Why would my DH have been called for a covid jab?

Just curious really! Nothing more

He is under 50. He has no health conditions and indeed hasn't visited the doctor for maybe 5 years or more. He's not on any medication.

He isn't a carer and the GP wouldn't know his job anyway.

No one else in the family has been called so we were just puzzled really.

It's probably more efficient to search medical records for particular medical conditions and then vaccinate rather than searching and asking a clinician to review each of the cases that pop up.

[quote Motorina]@PrincessNutNuts if they're over 65 they can book online themselves.

Thank you @Motorina. They tried on Friday but just kept getting a "something went wrong" message They'll keep trying.

My DH had his vaccination yesterday. (Currently snoring beside me and keeping me awake.)

He is 52 and fit and healthy. We couldn't work out why he'd been called to go and get it. He asked the person doing the vaccine as he rolled his sleeve up and it was the fact he was once at risk of a pulmonary embolism and took Warfarin after a bad car crash 22 years ago!

Been sent it in error.

Exactly this. I'm working on the vaccine rollout and the logistics involved are huge, and complex. When you consider how stretched GPs and their staff are anyway; they don't have time to go through every patients' individual medical record before inviting them for the vaccine.
Then on top of that, you have the added complexity of the national NHS inviting patients for vaccinations at the big regional centres. These two systems don't speak to each other, so some people will be invited twice. Again; everyone knows that this is an issue and may cause some confusion, but it's still more efficient than cross-checking every patient.
The other complicating factor is vaccine wastage. Clinicians, understandably, don't want to waste any vaccine, and if they have, say, 500 Pfizer jabs to get through in a week - and only 450 over 65s take up the invitation - they'll need to invite 50 extra people to stop the vaccine going in the bin.

My husband has just been invited too.

Mid 40s, no medical conditions. The only thing I can think of is that he is on a lot of medication for MH. However, that does not make him vulnerable to covid.

I wondered if it was a scam but the link sent him to our surgery's booking system.

Depends on the medication if it is one that flags on a list like some medical conditions it could be anyone who has ever had that medication or condition will be called. You may not have been in a high risk or vulnerable list throughout covid still but because it flags up you are placed as high risk and called for vaccination earlier.

DM got hers recently. Called by GP and asked if she could come in the next morning. Makes me think it's down to excess supply, especially as most of the surgery's patients are of Asian ethnicity.
