I'll be sticking to them as I desperately want that timetable to work for all of us. I shall be mightily pissed off if a section of society who "can decide for themselves what risks they will take" fuck it all up with premature resumption of their social lives.

poppycat10 · 22/02/2021 16:42

I think 21 June is too early for indoor mass gatherings. But if everyone/the vast majority has really been vaccinated by then, then I guess why not?

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2021 16:43

If and when the face mask rule is lifted I am going to be straight into John Lewis make up counters for 50 shades of lipstick. Grin

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 22/02/2021 16:43

Fingers crossed for 21 June!

typicalvalues · 22/02/2021 16:44

Oh please God, make it true!

TheDogsMother · 22/02/2021 16:45

I saw that from 12th April self catering accommodation could re-open but there didn't seem to be any mention of overseas travel. Or have I missed something ?

TokyoSushi · 22/02/2021 16:47

I expect that we might still have a bit of social distancing and masks in enclosed spaces etc, which I don't really mind, but the plan does seem to be for things to be much, much better by 21st June.

HerbsnSpices · 22/02/2021 16:48

Does this mean I no longer have to wear a muzzle when I go into a shop and at work for 9 hours a day (non-NHS)?

I f*cking HATE wearing masks.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 16:49

They were going to do a review about foreign travel at some point

Howshouldibehave · 22/02/2021 16:50

So was anything said about flights/quarantines?

I will be having a mask bonfire at the earliest possible opportunity-you can join me!
LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/02/2021 16:52

@SendMeHome

Didn’t he caveat that masks and social distancing weren’t included in the “all legal limits” part, and would be reviewed and we’d be updated before stage 3?

I was half listening at that point as I’m working but I thought that’s what he said.

@SendMeHome think that forms part of a review to be complete by April 12. Like the foreign travel one.
Jkmay · 22/02/2021 16:53

I'm not going to jump up and down with delight just yet, however I feel cautiously optimistic and really hope that this will turn out to be the case. I think it feels different this time with the vaccination program on course and there could be a real possibility that all restrictions will be lifted.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/02/2021 16:53

@Howshouldibehave

That forms part of a separate review. To be complete mid April.
poppycat10 · 22/02/2021 16:53

Don't get rid of your masks, if we carry on wearing them in the winter we might avoid flu etc.
