I don't want to go to work and potentially come into contact with 30+ people!

I don't want to go into work and put myself and family at risk. I'm expected to come into contact with at least 30 people a day- different people each day at that. I've done it 5 days a week for the last year whilst my children have continued to go to school and be given worksheets they often find too easy/hard because no differentiation, supervised by a TA.

I work in a supermarket. Part of my job is stacking shelves whilst every man and his family of four have come to my supermarket for a jolly and lean over me to pick up their packet of digestives. Most of them wear masks but a lot have their noses hanging out.

I don't have a union - can I join NEU please?

(And before someone says I'm teacher bashing- I'm not. I'm a teacher in my 30's who would very much like my mostly female in their late 40s/early 50's colleagues who hate their jobs to stop---- scaremongering.)

Let's get back to school!

I'm confused

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 22/02/2021 07:30

OP it's going to get to the point where life will have to go on , and you may have to choose another career or workplace . A lot of people have had total upheaval in their lives and having to do things they dont like.

Barbie222 · 22/02/2021 07:30

Poor effort

MildredPuppy · 22/02/2021 07:30

Im totally confused where you work. But there are unions for supermarket workers so do join one if you feel like you need union support.

Snowite · 22/02/2021 07:31

Are you a teacher, supermarket worker or both?

Barbie222 · 22/02/2021 07:33

This sounds like a good reality where it's the men doing the weekly shop, though.

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2021 07:34

As a supermarket worker wouldn’t you come into contact with way more than 30 people a day?

I am a bit confused too.

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 07:34

...... huh?

BrutusMcDogface · 22/02/2021 07:34

Eh?

Oysterbabe · 22/02/2021 07:38

Have you been on the sherry?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/02/2021 07:40

I think the OP is a teacher, wanting other teachers to stop complaining about going back to school because supermarket workers are also having to go to work in a high risk environment?

skeggycaggy · 22/02/2021 07:40

You can join USDAW

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/02/2021 07:41

Well that's my interpretation anyway! Grin

Yes that's how I read it too.

Yep!

@Oysterbabe

Have you been on the sherry?
That's what I was thinking 🤔

Yes, I absolutely would!

I'm a teacher. Comparing our risk to that of a supermarket worker and the fuss teachers have made compared to the fuss supermarket workers have made.

I don't think the Op gets to decide who can complain/worry - scroll on by if they irritate you.

I am neither a teacher or a supermarket worker.

sashagabadon · 22/02/2021 07:44

My daughter is a supermarket worker and can concur with the lack of social distancing particularly when she is doing the reducing at 5pm. Although her young colleagues sometimes film it then put it on tiktok HmmConfused

sarahC40 · 22/02/2021 07:45

Oh get stuffed, op.

DinosaurDiana · 22/02/2021 07:46

I am a Covid vaccination nurse.
I personally come into very close contact with 50+ people per shift.
Some of them only wear a face shield, some have their mask under their noses.
I’m not worried. I think you need to consider if you are over anxious, and maybe have a chat with your manager about how you can do your job yet feel safe.

Judging by the lack of grammar in the post, I doubt very much the OP is a teacher.
WhatTheActualFreshHell · 22/02/2021 07:47

Well, that wasn't very eloquent was it? 😂

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 07:48

@sarahC40

Oh get stuffed, op.
My sentiments exactly.

Anyone putting themselves at risk for their job has a right to be concerned. You have no absolute right to deem their concerns invalid.
