Anyone else thinking of rearranging their summer holiday?

I swing between thinking it will be okay by August and thinking we are never going to be able to go.

OP posts:

Just realised i think another thing delaying things in my mind is being so unsure when my ‘number will come up’ for vaccination. And my dp. Until then just seems utterly pointless arranging anything ‘abroad’ or major here in U.K.

LovingBob · 25/01/2021 17:08

I did wonder about vaccine time, then thought I can just book it when I get back, it's not like they will stop you, also the government doesn't seem to think it matters whether the 2nd one is 3 or 12 weeks so that could fit around a holiday also

HeronLanyon · 25/01/2021 17:12

Loving you might be right at the moment I feel like showing up ASAP when called. Stand easy, heron

Have a holiday to Spain booked for July. Accommodation was booked last year but only just booked the flights - they are really cheap at the moment. It would be lovely to go but if it gets moved again it's not the end of the world and my kids are to young to realise what's going on.
Also have a UK trip booked for November.

OxoMonarch · 25/01/2021 17:48

We have the in-laws in Devon so will head there for a week, with some camping in Cornwall near friends tagged on.

I’m hoping to get up to Scotland to see my family, but haven’t got anything booked.

FinallyMrsE · 25/01/2021 17:50

We too have a holiday booked to Turkey in august, I’m not considering rearranging it but I am starting to panic.

Although I keep thinking that my sister managed to get there in august 2020 so we’ll be ok. I really hope we can go 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Twixmasdilema · 25/01/2021 21:13

Looking at booking a UK break for the summer very soon. It was fine last year so hopeful for this. Cba with abroad and all the worry about cancellation so will save for next year if, fingers crossed, this is all over. Have noticed that lots of the UK breaks I've been looking at have limited availability so planning to get booked asap!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/01/2021 21:21

I wouldn't be planning on going abroad this year unfortunately.

We've got UK holidays booked for March (not expecting to go), May (on the fence about whether it'll go ahead), September and December (expect to go on both). They are transferable or refundable so I'm not worried about losing money. We really need to go at least once as we are planning on moving close to the area and want to use the holidays to suss out some areas.

Autumn101 · 25/01/2021 21:28

I’ve just booked a week in Cornwall, hopefully we’ll book another week up north somewhere too. We have lots of friends up there who we’re desperate to see!! Returned back from living overseas last summer but due to restrictions haven’t been able to see them yet so if we could that would be better than any holiday. Also spent the last 7.5 years living in hot countries so I’m beach and pooled out!

trilbydoll · 25/01/2021 21:30

We've booked a French campsite with our credit note from last year. They've provided similar insurance so if we have to cancel we'll get another credit note.

Not doing anything about ferries until much nearer the time.

Bonsai49 · 25/01/2021 21:36

We’ve booked a week in Cornwall , exactly the same place we went to last year . Won’t book abroad this year ... not even bothered renewing my youngest passport !

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 25/01/2021 21:38

I've gambled on some eurotunnel tix. Cheapest option, non refundable, so definitely a gamble.

PrettyCherryBlossom · 25/01/2021 21:46

We were holding out for an overseas holiday in the summer but over the weekend we decided it was looking less likely to happen and today we booked a UK trip (refundable if restrictions prevent us going). We expect UK demand to rise if the hotel quarantine kicks in so we wanted to secure something now.

99victoria · 25/01/2021 23:49

Our holiday to Greece was cancelled last year and rearranged for the beginning of July this year. If there's any chance of going we will. Happy to quarantine when we get back if required - we'll block out the time in the diary. OH and I should have had our vaccinations by then (although I may have only had one dose) so keeping everything crossed!

Silkiechickscat · 26/01/2021 07:12

Not booking anything yet for this summer but likely to be UK based as kids and I won't be vaccinated before then, only DH.

Was really hard to get refunds from last year's Asian summer holiday (booked everything directly) and still trying to get some back - atm we've got back all but £1,460 which is a BA charge £35 for Avios points change, currency change losses, Air Asia £1130 and one hotel £270 booked directly in Thailand. AirAsia gave us 2 year credits for around £400 and Thai hotel extended to this August but that won't be viable - they've just agreed to pay out -20% in 45 days but we will see. Insurance got out of everything and have no confidence in insurance anymore though DD's school trip did get deposit refunded on their insurance.

MrsSmith2021 · 26/01/2021 07:13

Didn’t book anything as couldn’t see it happening. We will go camping last minute if poss!

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2021 07:24

One slightly refreshing thing I’ve found is whenever we are able to travel out of the U.K. I think I’m going to be very much less ‘particular’ for a bit.
Although having said that, when I do think this I realise for sure I won’t want to be going somewhere big/busy/crowded/lots of transfers/local public transport ferries trains etc, so maybe that’s a load of nonsense after all ?

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 26/01/2021 07:30

We booked a uk July break yesterday as I can’t see our postponed from last year holiday to Spain happening.

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2021 07:52

Just saw this. Hmmm.

Anyone else thinking of rearranging their summer holiday?
NoGoodPunsLeft · 26/01/2021 08:12

@HeronLanyon Matt Hancock has already advised against booking a holiday abroad for this summer so I'm not surprised.

Uk again hopefully!

Frazzled2207 · 26/01/2021 08:43

Going abroad looking very doubtful IMO. Hoping for a uk cottage hol in August once again though. Would be a very sorry state of affairs if that wasn’t allowed.

LemonViolet · 26/01/2021 22:54

What happens if you have a U.K. holiday booked, but then you get covid symptoms/test positive within 10 days prior to the holiday so self-isolation rules mean that legally you can’t go? Is there insurance for that?

I’ve looked through FAQs for a few cottage sites etc and they’re clear that if lockdown/Tier restrictions mean you can’t go on the holiday then you can get a refund/change dates.... but what if you actually have covid/symptoms?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/01/2021 23:24

I'm booked on an easter short break in Spain with colleague/friends.

Considering it's currently illegal to travel for holidaying purposes and the papers are full of the news of the quarantine hotels etc, I'm not imagining that the gov will change that advice in a hurry and April will be a bust.

Some people will travel regardless I imagine. My friends ignored the 'only travel if it's essential' advice last year and took the gamble with their break by going anyway. Their travel insurance would have been a bust if they'd need to have claimed as they weren't supposed to travel but they deemed their need for a break to trump common sense that.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 27/01/2021 07:36

@LemonViolet there are certain travel insurance companies which do insure for things like that (stay sure is one) but I've only looked for abroad holidays not uk.

I wouldn't normally get travel insurance for a uk holiday but depending on the t&cs I would consider it now. But anything we book now would have to have a good cancellation policy.

AuntyClementine · 27/01/2021 08:29

I won’t be booking anything, UK or overseas, until it’s much clearer that it will be able to go ahead.
