Anyone else thinking of rearranging their summer holiday?

I swing between thinking it will be okay by August and thinking we are never going to be able to go.

For the first time ever I have not booked anything yet. So sick of having things cancelled that I would rather leave it until nearer the time and book last minute if allowed

Heatheronthehill · 25/01/2021 13:53

We are booked to go away in early August, but it’s UK based, so I think we’ll get to go. Got a short break in April and one in June too, so we’ll see about them.

Heatheronthehill · 25/01/2021 13:53

All in England I’ll add.

MiddleOfThePack · 25/01/2021 13:54

We have a holiday booked in August but only because we have a family wedding that was postponed from April.

Only paid a refundable (until June) £25 deposit as you can't be sure the wedding will happen.

No other plans at all. Just not worth any hassle.

TastyTicklemore · 25/01/2021 13:55

We have a UK one booked in November - postponed from last November - and I am not banking on that going ahead tbh.

MiddleOfThePack · 25/01/2021 13:55

Wedding is in Wales and we are in England so who knows?!

Angel2702 · 25/01/2021 13:59

We have a uk holiday booked, it was fine last year so hoping in 7 months time it will be able to go ahead. Because I can’t imagine everything still being closed by then. Vaccines should be around 70 per cent of adults by then.

BiddyPop · 25/01/2021 14:00

we haven't booked or even started seriously arranging anything yet. Well, booked DD on a sports camp that needed early booking, plan being that can be cancelled, but if all is well, DH and I will drop her there (it's in EU mainland) and stay near but separate to her and enjoy a few days exploring the city and relaxing ourselves. May well add an extra day at the end so she can do a tourist day also (but she's been to the city in the past with us).

If we cannot do that, we will organise something here - self catering, driving there, relatively low key. It's not terribly unusual for us to do that and there is a holiday house within the family we could use, or rent somewhere in a different place.

But there is far too much uncertainty for me to book anything this early this year. I got my money back on flights and accommodation last year, but not the airport car parking (booked as part of flight booking) and a few other bits we didn't get back. And flights took a long time to get refunded.

I would prefer not to get excited and then very disappointed again.

TravellingSpoon · 25/01/2021 14:00

We are supposed to be going to Turkey. It was rearranged from last summer.

Indecisive12 · 25/01/2021 14:02

I’m starting to feel that I should but I really want to go. We’re at the end of August and I hope it’s possible.

Honeydukesmum · 25/01/2021 14:02

Will the proposed quarantine hotels mean you would have to factor the cost/time not at home after being abroad too ?

FreakinFrankNFurter · 25/01/2021 14:08

We’re supposed to be going to Turkey at the end of May - Istanbul for a few days and then on to a beach place for 10 nights. Have booked the hotels but not flights yet.

I know I need to cancel the hotels as we won’t be going but I just can’t bring myself to do it at the moment. Just feel so bloody sad as I’ve always wanted to go to Istanbul and this is the first year we thought DS could manage a city break. I know it’s only a holiday and there’s a lot worse going on but it had been something to look forward to. Life is so bloody miserable at the moment. It’s not fair! (Stamps foot like petulant toddler)

borageforager · 25/01/2021 14:10

U.K. holiday booked. I think it will happen - after all we had summer holidays in the U.K. last year? People even went abroad! I don’t think abroad will be happening this summer though...

movingonup20 · 25/01/2021 14:10

I booked euro tunnel crossings yesterday. I figure self drive is likely to be the most suitable option. We don't need school holidays so it's beginning of September by which time we should be vaccinated

Turnedouttoes · 25/01/2021 14:11

We’ve got Greece booked for the end of August. It’s fully refundable so I’m paying it off as usual until we absolutely know we can’t go. I’m still holding out some hope.

Also have Spain booked for Easter which I’m sure won’t happen but we’ve only paid a deposit of £150 so will wait for the flights to be cancelled and get our money back or cancel and get a voucher

Hotcuppatea · 25/01/2021 14:11

I've just booked a week in Devon for early August. I'm confident that will go ahead. If we can get a week in October half term abroad, we'll go then too.

WilsonMilson · 25/01/2021 14:12

We are booked to go to Italy and France at Easter and to Spain in July, all rescheduled from last year. I was pretty positive when we bumped the trips on a year that all would be well, so much for that!
I’ve already ruled out Italy and France at Easter and now I’m seriously wondering whether Spain will happen in summer.

sundowners · 25/01/2021 14:14

Spain for 3 weeks in August. Villas booked- can cancel a month before for full refund. Still going to book flights. A LOT will change by August. What we are experiencing right now is the worst it’ll be. It can only get better and it will. Half the country vaccinated, hotter weather, 7 months till we go- I’m very much expecting we will!

Umbridge34 · 25/01/2021 14:19

We have 2 weeks booked at beginning of May for Greece (rebooked from last year). We are paying a bit of a waiting game to be honest. Its highly likely to be cancelled anyway but a part of me wonders of the hotel quarantine thing comes in the operator will say we have that option so won't cancel. So we've basically got 30 days to cancel and just lose our deposit or hold out and see if tui cancel on us.

I won't be rebooking though. Not worth it getting cancelled.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 25/01/2021 14:20

We have Egypt booked for the end of August - a postponement from last year. I really can't see it happening.

tmh88 · 25/01/2021 14:23

First time I haven’t booked anything this year, I booked France for Oct 2020 in January 2020 and it was a nightmare getting refunds etc so not worth the risk for me this time!

that1970shouse · 25/01/2021 14:25

We still haven't got all our refunds from last year. The hassle of fighting for what we are legally entitled to has totally put us off booking anything else. Plus we did lose some money on a non-refundable element.

If I had something booked I guess I'd sit tight and cross my fingers.

Turnedouttoes · 25/01/2021 14:32

Out of interest, those saying refunds last year were a nightmare, who were you booked with?
We had multiple trips booked with both BA and TUI and had no problems at all getting a quick refund

Hotcuppatea · 25/01/2021 14:35

I'd like to say that Air BnB were excellent recently when I had to cancel for the February half term. I had the money back in my account within 48 hours. Its given me lots of confidence in booking again with them.

shinynewapple2021 · 25/01/2021 14:38

We have a holiday in Italy in June transferred from last year . Will await to see what happens closer to the time. We have Covid cancellation on accommodation but flights are already transferred .

Will book a UK break as soon as we are able .
