Why would my DH have been called for a covid jab?

Just curious really! Nothing more

He is under 50. He has no health conditions and indeed hasn't visited the doctor for maybe 5 years or more. He's not on any medication.

He isn't a carer and the GP wouldn't know his job anyway.

No one else in the family has been called so we were just puzzled really.

My fiance also received a letter that he's got priority in vaccination queue. 33 yo, healthy. He worked with people who had covid, but how would NHS know this? No chance. He had pneumonia last year, might this be a possible reason? We are quite confused why is that...

AKissAndASmile · 12/02/2021 21:38

I think in both cases it will be down to incorrect coding on the computer. They're probably down as health or social care workers.

Hmmm, maybe. He's going to call our GP surgery to sort it out. This definitely isn't right.
Hazelmazel · 12/02/2021 21:47

Mine has too, although it seems a lot of under 60s have been called here (Somerset). He's booked an appointment, didn't want to go down as refusing one.

Torvean · 12/02/2021 23:58

He should call to check. Could easily be a computer error which means somebody else might miss out.

Timeforredwine · 13/02/2021 00:06

I know of people who have been called for their first injection and found out it was due to a condition they had years ago but as it is on record it is flagged as " at risk category" apparently these are graded high medium low. You dont have to still be suffering with the condition or taking medication.

Timeforredwine · 13/02/2021 00:07

Plus until you are called you may not know you were ever in this category.

Mindymomo · 13/02/2021 07:40

I think having had pneumonia may have flagged up needing a vaccine, but don’t know how the op’s husband has been offered, but I would take it as it might just be that where you live they’ve completed the higher groups or don’t have too many.

Oblomov21 · 13/02/2021 08:22

Presumably they think he has a condition, so is in group 6.
Take it anyway? Or ring GP?

Here in Surrey we are doing group 7, the 60's and will be moving onto group 8, the 55's soon.

What computer system would this be? The NHS does record your job, unless you work for them.

The current call is for over 65 and at risk.

Probably got the wrong code in his gp record or the wrong mobile number.

whatswithtodaytoday · 13/02/2021 08:34

Are they definitely not scams? I've had a couple of scam emails asking me to book my vaccination.

PoppyLovesCakes · 13/02/2021 08:58

Definitely not a scam and he has no childhood illnesses either

Interestingly, I've just seen on my local fb page that others in the town have been called for it - seemingly randomly and they're confused too.

He's booked it anyway as obviously doesn't want to go down as having refused it or anything

Maybe it is incorrect coding? Seems unlikely. I wondered if they'd caught up with jabbing all those they needed to - we are a very small town - and we're now just working through everyone else but doesn't work like they does it?

RosieLemonade · 13/02/2021 09:37

Maybe they have worked through all tne top groups. They are flying through them in my area!

Mrsjayy · 13/02/2021 09:43

It sounds like your town has been worked through if others have had word to make an appointment maybe you will be next ?

TheFlis12345 · 13/02/2021 09:44

I have been called for a vaccine, no idea why. 40, no health conditions. I called and told them I thought it was an error, they insisted it wasn’t and asked me to book so I am getting vaccinated tomorrow.

Katie1784 · 13/02/2021 09:45

I know a few people in their early fifties and younger who have been called. Usually they've had some contact with the GP about something else (even just a routine appointment or a repeat prescription) and then it's come up. They seem to be steaming ahead in my area.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 13/02/2021 09:45

My husband got a text last night inviting him to get his jab. He's 56. He does have a heart condition and angina but isn't vulnerable at all. He's an engineer so it's not related to his work either. Can only be because the heart thing flagged up I guess. We're in Lancashire, wonder if it's different by area.

Lemonsyellow · 13/02/2021 09:47

I know several in their late-50s getting it today- inner London.

Itsnotlikethiswithotherpeople · 13/02/2021 09:48

Here they are moving on to much ‘lesser’ conditions because they have vaccinated (or offered) vaccinations to everyone else or people doing social care roles on a voluntary basis.
I’m getting vaccinated due to a high risk voluntary role. I checked and they said I wasn’t taking it from someone else, they have clinics waiting to vaccinate people but due to government rules can only vaccinate people for a reason if they are under 65.
I have a health condition which puts me at higher risk but doesn’t count for ECV so would have to wait another 6months or more, had COVID and was hospitalised early on in April. So am very thankful for it for both me and also the vulnerable people we help.

PoppyLovesCakes · 13/02/2021 09:49

I'm now thinking it's because in our area they're flying through the people so just getting towards those with no conditions

OP posts:
Timeforredwine · 13/02/2021 09:51

It is because something in your medical records even from 30 years ago will flag up and it puts you in an at risk group even if you no longer have this condition.

GooseMooseBurger · 13/02/2021 09:54

I've been getting letters since last March telling me to shield because I'm CEV. I'm defIinitely not CEV. I think there are some inaccuracies on my medical record.

insancerre · 13/02/2021 09:54

@LucilleTheVampireBat
Lancashire too and my Dh got a text . He is 56 and has a mild heart condition too
He has his jab next week in Lytham
I had mine yesterday at Blackpool Victoria hospital through work
Seems Lancashire is flying through the vaccinations

BeastOfBODMAS · 13/02/2021 09:58

I have been offered it for BMI, based on my weight when I filled in the questionnaire signing up to the GPs. I’ve told them more recently that I’ve lost weight so no longer high risk but they’ve not updated records.

fellrunner85 · 13/02/2021 10:02

It could be that your area is moving through the cohorts faster than others.

In some areas where takeup of the vaccine has been low, all those in higher priority groups who want it have already been vaccinated - hence they're calling people in lower priority groups faster.
This is particularly the case in more diverse areas, as takeup of the vaccine has been lower in BAME communities.
