to make CV19 vaccination compulsory!!!

Typo of the year Grin

AKissAndASmile · 22/01/2021 11:16

LOL @cardswapping! Maybe that's why covid19 is rife Grin

seasideseas · 22/01/2021 11:18

"Saga have already updated their travel requirement to make CV19 compulsory for travel."

So what?

"Unfortunately, the DailyFail had many interviews with over-60s yesterday taking off their mask and visors going on about how they couldn't wait to go to the pub/France etc."

So what?

Means absolutely nothing.

Saga have already updated their travel requirement to make CV19 compulsory for travel.

travel.saga.co.uk/travel-updates/cruise-coronavirus-vaccine.aspx

We have taken the decision to introduce the requirement that all guests must be fully vaccinated. This means that guests must have received their full two doses of the COVID‑19 vaccination at least 14 days before travelling with us.[/quote]
This is for their cruises, starting early summer. I was a little shocked that they will be operating cruises from early summer for older people, even with vaccinations.
IDK, life will be nice for some. I am cautious and will be staying mostly at home until I've been vaccinated. I wouldn't mind a country walk though. SAGA will be allowed to take thousands of older people on cruises before that will be openly allowed though.

MorrisZapp · 22/01/2021 11:39

If Boris appears on TV: 'he's going to say alas! Ha ha ha!'

If Boris doesn't appear on TV: 'where the hell is the PM? He's probably hiding in a fridge! Ha ha ha!'

HibernatingTill2030 · 22/01/2021 11:55

Bluster, waffle and sound bites.
Bonus points if he references blitz spirit.

CrunchyCarrot · 22/01/2021 12:05

This seems risky. Even though all the passengers will have been vaccinated they'll still presumably be allowed off the ship at various places, where they could pick up the infection, and bring it home with them, or someone will still get infected despite having the vaccine (as it's not 100% effective). Seems like another recipe for quarantined cruise ships. Hmm

You'd think they'd wait a little longer for more data to be collected on possible transmission rates and general vaccine efficacy in the elderly before getting their cruises underway again.

cardswapping · 22/01/2021 12:09

I wonder how many will really go on cruises again tbh. My 80+ MIL is still waiting for her first vaccine dose and has already decided that the only risk she wants to take is seeing her family again, not travelling.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 12:11

I think going on cruises is often like a tribal thing, people build an identity around it. I think there's more spring back potential than people who wouldn't touch a cruise with a barge pole (me) might first guess.

GambasPil · 22/01/2021 12:14

Get in! I love a good press conference. It’s a Friday night too, so I can open the vodka and play Boris quote bingo.

Chaotic45 · 22/01/2021 13:28

How will saga ensure all their staff are also vaccinated?. It's bonkers and a kick in the teeth for those whose lives are now broken after following restrictions designed to protect those who will be vaccinated and then swanning off on holiday whist we won't get a look in this year.

Kids can't go to school, but grandma can go on holiday.

Fuck you Boris, we aren't all in this together, people are sinking and drowning.

PuzzledObserver · 22/01/2021 14:02

Part of the Saga announcement was that they are delaying the start of cruises until May. They had some booked for March and April, now cancelled.

As for the danger of allowing them to leave the ship, could still pass on the virus etc.... while this is true, the risk is very low.

Some people might isolate for eternity (if they can) as long as there are any Covid cases anywhere. I think most will be ready to take advantage of things opening up once they have been vaccinated, even though the risk to them personally is not zero.

That’s certainly how I feel. I’m just getting over Covid. I know I’m not guaranteed to be immune now, but the risk of me catching it a second time is much lower than the risk of me catching it first time. So when cafes are open, I’ll be in there, although I only chanced it a couple of times during the summer and Autumn.

Oh, and if anyone is going to say “see, you went in a cafe twice and caught Covid!” I caught it from DH and he caught it in the care home where he works, despite PPE.

claptrapflapjack · 22/01/2021 14:12

I can see that older vaccinated people might want to take these cruises, but apart from the actual coronavirus risk (and any future mutations, including at the places that their ship visits or where they take on board supplies and/or staff) there is also the risk of getting stranded. This happens repeatedly, one person (holidaymaker or staff) gets a positive test and no port will let them dock, or they get confined to dock a long way from home. Their insurance will likely have excluded pandemics by now. The UK government has to find a way to bring them home and our news gets taken over by victims who went off on a cruise during a pandemic.

claptrapflapjack · 22/01/2021 14:13

They had some booked for March and April LOL

So he'll be ruling out the £500, talking about vaccine stuff and why recipients mustn't change their social behaviour, why we're not out of the woods yet (hospital situation?) still too early to consider having more pupils onsite in schools.

StepOutOfLine · 22/01/2021 14:42

First 8 letters of your user name were well chosen though.

WhingingGiraffe · 22/01/2021 14:48

South African variant resists vaccines?

RoseAndRose · 22/01/2021 14:50

If there were a new variant that looked liked to not be covered by existing jabs, then I think we'd have seen a lot more chatter about it?

I have reported your vicious post, totally unwarranted and unjustified nastiness

It's just emerging - perhaps too early to call.

amicissimma · 22/01/2021 14:55

"Their insurance will likely have excluded pandemics by now. "

I've just received the invitation to renew my annual Travel Insurance and it definitely includes cover for pandemics, including Covid. What is does exclude is cancellation by companies not being able to operate due to Covid, which should be recoverable (eventually) from the company in question.
