A significant number are now ok with restrictions remaining indefinitely

Firstly, this is NOT making any judgement either way, simply an observation. It seems to me from reactions on here and publically in general that there are a significant and possibly growing number of people who would not be discontent with restrictions at the level they are in place at the moment continuing indefinitely.

OP posts:
SonnetForSpring · 04/02/2021 13:16

Not sure where you gleaned that from.

NiceViper · 04/02/2021 13:18

I think people are resigned to the idea that they need to stay until it is genuinely safe to relax them, and then to move at a prudent rate (step by step , with pauses in between to see what the effect is)

It's nothing to do with whether they are 'content' or not, but where the longer term national interest is. And stop/start restrictions would probably drag on longer and be more disruptive (both personally and to the economy) than establishing vaccine cover (and understanding effects on transmission) and getting right down to low levels now

LindaEllen · 04/02/2021 13:18

Being okay with it, and accepting that it is what it is, are not the same things.

SirSamuelVimes · 04/02/2021 13:19

A significant number of people are fucking nuts though.

frozendaisy · 04/02/2021 13:19

What nonsense!

Spied · 04/02/2021 13:19

Dreading the day we are allowed to mix households tbh.
Keeping my manipulative mil away from my dc has been a blessing in disguise.

Quit4me · 04/02/2021 13:21

Where have you got that from?
Many people on mumsnet talk bollocks because it’s anonymous. Many just like winding people up and pressing button? Probably what you are doing right now to be fair.

MrsFezziwig · 04/02/2021 13:22

I disagree. My entire family/friendship circle is (mainly) following the guidelines/rules but I don’t know anyone who isn’t looking forward to restrictions being eased.

Beaniecats · 04/02/2021 13:23

Its worrying isn't it

southeastdweller · 04/02/2021 13:23

What are you talking about? Where’s your link?

Lovesfood · 04/02/2021 13:24

??

afternooncuppa · 04/02/2021 13:25

No chance. The hysterical germophobic Covid zealots the reaction to this virus has created can go and seal themselves into an airtight box and exist in it until they die if they so wish.

The logical and sane people wish to return to humanity and "living" their lives without existing in a totalitarian environment which is destroying so much.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 04/02/2021 13:25

I'm not one them. Not sure how much more of this I can take.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 04/02/2021 13:25

As they are right now, including retail/hospitality/leisure/face to face schooling etc closed, no I don't think anyone is OK with that lasting indefinitely.

Resigned to some form of social distancing/mask wearing/Perspex screens/periods where household mixing is reduced to manage spikes.. yes I think I am resigned to the fact that this will continue for a while, possibly years.

DareIask · 04/02/2021 13:25

I'm perfectly ok with doing my bit to stop people dying when they don't need to.

HereComesATractor · 04/02/2021 13:26

I think there is a proportion that is ok with restrictions up until they personally are vaccinated.

herecomesthsun · 04/02/2021 13:27

I am on the cautious side, but don't want restrictions indefinitely, just want to follow the science and get out of this without any more disasters if possible.

lightand · 04/02/2021 13:28

Until nice weather comes!

What people say they are doing, and what they actually do, can be two different things.

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 04/02/2021 13:28

Like another poster mentioned, accepting things the way they are for now and being happy with the way things are are completely different things. I think most of us accept it (as we have no choice but to) but I’d argue most of us are not happy.

LadyCounterblast · 04/02/2021 13:28

I think you've spun a whole dystopian future off some very thin material there.

Shitzngiggles · 04/02/2021 13:29

I don't know anyone who would want restrictions to stay, that would be a bit nuts really. I've certainly not seen that mindset on here, if anything I've seen the opposite and plenty of people admitting they flout the rules.
I accept we may have to still have restrictions of some sort in place for a while to come yet. But certainly not content or happy about it.

Crosstrainer · 04/02/2021 13:30

@SirSamuelVimes

A significant number of people are fucking nuts though.
Harsh, but fair.....GrinGrinGrin
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/02/2021 13:30

Well they can hide away and let the rest of us gradually return to normal.

SerendipityJane · 04/02/2021 13:31

It was a question on a YouGov poll that's just gone out ...

RosesAndLemonade · 04/02/2021 13:31

It is what it is isn't it. If there's restrictions what can we do.

I'm not bothered though as I hate being touched, hate hugs (apart from my kids husband and mum) and hate being people too close to me. So I am very happy with the rules. I appreciate I'm in the minority though.
