For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

I read somewhere 2nd half of the year. But I can't find the link @TeaInTheGarden

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 23:45

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

The thing that stood out for me today was how many areas there are with cases in single figures. Rutland only has 1 case!
So how did that person they catch it then😂
LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 23:48

They've been minglin'!

@tootyfruitypickle

My parents are mid 70s and no sign of letter or call yet... 2 weeks Boris !!
@tootyfruitypickle they should be able to book through the NHS link. No need to wait for the letter to be delivered

Link to booking website

Blerg · 30/01/2021 08:18

Interested to see this. My mum is late 70s, hasn’t had a letter, and cannot yet book through that link.

She’s in Suffolk, they’ve been quite slow there, but she knows some local younger people who’ve been jabbed.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/01/2021 08:22

That's really frustrating blerg and must be a worry for your mum.
Are the younger people CEV? That might make a difference to when they're called. I know that here they are doing the over 75s this weekend, but have obviously called CEVs for next weekend.

Blerg · 30/01/2021 08:26

Thanks @FuzzyPuffling not that we know of, but we may not know for sure of course. I think my mum probably is fairly vulnerable for a range of reasons but hasn’t been notified as such.

I even dreamt about vaccines last night. I walked passed the local Boots and it had been converted into a load of amazingly futuristic vaccine bays.

Pomegranatespompom · 30/01/2021 08:42

Great link @tobee

FuzzyPuffling · 30/01/2021 08:50

That's a fabulous dream blerg. I like your subconscious thinking!

It's really anxiety- inducing worrying about your loved ones who seem to be getting left behind. I think your mum is definitely next in line for the Magic Marzipan Vibes. And BabyOwl is on the case too. Come on Suffolk!

louisejxxx · 30/01/2021 08:56

Hopefully in the next few days we’ll get to the point where they say “right, if you haven’t heard from anyone and your over a certain age - now is the time to call” - I think it was Simon Stevens who said that we’d reach a point like this?

louisejxxx · 30/01/2021 08:57

*you’re

Blerg · 30/01/2021 08:59

Hope so @FuzzyPuffling! That’s interesting @louisejxxx I hadn’t heard that.

My Dad has his last week 👍 so here’s hoping.

louisejxxx · 30/01/2021 09:02

Yeah I’m sure he said it at one of the news briefings within the last couple of weeks. I guess it would be to stop them from declaring “we’ve done everyone in those categories!” and then lots of people then saying they haven’t heard a thing.

My mums in Suffolk too (Thetford area) and became eligible yesterday so maybe they are working through them now - keep checking every couple of days and it may change soon!
Frazzled2207 · 30/01/2021 09:05

@louisejxxx

I believe they have if you’re over 80 but not (yet) over 70. There is a link you can log into as long as you’re registered with a gp and had the official letter.
I do wonder how many are falling through the cracks though due to being housebound, no family, a bit confused/scared etc

Frazzled2207 · 30/01/2021 09:06

Apols ignore me link discussion already done

Fantastic news thanks.
ILookAtTheFloor · 30/01/2021 09:40

I'm also keen on Suffolk news as my in-laws live there (Suffolk Coastal/Waveney) and are desperate. They haven't tried the link yet despite my begging them! I need to assuage my guilt for already having the first dose through work when there are many more deserving people before me!

Frazzled2207 · 30/01/2021 09:43

It’s from the US but here is a lovely good news story about what happened when a freezer
In Seattle full of Pfizer failed in the middle of the night

TeaInTheGarden · 30/01/2021 09:47

@tobee this is just the sort of thing I want to hear, and I really hope the next few weeks are going to show this more and more.
The best buy is if it’s showing an effect already, that’s probably not even including those vaccinated in the last 2 or 3 weeks, so imagine how much they are going to affect it too in the next few weeks, it’s just going to grow and grow! Incredibly exciting and I’m just praying that by 15 Feb and the review, things are looking totally different and we can start clawing our way cautiously back to normality.

That sounds fantastic! I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic about that, as we know the vaccine stops you from getting symptoms but not necessarily from getting infected. So it might just be that people aren't coming forward to be tested as they're asymptomatic.

Just as on the flip side to that, cases in my area suddenly shot up as soon as the Council joined the scheme for testing asymptomatic cases.

Even then, it's still brilliant that people aren't getting ill enough to consider getting themselves tested! Fabulous news for our older and vulnerable family members, and long may it continue.
