Why would my DH have been called for a covid jab?

Just curious really! Nothing more

He is under 50. He has no health conditions and indeed hasn't visited the doctor for maybe 5 years or more. He's not on any medication.

He isn't a carer and the GP wouldn't know his job anyway.

No one else in the family has been called so we were just puzzled really.

@insancerre
I work in social care in lancashire in our meetings with Lancs County council they were saying they were ahead. I do know at one point lots of social care staff had refused and they were pushing us hard to encourage more to take it up, so might be why they have got to other groups faster. My parents in their 60s but no underlying conditions have theirs monday.

MindBodyChocolate · 13/02/2021 10:05

If he’s got a high bmi that could be it. I was offered a free flu jab this year as I’m on the system as being over 40 bmi but in November I had weight loss surgery so it is now much lower.

If I am offered an ‘early’ COVID jab I was thinking I’d probably just have it rather than risk missing out. The system seems to be working amazingly well at the minute but not sure if it’d cope with people asking to be moved down category.

DavidsSchitt · 13/02/2021 10:06

I'm in Lancashire with a heart condition and I've not had mine yet Sad

Frazzled2207 · 13/02/2021 10:14

In his shoes I would go along but ask what condition has given him priority. There probably is one. Every single extra person being jabbed is one step further out of this mess. If some people get called “before their time” then lucky them!

Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 10:16

I think in a lot of areas appt slots are going unused. The nhs has said they can extend it past the current groupings if they’ve done their best to reach people. So I’d assume they habe empty slots and they are trying to work their way through everyone and fill them,

sheslittlebutfierce · 13/02/2021 10:31

fairly sure we live in the same area and my DH had the text and booked his yesterday. He has a condition that doesnt feature in the green book list however he does have a high BMI. He is mid 50's

Hadalifeonce · 13/02/2021 10:58

My sister got a call inviting her. No idea why but she had it on Thursday. We both assumed the high groups had been done and they were moving down the list.

Binglebong · 13/02/2021 11:36

Does he volunteer at all? They are really pushing that at the moment. Or is he BAME as I think in some areas they are vaccinating people who would not normally be eligible in the hope they will influence people who are nervous to sign up?

mommybunny · 13/02/2021 11:48

My DH (53) for some reason has been getting free flu jabs for a couple of years now (before they changed last year to offering to all over-50s), and we don’t know why. He has no health conditions we know of and hasn’t been to a doctor in years. The only thing we can think is that the last time he did go to the surgery (when I insisted he go with a chest cold) he might have told them his father is diabetic and maybe they flagged him as “pre-diabetic” and that makes him eligible?

He hasn’t yet received a COVID vaccine invitation. It will be interesting to see if his comes before mine as we are the same age.

EmmanuelleMakro · 13/02/2021 11:54

Several colleagues have had theirs this week no obvious ( to them) reasons except that they are teachers and the LA canvassed schools the previous week to see if there were any teachers who wanted the jab early if the gvt offered it -seems they are going ahead anyway. Interestingly they are all teachers who have volunteered for some days in school with KW children so maybe I have just answeredcmy own question 😀

Silvergreen · 13/02/2021 13:38

Just take it if he wants a vaccine. They'll get through everyone fairly quickly anyway.

PoppyLovesCakes · 13/02/2021 14:07

He has no conditions and none from his childhood. He has a BMI of 22

I've been called for my vaccination, I'm only 43 but I have several health issues. What is the problem here?

Ingridla · 13/02/2021 15:39

@whatswithtodaytoday

Are they definitely not scams? I've had a couple of scam emails asking me to book my vaccination.
How do you know it's a scam?
BikeRunSki · 13/02/2021 15:42

@catscatscatseverywhere

My fiance also received a letter that he's got priority in vaccination queue. 33 yo, healthy. He worked with people who had covid, but how would NHS know this? No chance. He had pneumonia last year, might this be a possible reason? We are quite confused why is that...
Pneumonia could be a reason. I have a colleague who has been vaccinated because he had pneumonia about 15 months ago.
RuthW · 13/02/2021 15:52

Is he overweight or had a condition in childhood?

Just go. Sometimes we don't know why patients are called but we just accept it. You either want it or you don't and if you don't please let go know so we don't waste time chasing you time and time again.

RuthW · 13/02/2021 15:54

@LucilleTheVampireBat

My husband got a text last night inviting him to get his jab. He's 56. He does have a heart condition and angina but isn't vulnerable at all. He's an engineer so it's not related to his work either. Can only be because the heart thing flagged up I guess. We're in Lancashire, wonder if it's different by area.
Heart condition - we are calling those patients in group 6, so now
bookmarket · 13/02/2021 17:08

I feel as time goes on, it will be difficult for each vaccination centre to be aligned with what is going on in another part of the country or even county.

One of our GP surgeries is doing over 50s now. They had the pfizer vaccine very early on. I am guessing now they have got through the top priority groups, they have sent out invitations to the remaining priority groups at once as the best way to fill all slots and avoid vaccine wastage. These last priority groups are working age and might not have as much flexibility over the time/date they can get to the surgery.

Redglitter · 13/02/2021 19:35

Hmmm, maybe. He's going to call our GP surgery to sort it out. This definitely isn't right

Why? If you've been called in, go for it. What's to sort out Confused

Smellybluecheese · 13/02/2021 19:57

My husband has been called for no apparent reason too. He’s in his 40s with no health conditions. I’m a couple of years older than him and do have health conditions and haven’t been called so I’m a bit hacked off to be honest! I’m also a critical worker (education), he isn’t.
My friend’s husband had also been called (totally different area of the country), also in his 40s, also no health conditions, also younger. Something weird is going on.

Smellybluecheese · 13/02/2021 19:58

Neither my husband nor friends husband has ever been overweight either.

Timeforredwine · 13/02/2021 20:03

I posted earlier I know people who are between 16 and 64 that weren't previously aware they were in an "at risk category" and it is due to their medical records being flagged as even as a child/teenager something will show as a previous med condition or prev medicine given for a particular condition and means they are marked as the next group of people to be given the vaccine. It isnt random ages being called for no reason. You might as well go and just ask the reason.

PrincessNutNuts · 13/02/2021 21:06

It's baffling me how many younger people seem to have had the offer for no reason they understand when none of the under 70 but over 65s in our family on either side across 8 counties have heard anything.

We know personally a 50 year old and a 32 year old. And my social media feeds have a generous sprinkling.

Lemonsyellow · 13/02/2021 21:18

All the under-60s I know who have had it are in priority 6 for health reasons that they know about- cancer or heart issues.
