@TeaInTheGarden

Im so pleased you’ve said that. I spent a couple of days feeling thoroughly depressed at the thought of watching the vaccinated go off on holiday. As healthy thirty somethings DH and I are at back of queue for vaccines, which I can absolutely understand when these vaccines are there to save lives and re start the economy. The thought of them creating a 2 tier society was too much for me to cope with and I had a real slump over it (even though it was only an idea in my mind!!) Families like us, and not to mention young people, students etc have sacrificed so much over the pandemic, it would then be horrendous to be left behind in that way. Particularly for children.even if children are exempt, parents of young kids would generally be at back of queue.
I'm no expert and have no idea what they are planning but I think they will be keen to get travel going again for the economy. So much trade depends on it. Plus BA struggles even at the best of times so the UK won't want to lose its flagship carrier or the jobs associated with travel and hospitality. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

@BigWoollyJumpers you and your agenda of positivity Grin

The stats threads has taken a dark turn over the last couple of threads

Its another that I used to read every day because even if there was no good news it was still a discussion driven by fact. These days its less so.

It's more speculation and guesswork really but for those of us who live abroad, have family abroad or are just desparate for a holiday this year it is wonderful positivity!

Thanks so much for this. My whole family lives abroad. I will not go until I am vaccinated though. hoping it is by July at the latest.

Agree. And there are one or two posters who in particular drag it down. Every vaguely positive post of caveats by ‘...but, misery!’

I agree. It's just another thread with people offering anecdotes and opinions. It used to be strictly based on actual statistics, but not anymore. Doesn't help that it was started by one of MN's most stalwart doommongers.

This isn't good news, but having just read a ridiculous news story about the E484K mutation in the Kent strain ( written by someone who failed GCSE Science) I thought it was clear and helpful theconversation.com/concerning-coronavirus-mutation-now-found-in-uk-variant-heres-what-you-need-to-know-153248

Iamclearlyamug · 09/02/2021 11:22

@starfish88 thanks so much for posting that. I’ve been separated from my fiancé since September and I feel so much more positive now. I’m currently self isolating at home due to testing positive for covid and I’m hoping that proof I’ve had the virus might be enough, given I’ll be wayyyy down the list for a vaccine (32, no health issues and not in an at risk job)

BigWoollyJumpers · 09/02/2021 11:32

Anyone up for some doom and gloom? I'm off to a funeral this afternoon. It's -1, probably about -7 windchill, it a burial in a graveyard, never been to a burial before, and half the people now aren't coming because snowed in......... on the up side, it will be brief!

Frazzled2207 · 09/02/2021 11:38

Some good news from Christina pagel on Twitter about the dodgy SA strain. Worth reading the full thread.

No science or statistics to add, but thank you to those who have. They have resulted in me having a surge of optimism, and booking tickets for a gig at the end of October. Smallish venue (about 250), so I am, fingers crossed, hoping that will be allowed by that point. (Or that my name comes out of the hat if they have to limit to smaller numbers!)

louisejxxx · 09/02/2021 11:39

@BigWoollyJumpers how very dare you with your positivity!

What is the world (and it seems, specifically mumsnet!) coming to 🙄

I get if someone doesn’t feel positive (heck - we are evidence on this thread; most of us say now and then “I’m having a wobble”) - but why insist on trying to make others feel bad just because they do feel positive.

That sounds lovely. The arts/music scene contribute so much to our life culturally speaking but also economically too. It's absolutely right we start supporting the whole industry as it opens up. I know I feel much more like doing as much of these kinds of things as I can in the future. I'd like to think there will be all sorts of weekends of hopping over to Europe too just to soak up some culture as much as I can. I don't want to take life for granted in any way.
LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 12:24

I'm glad to have found the (not so) new positive thread.

thatgingergirl · 09/02/2021 12:31

Lipsalot - yes, I've resolved no more umming and ahhhing about these things in the future! Get on and do them.

TeaInTheGarden · 09/02/2021 12:34

What area are you in @poppystars?

I keep checking for my parents (67) but no sign yet. We're in Nottinghamshire though and I think we're one of the slowest areas.

Does anyone know will the government announce when group 5 can be started or will it just trickle through? I wondered as they weren't part of the initial top4 groups that had to be done by Feb 15th whether it would be an national thing again or just allow each area to handle at their own pace?

Pomegranatespompom · 09/02/2021 13:15

I’ve not news other than to say I will be a very enthusiastic member of the roaring 20s group plus I saw a well placed Tracey on fb post - glad she’s bringing so much to this board 😂

Do you know what the vertical axis is? Numbers or percentages? Looks pretty compelling. Would be interesting to know the time interval for the 'After 1 dose' group so we could make inferences about our extended dosing interval regimen.
