Anyone else thinking of rearranging their summer holiday?

I swing between thinking it will be okay by August and thinking we are never going to be able to go.

We have two holidays transferred from last year to this in the U.K. I don’t see going ahead. Also booked a U.K. holiday for august however on the off chance.

Phymp · 25/01/2021 14:42

I can't see overseas travel for holidays being possible this year. Even if we got everyone vaccinated other countries are way behind us in their vaccines.
Tests before you travel, tests while away and hotel quarantine on return.
I have a s/c UK break in August which I hope will happen.

herecomesthsun · 25/01/2021 14:43

We aren't booking anything. We are staying right where we are till things are clearer. (we are very lucky that this is a decent option for us)

Redrivershore · 25/01/2021 14:43

Might be worth booking in the UK for the summer because if there is a short window, availably may become difficult, just make sure it is one that you can get a full refund from.

herecomesthsun · 25/01/2021 14:45

That's a good point.

LemonViolet · 25/01/2021 14:45

I have 2 short breaks in June and August, within the U.K. planned around attending specific events; hotels are booked on a flexible/cancellable basis so it just depends on whether the events are allowed to go ahead - I’m 50/50 but hopeful! We won’t be planning anything outside of the U.K. for a few years I expect until travel restrictions/return quarantine is dropped - we can’t afford enough time off work to cover the isolation on return as well. We both work outside of the home and have never stopped - weren’t even able to take our full annual leave entitlements in 2020 - so not quite as bored of our four walls yet as everyone else WFH/furloughed must be; we’re just planning to use annual leave for holidays-at-home really. Maybe visit/stay with family/friends elsewhere in the U.K. when that’s allowed.

The rest of the world will still be there in a few years time. Hopefully.

We also used air B and B last year for a UK mini break, it was very well organised and convenient (we could get Ocado delivered to the door for example).

zafferana · 25/01/2021 14:49

Yeah, I don't know what to do either. We have flights booked to our other country for August, mainly because we had an airline credit from flights cancelled last year. However, with the way things are going both here and there I think the only chance of us being able to go without quarantine either one way or both would be if both DH and I are both fully vaccinated by August. DH will be 51 soon, so he should be, but I'm >50 so .... ???

Plan A: we go to other country as planned; if not then
Plan B: hopefully we can go somewhere in Europe; and if that's not possible then
Plan C: we book something in the UK ... or we stay at home!

zafferana · 25/01/2021 14:49

Sorry, that should be

tootyfruitypickle · 25/01/2021 14:51

Booked a UK one for summer which I am sure will go ahead, Airbnb host got my booking by offering free cancellation until week before. We will fly there but haven’t booked flights yet but probably will soon.

2022 am working on itinerary for two foreign trips keeping my hope alive, but def wouldn’t book for this year just because of all the faffery .

Ohdeariedear · 25/01/2021 14:52

Not booked anything. The thought of having to cancel again is just too depressing. We’ll just see what we can get if and when we can go.

didireallysaythat · 25/01/2021 14:55

We were planning to visit remote Scottish isles in the summer but I'm not comfortable currently about introducing risk into remote places (we may have had our vaccines but the kids won't have)

lovemirage · 25/01/2021 15:17

If they open travel corridors we might go to Finland in August. Otherwise I can't see us having a hassle with pre flight tests and quarantines in both ends.

Littlepond · 25/01/2021 15:31

I have a holiday in Scotland booked, rearranged from last summer. We are in England. I so desperately want to go, but I’m not feeling hopeful.

Lemons1571 · 25/01/2021 15:34

Booked near Calais for august. Eurotunnel and accommodation, both fully refundable, though tbh I’d probably just shift them to next year if allowed.

TransplantedScouser · 25/01/2021 15:37

Planning to go to the canaries in November - we have a place there so its just the flights......

we'd normally plan a lot more trips - but we're only pre booking November - and if we get to go earlier in the year so much the better

cathyandclare · 25/01/2021 15:39

We booked to go to South Africa in July ( booked pre variant) - not feeling optimistic!

Alfaix · 25/01/2021 15:48

Just booked a week in Norfolk in August. Have Spain planned for July moved from last year but not sure it will happen so booked a UK break too. If we get both great, if we can’t go abroad I am hopeful we can go to Norfolk.

AuntieMarys · 25/01/2021 15:53

A week in Wales early July...already postponed from last year

TalskiddyTreacleMiner · 25/01/2021 15:55

We were meant to be going to Portugal in mid-May, booked in January last year and postponed from last October and I've just rearranged it again to October this year. I'll see how things go over the summer and take a view as to whether to postpone again then. Luckily EasyJet are being very reasonable with their free flight changes at the moment and the hotel is fully amendable until a week before. I hope we go this year, but I'm not sure we will.

Pyewhacket · 25/01/2021 15:57

This isn’t going away any time soon so I’ll think about it next year , maybe. But then I travelled widely and worked in quite a few countries when I graduated so a holiday means something different to me.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 25/01/2021 15:58

We have a UK holiday booked for May half term (postponed from last year) if that's all I get this year I'll be happy!

I was looking on Tui at summer holidays at the weekend then I gave my head a wobble. We had a UK holiday last August and I would be happy with that again this year, I just want to go somewhere

HeronLanyon · 25/01/2021 16:04

I haven’t arranged anything to rearrange !
Also not arranged anything for Christmas.

PattyPan · 25/01/2021 16:08

I am unsure about whether to book something in England for September, have been holding off booking anything but I’m hopeful for the vaccine situation by then. What would you gain by rearranging it now vs later? Would you lose money if you don’t and it doesn’t go ahead?

LizFlowers · 25/01/2021 16:18

I haven't even thought about going away, not sure that I want to anyway. All I want is for this dreadful pandemic to be controlled and to be able to enjoy the good weather which we will undoubtedly have later one, locally.
