A significant number are now ok with restrictions remaining indefinitely

Firstly, this is NOT making any judgement either way, simply an observation. It seems to me from reactions on here and publically in general that there are a significant and possibly growing number of people who would not be discontent with restrictions at the level they are in place at the moment continuing indefinitely.

OP posts:

Since they don't have the police numbers to enforce lockdown, they try to control our thinking instead
soft power innit...or 'softly softly catchee monkey' power

WalrusWife · 04/02/2021 17:48

Once furlough ends and 4 million people find themselves unemployed, they’ll change their minds.

Snookie00 · 04/02/2021 18:09

Some of the comments above are indicative of this “doesn’t bother me” so happy for them to continue. Continued enforcement of social distancing means no full concerts, festivals, sports events, pubs, restaurants even churches. Some people on mumsnet must lead very dull lives if not going to any of the above doesn’t bother them.

They sure will

I agree

ASchuylerSister · 04/02/2021 18:17

I have noticed more people saying that they will accept this lockdown lasting longer if it means it’s the last one we have.

whydoifeelsolonely · 04/02/2021 18:18

If it helps OP I did that yougov poll this afternoon , I pressed ‘longer’ for everything because I’m in a shit mood . I expect many others do similar ! I don’t think it’s a very representative sample at all !

BlowDryRat · 04/02/2021 18:33

I don't know anyone in real life who is happy with the restrictions. Everyone I know can't wait to return to living their lives properly.

Dustyboots · 04/02/2021 19:55

Well - just me, I was angry a while ago and now feel like the stuffing’s been kicked out of me. Now I’m just resigned.

I actually feel very little these days, can’t remember what life was like before...

When I’m walking and see people out, when I manage to talk to friends or family on the phone - it seems they’re just the same.

Dustyboots · 04/02/2021 19:58

It feels like I’ve been brain washed and finally given in. This should be scary but feels like nothing.

I think that’s why people are ‘happy’ to carry on living like this OP.

We can’t remember life from before and we’re even perhaps a bit scared to go back to that unknown.I know I am.

Pinkmarsh · 04/02/2021 20:05

I’ve read crap like that in here but thankfully know absolutely no one in real life that isn’t thoroughly pissed off with it all now.

Wilsonwilson · 04/02/2021 20:23

No matter what your leanings this amount of time with such sustained propaganda=conditioning. Resist or lean in, its happened and continues to happen. If you can't see it, continue to think we will all be going back to "normal" I don't know what to tell you.

Wilsonwilson · 04/02/2021 20:29

Even if you avoid msm. They have bot farms to astroturf forums and comment sections, so you can't even have a sensible conversation . Look at the whole game stop shit, seems little people cannot ever win. Think that's the point, pure demobilisation.

Wilsonwilson · 04/02/2021 20:30

*demorilisation fuck you autocorrect

knittingaddict · 04/02/2021 20:32

Alternatives please Wilson? One that doesn't involve tens of thousands more dying, an overwhelmed NHS and the risk of more, deadlier mutations. The people who continue to say what you do never have an alternative that actually works.

Your dystopian vision is mostly BS.

Mulletonyourhead · 04/02/2021 20:33

@WilsonwilsonBut for what reason?

knittingaddict · 04/02/2021 20:35
@WilsonwilsonBut for what reason?
I would like to know the answer to that too. There never seems to be one.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 04/02/2021 20:37

I'm happy at home. But then I hate other people apart from DH and ds's so wfh is lovely.
And I hate crowds so prefer shopping online anyway.

DollyParton2 · 04/02/2021 20:40

Completely agree Pinkmarsh nobody I know in reality wants lockdown to continue. Mumsnet is a strange place at times, like a breeding ground for people with strong but minority opinions about a variety of subjects all spouting it as if it’s general consensus when in reality it’s far removed from the norm. Is it because these people in reality don’t have that many friends so come on here, meet some likeminded people and try to dominate threads/ boards as some form of kick? To give purposefully controversial/ often nasty responses as it’s the only power trip they get? Actually say the opposite to what they really think to start debate? Honestly, no idea.

Furries · 05/02/2021 03:08

Just peachy. Yet another flipping thread that is started where, understandably, views and feelings are strong.

And, yet again, another where OP is nowhere to be seen. WTF do so many people “fall” for it? The OP couldn’t give a toss what anyone else thinks/feels about this - the6 just want to sit back and watch while others vent their individual frustrations.

yvanka · 05/02/2021 03:58

I haven't seen anyone say this. The impression I get is that the overwhelming majority are absolutely sick to death of this and can't take much more. I have certainly felt it much harder these past few months, with it being so miserable outside. I could probably take another summer locked down but the winter is destroying me.

yvanka · 05/02/2021 04:00

May I add, I am speaking as someone who has no children to home educate, haven't lost my job, has access to a garden. So many people have had it 1000x harder so I can't imagine how they must be feeling if I am struggling this much.

echt · 05/02/2021 04:12

As the OP is relatively new to MN, they possibly don't get the etiquette of actually saying something to PPs who've been courteous enough to respond. Hmm

tawnytowel · 05/02/2021 04:27

In general everyone I know who wants things to move quickly does so because:

a) they’ve had it and think they’re protected / had a mild version
b) are not worried about what happens if they get it
c) have been vaccinated

Everyone else is generally worried about them or someone they know getting it before vaccine.

The two camps will never agree.

I’m not in an at risk group but I don’t want it and I’d be fine with restrictions staying the way they are for a while. Mostly because it means I don’t have to see people who bemoan them and are desensitised to over 100k deaths.

MoirasRoses · 05/02/2021 09:36

I’m bored stupid & hate life but I cannot do another 4,5,6 month lockdown. So I’m happy to wait until infections are genuinely low & 60+ are vaccinated. Then we actually have some hope of reasonable normality in the latter half of the year & into 2022!
