Anyone just not bother going out now

Happycat1212 · 13/02/2021 17:26

Does anyone else just not bothering going anywhere at all now?? I’m exempt from wearing face masks but to avoid abuse I just stay home now, my mum keeps trying to get me to go to hers (I can she’s in my bubble) but I don’t drive so would need a bus but I don’t want to get on them for fear of being abused. Anyone else worry about this type of thing?

My partner is exempt but he still wears a mask. He certainly wouldn’t get on a bus without one, it isn’t fair on everyone else.

StealthPolarBear · 13/02/2021 19:55

Ca your mum come to you?

Cornettoninja · 13/02/2021 19:57

Would you consider using a bike? I’m just trying to think of a way for you to be mobile and avoid any confrontation if that would get you out.

Chunkymenrock · 13/02/2021 20:06

I don't go out at all. I can wear a mask, but I don't want to be near anybody at the moment. Weekly supermarket delivery is a lifesaver. I'm so fed up with how people behave, I just cannot cope. Walking right up to you, then apologising and jumping back. FFS. How many months do you need to remember the rules? So I stay at home away from it all.

LadyCatStark · 13/02/2021 20:13

Of going out at all ever will be really damaging to your mental health. Can you not practise wearing one for short periods to build up your tolerance?

Msmcc1212 · 13/02/2021 20:14

Sad sorry this is happening OP. Really hard to feel like you can’t use public transport. Horrible that you experienced that. I so wish that people would pull together a bit more and try and understand each other. Hopefully with the vaccine and summer things will look different soon. FlowersCakeBrew

PracticingPerson · 13/02/2021 20:15

I think a lot of people do feel the same as you, sadly.

I'm sorry you have ended up feeling this way, it has been a really bad time for anyone in your situation.

33goingon64 · 13/02/2021 20:17

To answer your question, I don't go out anywhere except to walk or run once a day. That's what we've been told to do.

Msmcc1212 · 13/02/2021 20:17

Chunkymenrock

I think it’s quite hard to keep 100% mindful of SD all the time. Especially if you don’t go out much. If someone jumps back and apologises it’s not a lack of awareness or a lack of care - it’s more likely a moment’s lapse of concentration.

ComDummings · 13/02/2021 20:20

Is it masks specifically or could you wear a scarf up high around your neck and near your face on the bus? Not totally tight or covering up your nose and mouth much?

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 13/02/2021 21:51

I don't go anywhere because everywhere is cold, muddy and really REALLY boring.

Caveat, I'm a teacher so I've had to go to school a bit. That was boring and cold too.

Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 22:10

What I’m not hearing from you op Is an understanding of why people would be concerned About you being on public transport without a mask. You are unwilling to discuss it. No one likes masks, it’s uncomfortable for all of us. But we do it for others.

If you’re medically exempt, I can see why you’re uncomfortable if you face abuse. I can also see why Folks don’t want you present, At this time, due to the risk you pose, plus as saId, no one likes masks, we do it because we have to, not because we want to, we all feel uncomfortable when we do.

Happycat1212 · 13/02/2021 22:25

I’m medically exempt from wearing face mask, it’s nothing to doing with feeling uncomfortable wearing one. I have a medical exemption unless you are one of those people that believe everyone can wear one? I’m saying I received abuse in the past on the bus for not wearing one, I’ve also seen videos online of people being abused for not wearing them, and there’s a lot of people on here anyway that think anyone who can’t wear one should stay home then, all this has caused me to now be too scared to go anywhere in case people “confront” me

You can tell people you are exempt but they don’t care as like it’s been proven on here they think everyone is just a piss taker

I get that, but surely you understand why people would be concerned to be near you? As said you’re in a very difficult situation here. When people lives are a risk, and mask wearing reduces that risk, I’m sure you understand why you pose a risk to the public?

I’m sure it’s Accidental. But you’ve not really addressed the risk to others and how they feel?

Happycat1212 · 13/02/2021 22:34

I can see why others feel that way? I’m not saying they shouldn’t feel that way?? What are you getting at? I’ve been staying at home to avoid confrontation Confused

OP posts:
Happycat1212 · 13/02/2021 22:37

If I didn’t care what people think I would just be getting on buses and going to the shops and thinking to hell with what others think but I’m not doing that so not sure what you are getting at with your comments?

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 22:39

Ok well If you understand why folks feel uncomfortable with uou on
Public transport, what is your question? If others don’t wear masks are they worried about going out? As most of us do it, even though we hate it, I’m not sure how many folks you will find to answer.

Northernsoullover · 13/02/2021 22:39

My dad has COPD. He wears a mask because as he says he doesn't want to be at any more risk than he already is. He only goes to the GPs though. So, if you cannot wear a face covering its probably wise not to go on a bus journey. You are at more risk (I know they aren't 100%) you are also more risk to others.

Happycat1212 · 13/02/2021 22:41

Yes I was wondering if anyone else who is exempt just stays home now, my mum is exempt also due to medical conditions but she’s out everywhere all the time so doesn’t get it.

I think you understand why people don’t like it. You also understand we all wear them although most of us dislike it intently. We perceive it as a necessary evil. You cannot due to your health conditions, but that’s going to cause you issues, you either accept that like your mum, or stay home.
fizzyp0p · 13/02/2021 22:48

Can you go on a train not the bus? I'm on the trains daily hardly anyone has a mask on or if they do it's under their chin no one says anything to each other. Might be an option

Happycat1212 · 13/02/2021 22:49

fizzyp0p

Oh really yes that might be an option, I thought trains would be worse for some reason

RoseAndRose · 13/02/2021 22:52

@Whitecup4

For people who can’t wear masks why do you not use face shields?? Surly that is the very obvious answer??
Because face shield offer zero protection (other than for splatter straight in to the eyes). I'm slightly concerned that nearly a year in to this, people still haven't grasped the basics - like how easily exhalations go round the edges of masks.

OP: I think in your circs, it would be better to get your DMuj to come to you
