NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

@chri55ie you beat me to it!

chri55ie · 08/02/2021 20:27

Ha! It’s really reassured me.,...thanks for linking I was just trying to figure out how to do that.

2020CanDoOne · 08/02/2021 20:28

Someone needs to make a feed purely of hot men getting vaccines.

Thank you @littleowl1 you have helped me so much with your data - take care of yourself as well as your dd xx

chri55ie · 08/02/2021 20:28

I love her/him! Would love to understand why this hasn’t been highlighted by Oxford/AZN? Just goes to show these journalists are really not qualified to review this stuff.,,,,

@Frazzled2207

JVT was very good - the key takeaway was that they don’t expect the sa variant to become dominant here, perhaps because our very own mutant variant has become so dominant

I also thought MH was in a hopeful mood. He’s quite good at putting a massive downer on things sometime.

I read a article today that said exactly this - our U.K. “mutant” is actually “saving” us from the South African version because it is way more efficient at spreading etc. So is more dominant and winning out over the other versions. Given the AZ is effective against the Uk version, it does give us some breathing space to tackle our mutant and then go over the SA one in the Autumn.

Sort of good news I guess!!

tootyfruitypickle · 08/02/2021 20:31

JVT is trending on Twitter for his calm reassurance !!

Crazycatlady83 · 08/02/2021 20:39

Does anyone wonder if this is a marked change of tact / message now - try to install some confidence after a year of psychologically bashing us? Or am I wishful thinking that we might soon see the end of all the doom mongering?

Yes and hot soldiers or medics giving vaccinations Grin

Oh yes, that sounds good Wink Just to increase vaccine uptake, of course
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 20:43

I think it is more they are feeling more confident themselves

You can see that with Hancock anyway. He looked like a scared school boy out of his depth for quite a while there. Boris seems way more confident too. Before you could tell it was just words.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 20:45

The soldiers worked for the 70s ladies near me. The posts on local Facebook about hunky young men jabbing them. Seriously old ladies are outrageous 😂

TheChineseChicken · 08/02/2021 20:51

Ha!

TeaInTheGarden · 08/02/2021 20:54

@chri55ie yes I wonder why they’ve not come out and said this yet. Maybe too tedious to them. It shouldn’t have been deleted like it was. The study wasn’t designed to test for efficacy against severe disease in the first place. And it was the 4 week interval instead of 12 which we already know reduces efficacy. It’s all very annoying, and it needs to be stopped!

I love JVT too and I hope his subtle dressing down if the media works!

Wherediditgo · 08/02/2021 21:23

It’s like shouting in to a void out there Sad

So many people going on about how the vaccines are useless, they don’t stop transmission, this will be life forever etc etc
Thing is - I know they’re full of crap and don’t listen to it but they’re literally posting on a thread about people’s mental health being at an all time low and having suicidal thoughts!! I mean, how do you combat that level of negativity and lack of empathy??

Lipsalot · 08/02/2021 21:47

I had posted on here about taking my dad for his jab as I was wondering whether I might be lucky enough to get a spare one on the day. I just wanted to update people that I took him along and unfortunately you were literally only allowed indoors if you had a booking number. That's more than fair enough, though. Apparently the hub was pretty empty once he was in (it's one in a small city) and it was snowing so I'd have thought there would have been no-shows so of course I felt a bit disappointed. I have my own medical reasons why in an ideal world, I'd have the vaccine asap but I'm still waiting to talk properly to my GP about that as I haven't seen him for years. But I did fully understand.

Dad had the Oxford jab and has a mild headache and is fatigued today but considering how some unlucky people feel after it, he's got off lightly, I think. It's just lovely he's been done. He was extremely impressed by how it was all being run.

It's honestly driving me MAD. It's so dangerous for vulnerable people to see stuff like that day after day. It does do harm. And such bullshit gets posted. There was someone yesterday going on and on about how one jab counted for absolutely nothing and didn't protect you at all and did absolutely nothing to prevent transmission (I think Chris Whitty would appreciate being updated about that!) and another person saying every single year from now on and forever we'd be in lockdown from October to April. It's just so infuriating - there is no way that is a realistic possibility.

Thank goodness for this thread because it really helps.

tobee · 08/02/2021 22:04

Yes and they say things like "ha! ha!" and laughing emojis now. Not a welcome change from the "ffs!", "sorry!" and "I'm afraid!" brigade. Absolute bastards spewing such stuff when posters are talking about suicide. Angry

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 22:08

Some sick people out there for sure. No empathy and enjoyment from making people worry.

How can anyone gain joy from spreading crap and doom ☹

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 08/02/2021 22:14

Boris had a call with Merkel earlier. So that is good news. She has a lot of power in the EU and can help calm down tensions between us hopefully. They have behaved like arses but long term we need a peaceful relationship.

JemimaPyjamas · 08/02/2021 22:15

Oh god. I've only skim read parts today but it looks like a lot of us have The Gloom.

Admittedly I've been pretty upbeat all things considering, but today got to me. I think the two main catalysts were DS (8) having a wobble himself and then watching John Campbell. While its not the end of the world and there is lots to be done regarding info on the SA strain, the thing that is keeping me going in many ways is the prospect of going on holiday in the summer (we've been trying to go on this bloody holiday for the past three years, to give it some perspective.)

I am now going to reread the previous posts here and see if I can perk myself up a bit. If nothing else, we can be having a day of gloom together! Solidarity in numbers, and all that!

Wherediditgo · 08/02/2021 22:21

I’ve posted a long post on that mental health thread to hopefully try and make people feel better but it’s getting lost in a sea of bickering!!

JemimaPyjamas · 08/02/2021 22:28

I will have a look for you @Wherediditgo, thank you. I am generally pretty positive, but today it suddenly seems to have hit me. I do think that things will look brighter soon, but I am officially sick to the back teeth of the constant up and downs.

It seems this happening a lot - I’ve had some major wobbles too as have a lot of people I know.

It will get better and I think it will be soon Flowers
