Group 6 - unpaid carer - Have you been offered the vaccine yet?

DumplingsAndStew · 13/02/2021 17:22

I've seen some areas are starting to offer to group 6 already.

Is anyone here eligible in this group as an unpaid carer and been offered it yet?

If so, would you mind saying which NHS Trust you come under?

Thanks.

#Spikeyball, yes this is new. I know because I had to send the old version to my gp!
I would imagine they worked out how large the ‘unpaid Carer’ group was and found a way to narrow it down. Sad because it pushed out lots of people...and also I think takes out the aims of the group being added in the first place, which was to protect the Carers role, rather than to guard against the person the cared for catching Covid.
M only hope is my crappy GP surgery might still call me as I’m flagged up as carer on their database.

Comefromaway · 14/02/2021 11:33

Fair enough.

I’ve told dh he should inform our drs. They are aware unofficially in that he sought help(counselling) for mental health issues and his caring responsibilities contributed to his state of mind. We are getting multiple phone calls at all hours of the day and night. But nothing is officially recorded.

It just shows how much the system relies on unpaid carers.

Adult social care were not interested when fil was hospitalised and mil was left alone. Dh, dd & his sister had to take turns sleeping on the sofa and trying to manage her behaviour through that time.

@huggzy

My son receives DLA but I don't get carers allowance- so until I read about this on Facebook today I'd assumed I wouldn't be entitled to a vaccine. I'll be contacting my GP on Monday to make sure I'm registered as a carer on their system.
Check their website most have a form you fill in online rather than calling them. Ours is under the admin menu of the website.
Comefromaway · 14/02/2021 11:39

Thank you so much for that info. I’ve just found the form and regardless of Covid or not I think dh should be registered as it has impacted him a lot and the dr should be aware.

Spikeyball · 14/02/2021 11:45

Yes I thought the green book entry had changed. Adult carers are now in the group 6 table rather than being a footnote. I wonder if it means everyone who receives CA and then anyone else who fits the other criteria. Ds is another one who requires 2:1 so only one of us vaccinated would put him at risk. Added to which ds is on the CEV GP list so is at risk from either of us giving him covid.

dementedma · 14/02/2021 11:50

I've registered with our local council and been given a carer's card to carry, but didnt know I had to let GP know. Will do that now

carcarbinks · 20/02/2021 08:34

I went to the doctors yesterday for something else and the nurse said they’re still doing group 5.

Watchingbehindmyhands · 20/02/2021 09:41

Yes, had it yesterday. Was able to book it myself, didn’t wait for anything from the GP. Lancashire.

Watchingbehindmyhands · 20/02/2021 09:46

The criteria in my area was ‘carer’, regardless of whether or not you receive CA and a specific sentence in the blurb that said caring didn’t need to be your main job and you could also be working. It did, however, list the benefits that you should be in receipt of and said they would require evidence. Off the top of my head, this was CA, DLA, PIP and AA. I was asked under which criteria I had booked myself in but evidence wasn’t asked for (so that anxious half hour whilst I looked for the DLA letter was wasted!).

callmeadoctor · 20/02/2021 10:21

I booked through the NHS online form, ticked the box for frontline carer, it let me book so I went along with carers allowance form in case. Nobody asked for any ID whatsoever. As far as Im concerned Im the main carer and should have it now. (Had it 2 days ago now)

callmeadoctor · 20/02/2021 10:23

No queues in vaccine hub, all very smooth.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 20/02/2021 10:50

South Warwickshire, just had my jab today. I booked it yesterday via 119. They said that cif you receive carers allowance classes as a paid frontline carer.

Stickytreacle · 20/02/2021 11:02

I don't think that is correct, the government blurb clearly states that those in receipt of CA are classed as unpaid, otherwise we'd all have been done in group 2. Still on group 5 here.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 20/02/2021 11:08

The call handler checked with a supervisor and booked me straight in. I'm only passing on what I was told.

FredaFox · 20/02/2021 11:45

I’m registered as a carer for my mums so get invited to get a flu jab every year, they text me to say come in.
Not heard anything yet re vaccine but assume I will be classed as a carer for it. My issue is I’m staying with my mum for lockdown and I live an hour away so hoping I’ve not missed a letter. Did try and call yesterday but couldn’t get through so will try again Monday

callmeadoctor · 20/02/2021 12:07

Unpaid carer or not, as far as Im concerned we should be vaccinated. Maybe the hub organisers are turning a blind eye (shrugs shoulders)

TabbyStar · 20/02/2021 13:56

I had to fill in an extra form yesterday confirming either I receive CA or that I'm the main or sole carer for an older or disabled person (who else would you be caring for? I guess maybe your own non-disabled child, but seems a bit strange) as well as the info I'd given before about who I was caring for. So not heard about the vaccine yet.

GoldenGumballs · 20/02/2021 14:45

Unpaid Carers are def in group 6, don’t have to be I receipt of CA. Contact your local Carers support or Carers Uk who will help you to be recognised as a Carer for your GPs

GoldenGumballs · 20/02/2021 14:45

In receipt

GoldenGumballs · 20/02/2021 14:48

A carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. .

dividedwefall · 20/02/2021 14:53

I am classed as an unpaid carer but i have not been offered the vaccine.

Florelei · 20/02/2021 15:00

My doctors are actively preventing people already registered as carers with them from having the vaccine as part of group 6.

Do you have a link for this please ?
Grenola · 20/02/2021 15:22

I've had my letter saying to expect a call. Birmingham
It was an email that got stuck in my spam folder
