The £500 thing that's been leaked to the press today?

claptrapflapjack · 22/01/2021 10:31

No way. It is too much.

I just want to go for a walk in the countryside and am allowed to do it under the Guidelines. Call off the police.

RoseAndRose · 22/01/2021 10:33

And a homily to reinforce that having the jab does not mean you can relax your vigilance.

Fuller description of current stresses on NHS and why no change to restrictions (unless to make then stricter) for at least another fortnight

claptrapflapjack · 22/01/2021 10:34

btw I don't mean £500 is too much, I mean all the press conferences are too much. These public addresses should be for really important stuff. These minor changes should be handled by a press release.
What does the government gain by taking over our TV screens for many evenings each week, apart from telling people that they aren't allowed to do things that they are expressly allowed to do, while refusing to enforce laws on face coverings in indoor spaces or refusing to check that all open workplaces are actually essential.

Today's £500 discussion is payment for those who test positive - to be made more widely available (possibly universal) and more easily claimed.

That's not really a minor change?

independent98 · 22/01/2021 10:37

Of my prediction is that the lockdown will be extended to end of march to follow Ireland

TimeForLunch · 22/01/2021 10:42

The Irish lockdown extension is until the 5th March, not the end.

Teenageromance · 22/01/2021 10:42

Surely not to end of March so soon?

CrunchyCarrot · 22/01/2021 10:43

Alas.

That is all.

Malbecky · 22/01/2021 10:46

I really hope that he clarifies (😄🤣 haha - clarity!) that it's not allowed for households to mix up to 14 people 🙄 after PP appallingly press conference yesterday, stating that anyone found attending a gathering of more than 15 would be fined! 🤦‍♀️

Malbecky · 22/01/2021 10:46

*appalling

Didn’t the treasury expressly say that wouldn’t be happening?

Then again, given past experience of this govt, that means it’ll definitely be happening.

Quartz2208 · 22/01/2021 10:47

Lockdown already is the 31st March though the Feb date is just a review

seasideseas · 22/01/2021 10:48

"Those elderly people are not going to take any notice now they are vaccinated. They must feel superhuman"

Don't be daft

If you do think the £500 will come into force now, then yes that is a big change. I really think they will use it as a measure once virus levels are much lower to help lift lockdown, so maybe in a few weeks. I suspect it will be like BJ's last week conference of boasting of vaccinating the elderly in large numbers and reminding us to stay at home.

Unfortunately, the DailyFail had many interviews with over-60s yesterday taking off their mask and visors going on about how they couldn't wait to go to the pub/France etc. And I would certainly feel a lot safer with a vaccine (or 2) in me (but I am a stay at home type anyway).
GabsAlot · 22/01/2021 11:02

that his hair is out of control and theres nothing he can do about it

beachdays123 · 22/01/2021 11:05

24hr vaccine centres perhaps?

Yohoheaveho · 22/01/2021 11:05

Wild guess ....some sort of 'do as you're told or people will die' message🤷‍♀️

Heyahun · 22/01/2021 11:05

seriously why are people so obsessed with these press conferences - who cares - same shit different day!

Vox pops count for shit. You can't wade out on to the street for a few hours and pick the most dramatic statements and make blanket predictions in what people will do and feel in general. It's a way to fill column inches and whip up a dramatic headline to keep their audience feed their daily diet of outrage.

cardswapping · 22/01/2021 11:07

£500 thing has been killed already Covid-19: Government sources downplay £500 self-isolation payment idea

PurpleDaisies · 22/01/2021 11:08

It’s most likely just going to be an update. He’s done them before without announcing anything significant.

cardswapping · 22/01/2021 11:10

@seasideseas @claptrapflapjack

Saga have already updated their travel requirement to make CV19 compulsory for travel.

travel.saga.co.uk/travel-updates/cruise-coronavirus-vaccine.aspx

We have taken the decision to introduce the requirement that all guests must be fully vaccinated. This means that guests must have received their full two doses of the COVID‑19 vaccination at least 14 days before travelling with us.
