Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

Plus a lot of o/s people adding on with anti stuff,

Hurrah for vaccines getting used out of this.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/02/2021 11:38

This is intended to be a positive thread - and therefore should be politics free. But since it has been raised - the success of the vaccine rollout is down to the NHS pumping it into arms rapidly, Doris's only role was to supply it. That does not outweigh the incompetence of locking down too late - more than once - and therefore killing tens of thousands of people. Nor does it mitigate running down the NHS for years so that it has struggled to cope, failing to stockpile PPE so that we are all going to be paying far more for this pandemic than was necessary or contracts given to incompetent cronies - and again costing more than was necessary. Now those paying for it will not be those who have profited from the pandemic

You see, I agree with all of that. I'd lead with that if I were going to make a political point. I wouldn't just carpet bomb misery and insults at anyone with the temerity of being optimistic about the vaccines. Anyway, I agree...this is not the space for politics but it might be a space where a degree of scepticism might be considered about the motivation of those who would insist you adopt their gloomy outlook.

Anyway - more good news - at least I think so anyway, the JCVI are sticking with a rollout based on age beyond phase one of the roll out and have said this is because the simplicity of the order lends itself to a fast and efficient roll out.

JemimaPyjamas · 26/02/2021 11:49

@HalfDutchGirl whereabouts are you...?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/02/2021 11:54

The only thing I will add to the politics discussion is to say, I hope uncontroversially, that watching the amazing competence of the often criticized NHS as they show what they can do when they have the resources is wonderful.

herecomesthsun · 26/02/2021 11:55

Hurray for the vaccines! hurray for the science! hurray for the vaccinators and the NHS roll-out!

Well some of the optimists demonstrate clearly from their posts (whatever they say about voting intentions) their aim to encourage everyone to overlook that we have lost so many lives - and are paying so much for this - because of incompetent governments. It is not only the mistakes of this government but of it's immediate predecessors.

Some people struggle with their mental health and are unable to see a way out of darkness. After a year of this more people are struggling with their mental health than normal.

I'm going to be posting this study on conspiracy theory posts

People who believe COVID-19 conspiracy theories tend to struggle with scientific reasoning, study finds www.bostonglobe.com/2021/02/24/nation/jj-one-shot-vaccine-appears-fare-better-against-worrisome-covid-19-strains-than-first-reported/

TeenMinusTests · 26/02/2021 12:00

Also near sunny South Coast.
Lovely warm sunshine. Sat on a bench and soaked it in. Smile

My 90s DF now has appointment for his second dose. Smile

OrangeBananaFish · 26/02/2021 12:05

I managed to persuade DH to book his vaccination. He gets carers allowance so is eligible and had no issues on the NHS booking site. He was putting it off because he doesn't feel like he should get it yet as he is not vulnerable. He knew he could, but not quite 40 and having no underlying conditions he didn't feel it was right to take a vaccine from someone more worthy. He is booked in for mid March for his first.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/02/2021 12:06

Well, I'm not one of them. I'm just see the efficacy of the vaccines, I see the 94% (according to the ONS today) of people willing to take them and I see the speed of the roll out and I'm optimistic that my children will be able to go to school and I can get out of this bloody house after the soul crushing but necessary year of shielding...and I.can't.bloody.wait.

This is a positive thread isn’t it?

Annoying to read this here

MarshaBradyo · 26/02/2021 12:16

I am optimistic I don’t care if others do differently

As long as I can have one thread on mn that is with others who post positively

FourTeaFallOut · 26/02/2021 12:16

You are welcome to go ahead and check my posting history over the whole on the pandemic, I haven't changed my name over that time. You won't find anything complementary about the government this time last year, or even now to be fair. I'd have to have been playing the long game and cross my fingers that the vaccines would come along to be secretly fly a Tory flag a year in the future in the subtext of being relieved and hopeful about vaccines.

herecomesthsun · 26/02/2021 12:20

Really sorry, the Gwyl Dewi festival page is being attacked by spammers. Apologies, please be careful if anyone was interested as some of the links are dodgy

Pomegranatespompom · 26/02/2021 13:24

Gorgeous sunny day here. So nice to see the nhs positive comments.
Had a 2 hour walk.
Totally justified to have a scone and a wine later ?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 26/02/2021 13:39

Hello fellow secret Tory party lovers thread 😂😂😂😂

The weather is beautiful here. Bright sunshine, fairly warm and lots of plants awakening. It really feels like spring is arriving ❤

The latest new about the vaccine schedule is good. Way to complicated to do anything but age order next. Don't need those jabs getting slowed down. Plus I am late 40s. So will be next as my area are on 50s Grin

I was pleased to hear this too
Level75 · 26/02/2021 13:50

Great news that a single dose of the Pfizer vax decreases transmission by three quarters.

I'm personally v happy 40-49 is the next age group.

Good News part 11 - Picnics galore as we head into spring
Pomegranatespompom · 26/02/2021 13:56

That is excellent news!!

I might do some gardening abs have a gin and tonic later. Lucked out with days off in the sun.

I’m a floating voter too - I don’t think some people would be happy with anything this government does.
I got bashed a few weeks ago for donating to food banks - apparently that makes me a smug, Tory, let them eat cake type.
I do like cake though.

Level75 · 26/02/2021 13:58

I've just posted in the gardening section as I spent yesterday moving plants around my garden (e.g. Foxgloves to the back). It was so satisfying!

MarshaBradyo · 26/02/2021 14:00

I’ve spent the day in the garden too

So nice

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/02/2021 14:03

We had lunch in the garden! Without coats!

Truely that’s excellent news!
I am 49 but dh is 5 years older and he hasn’t been called yet so it will be a while here, but I think I probably had covid last spring so I am not too worried.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/02/2021 14:07

Set for another 500k + jabs today.

Pomegranatespompom · 26/02/2021 14:10

I think I’ll take a look at the gardening section @Level75 assume that’s also a positive place !
