Group 6 - unpaid carer - Have you been offered the vaccine yet?

DumplingsAndStew · 13/02/2021 17:22

I've seen some areas are starting to offer to group 6 already.

Is anyone here eligible in this group as an unpaid carer and been offered it yet?

If so, would you mind saying which NHS Trust you come under?

Thanks.

My son receives DLA but I don't get carers allowance- so until I read about this on Facebook today I'd assumed I wouldn't be entitled to a vaccine. I'll be contacting my GP on Monday to make sure I'm registered as a carer on their system.

DumplingsAndStew · 13/02/2021 20:14

Great to hear some people have already been invited for theirs, and even better that posting this has made others aware that they will be eligible under group 6.

I get a text message from the drs every year for the flu jab. A few years ago the nurse asked why I was getting it and I said carer she put it in on the computer.
Do you think I will be contacted or should I email them. My mum has just got her appointment for next Wednesday and she's 66 so don't know if they at group 6 yet or not.

Thanks
Sal

I haven't heard anything yet. I'm definitely registered as a carer with my GP.

They're still recommending people don't contact Dr's to enquire about vaccines as they are very busy. I would wait a couple of weeks until more carers are being invited, then maybe email them to ask if you've not heard anything by then.

No but I don't think they are on to group 6 here yet. I get carers allowance but ds needs 2:1 care so we should both get it. We filled in the GP online form a few weeks ago.

Flossie44 · 14/02/2021 00:27

My dc has 2:1 care. Dh and I both got it yesterday

Likeindie · 14/02/2021 00:38

The pharmacist at boots told me to register as a carer back when I had my flu jab months ago, anyway I tried to register with my GP because I am carer for my son. He gets higher rate DLA I get CA.
The receptionist didn’t seem to have a clue what I was talking about. Wanted to know where I had heard such information.
I’m in wales.

alexdgr8 · 14/02/2021 00:41

comefromaway,
your husband should inform his own GP that he is a carer, so it can be coded on his records.
it needs to be noted both on the records of the person who is cared for, as a contact person, but also on the carer's records, to get flu jab, and may be relevant to their own health.
there used to be posters in surgeries to tell them if you are a carer.
re carer's allowance, the person cared for has to be in receipt of a qualifying disability benefit, and the carer earn less than about £115 a week. if of state pensionable age carer's allowance will not be paid, but should tell DWP anyway.

alexdgr8 · 14/02/2021 00:44

Likeindie,
pay peanuts, get monkeys.
go to the organ-grinder, OP.
sent them an email, or drop a note in.

Sleepyblueocean · 14/02/2021 07:06

"My dc has 2:1 care. Dh and I both got it yesterday"

That's good. I am worried that will have a battle on our hands getting both of us vaccinated. Ds has 2:1 or 3:1 care in every setting he goes to but the vaccination list says main carer not carers.

Morph2lcfc · 14/02/2021 07:50

I had vaccine last Wednesday. I emailed the gp week before to ask to be registered as a carer as I have an autistic child. They didn’t ask for any proof although my child is a patient at same surgery so they could have checked his records to make sure I wasn’t lying. We get dla but not carers allowsnce as a work but wasn’t asked about either anyway.

Morph2lcfc · 14/02/2021 07:53

I would add that my area seem to be going quite quickly through the groups. My dads area which is only 3 miles down the road but different gp was still doing the over 70s last week

Chasingsquirrels · 14/02/2021 07:55

Our local covid volunteer group posted on our village FB page...

Could anyone who fits into the following categories please get in touch. There is an offer for vaccinations through the Swaffham Prior Volunteer Group for those which are:

  • homecare workers
  • working to support the homeless population in centres or temporary accommodation
  • involved in the direct supply of food and other goods *supporting older people and those with long term health issues
  • supporting vulnerable children and young people
  • volunteer drivers involved in transporting people to vaccine appointments Now that District Council are rolling out the next wave of vaccinations to NHS and Support Staff, I can provide all information for booking your vaccine.

I messaged 2 friends who are caring for both an elderly & an CEV relative and both had their 1st jab in the week.

DinosaurDiana · 14/02/2021 07:58

My DH has registered with his GP that he is an unpaid carer for his mother who cannot leave home. She had a home visit for her jab.
She has carers in twice a day, arranged by the SW due to her not coping.
He has no option than to go in that house where the carers visit. He/we are at risk from them, and they are at risk from him.
It’s absolutely crazy that they are not higher on the list.

TabbyStar · 14/02/2021 07:59

No. Though I only registered as a carer with GP a week or so ago.

DinosaurDiana · 14/02/2021 08:00

I was told by a GP admin that if you register as carer with your GP you get the annual flu jab and an annual health check.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 08:03

No but I dont think our area is onto group 6.

Sevensilverrings · 14/02/2021 10:58

They announced in media today that 65+ and underlying health conditions being send booking letters now. That’s group 5 and 6 isn’t it? But no mention of whether unpaid carers will be contacted in this part of the roll out or not.
I assumed all group six at same time (allowing for local differences etc), but they are maybe splitting it differently?
Clinically vulnerable are being contacted and booked through GP, not through main booking site for now....does anyone know how they are organising carer jabs? (My GP surgery were v reluctant to even acknowledge Carers were on the list, so I’m worried about relying on them getting in touch).

Sadless · 14/02/2021 11:03

I will wait till Friday then email the drs don't want to ring they can be quite nasty on the phone at my drs.
They are doing the vaccinations at a bigger drs surgery near me but my mum is being sent to a football stadium in Horwich lucky so has a car really.
Sal

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 11:19

Ooh did they ?! Fantastic. There's a website to self book once you're a group isnt there? If anyone knows it I'll see if I can book.

Spikeyball · 14/02/2021 11:19

The green book is saying adult carers who receive carers allowance or who are the primary/sole carer of someone who is clinically vulnerable to covid 19 including children with severe neuro disabilities. I don't remember it being that specific before.

Comefromaway · 14/02/2021 11:20

Look, I don’t want to try and push in the queue but I’m wondering about our situation.

Dh is registered at his mums dr as carer to his mum with dementia. He has joint POA with his dad & step-sister. We, as a family have bubbled with his dad on the care for a person with disability basis.

His step-sister drops shopping off but his dad won’t let her in and wears a mask. His dad brings his mum up to visit for respite for him. Because I’m out at work most of the time what usually happens is that dh and his dad go for a walk whilst dd aged 19 sits with mil and looks after her. Because dh can’t drive dd will often be the one that drives them to places. Sometimes dd will go and visit their house and sit with mil or take her out (they went to kfc drive through) just to give fil a break.

This morning we’ve received a phone call that mil is on a bad way (aggressive, confused, distressed) and fil needs help with her.

Dd has driven dh up there. To my mind she’s more of an unpaid carer to mil than dh’s sister and should she be registered as such? Or is that stretching things too far.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 11:26

Id just check its down at your gp that hes a carer.

Ive tried nhs booking site but its currently set to 65+ and ecv.

Spikeyball · 14/02/2021 11:28

I think it is unlikely that multiple carers will be vaccinated unless the person needs multiple carers as in needing more than one at the same time.
