I have just seen a tweet with a video of a man calling him a liar, its really pissed me off, even his voice is irritating and to attack a man that has worked so hard over the last 2 years.

@Beaniecats please tell us how the elderly and vulnerable could possibly have been cut off from the rest of society who in your scenario, would be carrying on life as normal?

knittingaddict · 03/02/2021 14:23

Beaniecats Confused

Bangs head against brick wall. Again.

DianaT1969 · 03/02/2021 14:35

I admire Chris Whitty enormously and think we are fortunate to have such an experienced, level-headed epidemiologist to advise on and lead the response. Not all countries have this calibre of expert.
He shouldn't be held accountable for government failings. In briefings he tells it as it is.
He also seems kind. Watch his lecture on YouTube from 2018 if you haven't.

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 14:35

He seems a very decent man.

DareIask · 03/02/2021 14:47

Chris Whitty deserves nothing but admiration. I hope when all this is over he gets the acknowledgements he deserves.

How anyone could argue with his experience, expertise and hard work is beyond me. His calm diplomacy when he clearly wants to tell Boris and the public exactly what he thinks instead of toeing the party line deserves a medal in itself.

That kid needs to be out to work on a covid Ward

That young bloke is a prize twat.

Sorry. Cant let this go unsaid. Post Cummings he was asked what he thought at one of the daily briefings. He replied "i dont get involved in politics"

Van Tams response was "the rules apply to EVERYONE.

Having said that though there is no way Whitty shouldnt have had some protection while out on the street. What if the little shit had had a knife?

I agree with Van Tam but the point is that Whitty shouldn't be involved in politics. He should be completely unbiased.

I think it will be interesting to read a ten year look back at this and a close review of his actions
knittingaddict · 03/02/2021 16:21

Well he definitely won't be the devil you seem to think he is Beanie.

frumpety · 03/02/2021 17:40

You might not agree with the course of action the Government decides to take after looking at the information presented to them by Professor Chris Whitty and the many other very experienced and talented health professionals and scientists who make up SAGE and NERVTAG, but let's not pretend that the attention seeking spoutings of a wannabe gansta boy have any credibility.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 03/02/2021 18:28

Loved Whitty's dismissive 'I'm sure he'll grow up to be a model citizen' comments in the press conference. He's so unruffled by irrelevant crap.

This 100%! Class all the way.

This is exactly why I don't get the 'hate' - he feels like a very safe pair of hands and exactly what you'd want from a CMO. I guess the hate is based on him saying what people don't want to hear or have decided they don't believe.
Pomegranatespompom · 03/02/2021 19:24

He’s a thoroughly decent man, who is liked and respected by everyone who has worked with him.
I’m shocked by the comments from the 2 posters about him, really unpleasant.

marshmallowfluffy · 03/02/2021 19:32

Despite what many people think, he advises and the government decides on policy. The government (especially Boris) has regularly rejected advice from SAGE like closing the borders or when to lock down.

I can't believe people are still saying lock down the elderly and vulnerable while everybody else goes on as normal. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Did they not read the stories of people shielding between March and August? The healthy find it hard enough quarantining for 10 days and they had months.
Families come in all sorts of variation and the elderly and CEV don't live alone- they often live with family members who are school aged or a keyworker so have to leave the house.

marshmallowfluffy · 03/02/2021 19:36

The US equivalent Dr Fauci has had to hire security for him and his family. He's had white powder mailed to him and is the regular target of online death threats.
Whitty was surprisingly chilled and classy with the "model citizen" comment. Grin

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 04/02/2021 16:12

@Beaniecats so what you mean is your life shouldn't of been affected and just others
Yet you clearly don't get the bigger picture, do all vulnerable people live on their own, do you not think they have families and children, so should we have just locked up those families , when old people need treatment should we of just left them at home ?
By your way we should of just let it run rampant and who knows what variants we may of had then.
Think I trust Whitty with his degrees and years of study than random people on mumsnet etc who can't see the bigger picture
Lots of people vulnerable to covid maybe teachers., drs , nurses
