@PicsInRed

This is what Brexiters always saw - this is what the EU really are and how they always regarded the UK. They were wearing the abuser's mask all along, every once in a while it slipped...now they've taken it right off and gone to war. It's ugly thank goodness they're so fucking inept theyll lose again.
This. ^ Best thing we ever did leaving that horrible, passive-aggressive controlling, boys club.
PicsInRed · 29/01/2021 19:38

Now we’re not there anymore Germany has got what it’s always wanted, complete control of Europe.

One cannot fix an abuser by remaining with them. All that happens is you take some punches and they keep up a respectable facade, buy some new roads flowers and continue to abuse.

The facade is broken now and now everyone can see what they're like. That's a good thing.

littlepattilou · 29/01/2021 19:39

Must be driving the EU batshit bonkers that they can't control the UK anymore, can't bully us, and can't make us give covid vaccines to them.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Grin

Meredithgrey1 · 29/01/2021 19:39

Can someone explain this to me? I thought they wanted the vaccines being made in the UK, this seems like something that would provoke us to not give them to them, right?
Or have I totally misunderstood the situation? (Very possible, I haven’t totally followed the argument between the EU and AZ)

BBCONEANDTWO · 29/01/2021 19:40

Wonder if Nicola Sturgeon will still want to join the EU if they get independence!

Biscoffaddict · 29/01/2021 19:40
@Biscoffaddict Yeah such control of the EU that Germany have had to do their own private side order of vaccines!
Oh I didn’t think they were allowed to do that? Would be interesting to see if say Poland or Romania are allowed to it....

CrotchetyQuaver · 29/01/2021 19:42

Toys and pram anyone? Corrupt bullies indeed. I'm surprised they have dropped the facade so soon though...

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 19:49

@PronounssheRa

There are suggestions the Irish Government weren't told in advance either.

It's fair to say #rejoinEU is dead in the water for many many years

The Taoiseach has 'expressed concern' over this move, which implies he was not consulted. The Irish political establishment is slavishly pro-EU so highly unlikely he will do anything about it.
TheGoldenCircle · 29/01/2021 19:50

I didn’t live in the UK for many years and had no hesitation in voting Brexit. The UK people were brainwashed into thinking being in the EU was best for us. It wasn’t. Also, no one really saw what was going on here in that it’s all about German dominance over Europe where they failed twice before and just changed tact.

People think Brexiteers are just racists. I actually cried this morning when I read that we have offered 300,000 HK Chinese a route to live here. I used to live there and they will add so much to our country. Funny, kind, educated, hard working and industrious people.

Many of us saw through the EU and it doesn’t make me happy to say that. I’m glad that others are starting to see this and I hope it heals the rift sooner.

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 19:52

They appear to have lost the plot.

Bluntness100 · 29/01/2021 19:54

It seems the Uk will also now have to follow suit which means there will need to be a border. I suspect they are doing it to get vaccines. Like a blackmail action. Give us vaccines and we will pull back.

It’s fairly shitty desperate behaviour.

lunapeace · 29/01/2021 19:54

It was only really trendy to follow the remain campaign, following an ideology. I'm pleased to see on MN of all places, people finally standing the Brexit corner. I must have crossed over to an alternative reality.

The opposite I think, it’s like we want your vaccines. If you give them to us we will pull back on this, if not we will force a border in Ireland.
FOJN · 29/01/2021 19:58

I can understand your emotion, offering those people, who want to leave, a route out makes me very happy.

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 19:58

@Pomegranatespompom

Government have been very quiet and I think that’s been good not to inflame but now we now it just feels even more like bullying 😦

Frazzled2207 · 29/01/2021 20:00

I’m as much a remainer as they come and even I think this is a batshit move by the EU.

This. ^ I am overjoyed actually, that people are FINALLY seeing what the EU are really like. And that yes, we DID do the right thin leaving them.
littlepattilou · 29/01/2021 20:00

*right thing!

MaMaLa321 · 29/01/2021 20:01

I voted leave for pretty much the same reasons. Up until this week I had deeply regretted it but the way things are going I'm thinking I'm glad we're out.

me too PinkSparklyPussyCat

It's not often in life that one is entirely vindicated, is it?

tara671 · 29/01/2021 20:04

Very wise, @IcedPurple

Keepithidden · 29/01/2021 20:04

Its just political sabre rattling, nothing to get concerned about IMO.

I totally agree. Good family and community values, strong work ethic, well educated, love to buy homes including flats they will be an absolute financial AND social asset to the UK. Huge welcome to them.

(This why China's trying to stop them leaving)

CarolEffingBaskin · 29/01/2021 20:05

This behaviour is precisely why many of us voted for Brexit. We could see this bullying, hypocritical behaviour for what it was and wanted no more of it. We were called racists for our thoughts (I don't deny that many Brexit voters are racist, but not all of us, as was suggested). It's very, very hard not to gloat at the really nasty remainers I know to be honest, but gloating is an ugly activity. The EU are awful.

DayBath · 29/01/2021 20:05

Someone up thread said this will make the EU countries want to pull out and exit like we have but surely this will look great from their perspective? Fearless Merkel fighting for vaccines for the whole of Europe against evil greedy Britain who stole them.

I can see the EU side really spin doctoring this in their favour. Would be interesting to see what the international press headlines are tomorrow.

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 20:06

I wouldn't say shit stirring on the most sensitive border in Europe is mere 'sabre rattling'.
