Doom and gloom. ENDLESS

I have had enough of all this doom. Just when you think there might be a bit of hope you see headlines such as ‘the vaccine won’t work’ ‘mutant strains’ and what has actually TIPPED ME OVER THE EDGE TODAY ‘lockdown until June’

WHAT ON EARTH.

How can we be locked in our homes and isolated for six months when we are vaccinating over 200k a day AND lots more are getting immunity through recovery from infection.

I understand things are bad and I have always done everything I can to protect the vulnerable but seriously we can’t be locked in our homes until June can we?

Can anyone talk some sense into me please because I feel like going into my garden and lying on my lawn screaming.

You are the first to mention those so I assume you must read them. I don’t have Facebook and don’t read the Dailymail. I also have medic friends but I know that doesn’t add any credence to my argument hence not mentioning it. There are lots of experts and scientists on both sides of the debate.

No, I don’t read them. My in law family do and they sound similar to you. If you have friends in medicine/science field and you listen to them, their frustrations, their daily struggles, their concerns, I don’t know how you can say you will ignore rules. My friends are exhausted dealing with this daily. To say, I’ll just do what I want from Easter would be like kicking them whilst they are down. I can’t understand it.

midgebabe · 20/01/2021 12:02

Yes things are crap but people spouting nonsense and downright lies does not help anyone . I can't take you "mental health" seriously if you lie about the situation .

KatherineJaneway · 20/01/2021 12:02

Fuck right off with your complaining about being isolated. You're not actually locked in your house, you have internet and a device, you are fine.

That might be suitable for YOU, I'm not fine.

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/01/2021 12:06

@TwelvePaws

You obviously didn’t read my posts correctly. I never said I was not going to obey the rules. I said I don’t believe we should continue to lockdown.

Not going to bother answering the rest of your post as it is patronising bs. As I said before there is medics on both side of the debate. In a few years time this whole debacle will be studied. Until then no one can say which side is right.

Timeontimeoff · 20/01/2021 12:07

The tiny proportion of the population you talk about is filling some hospitals up and staff are so exhausted or ill or isolating that army supporting....kind of difficult to just crack on and ignore

namechangefail2020 · 20/01/2021 12:09

I've just looked and can't see any doom stories, where are they?

HermannlovesPauline · 20/01/2021 12:12

Yesterday I was thinking how nice sleep is cos you can actually do things in it - like see friends, have holidays, enjoy hobbies and then I was thinking how nice it would be to sleep all the time. Then I realised that is death.

TwelvePaws · 20/01/2021 12:16

You replied to a comment of mine that was a reply to someone else. I presumed you were the poster my conversation was with. No idea what you’ve said in this thread apart from the comment I replied to presuming you were the pp.

Keepyourdistance000 · 20/01/2021 12:18

Just from a selfish point of view, I haven't seen my family including elderly parents for nearly a year now. My mental health is at rock bottom and it seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Only last week they were saying current restrictions could ease in March, but now could go on for months.

Many businesses will never reopen.

The Government and scientists do not care about mental health and the increasing amount of suicides.

Those begging for lockdown to remain until summer must be loaded, have no job worries, big houses and live with or near loved ones.

user7778 · 20/01/2021 12:21

OP, please tell us where you are seeing all these reports about June. I've googled and can find nothing apart from reports from April/May 2020 - it's not helpful spreading false information

Shitzngiggles · 20/01/2021 12:23

OP where are these reports about lockdown till June. No one else seems to have seen them.

Shitzngiggles · 20/01/2021 12:24

@user7778 Cross post.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/01/2021 12:31

Just a small thought, but perhaps part of the problem was investing so much hope in the vaccines in the first place? After all, with the exception of smallpox they're never eradicated any other virus so why this one?

And yes, I realise it's not supposed to be about eradication but "reducing the stress on the NHS" - however, between the choice to ignore manufacturers' guidelines and the general incompetence, even that's just a case of hoping it'll somehow work

As a PP said it's very clear this can't continue indefinitely, so my money's on governments eventually starting to count the numbers "differently" and seeing how that goes

MaxNormal · 20/01/2021 12:36

@TwelvePaws what views are those then, care to explain what I've expressed that is so heinous?

afternooncuppa · 20/01/2021 12:50

@BettyAndVeronica

There is only so long people will comply with this set up.
Exactly. Have a look at Italy and Poland. Businesses have decided enough is enough and are returning to normal en- masse against Government advice. It baffles me that people do not realise that this will eventually be the inevitable reality. A lock-down and restrictions with no end is not realistic, logical or doable. And, as said before, the complete and utter destruction of the economy, education, society and being human is NOT sustainable no matter what anyone says.
shinynewapple2021 · 20/01/2021 13:03

Where have you seen this ?

Littlewhitedove2 · 20/01/2021 13:07

@Icanseegreenshoots

I agree op!!

I am looking at things another way now, even if there is a mutant strain that kills off the vaccine roll out that will not stop us folks, Covid works in cycles, so we are in the mid cycle of hell now but it will naturally recede, and when it does we will be given our allocated patch of freedom until the next wave comes.

In that time people will learn to cram in ten months of fun into two.

It is not ideal, but in the worst case scenario we will have to take our kicks when we can, and people will learn to not care about covid in the way they clearly do now. We will reach peak indifference.

You think that for 10 months of every year people are not going to see family, meet new partners or go to shops (there won’t be any shops and the uk will be a bleak landscape?)
shinynewapple2021 · 20/01/2021 13:07

I cannot see any news report suggesting that there will be lockdown until June ?

And, TBF, this would not be announced in the middle of January .

Agree with others saying it's not helpful to wind people up in this way .

OP posts:
Florelei · 20/01/2021 13:09

I dont have an agenda other than feeling tipped over the edge today.

OP posts:
Littlewhitedove2 · 20/01/2021 13:11

One day this will end and in future years we will realise how much worse the long term implications of these restrictions have been

OwMyNeck · 20/01/2021 13:13

One day this will end and in future years we will realise how much worse the long term implications of these restrictions have been

Or more likely we will look back and realise how much worse it would have been without restrictions.

whatswithtodaytoday · 20/01/2021 13:14
  1. It's the Daily Mail. Surely you know not to believe a word they write?

  2. It says restrictions into June, not lockdown.

psychomath · 20/01/2021 13:14

The article says 'restrictions' could last into June, not lockdown. Totally differnt thing!

LetItGoGo · 20/01/2021 13:15

Sensational clickbait.

Yes there are reconfiguration s happening at the vaccine plants so they can produce more in s few weeks. By which time the big hubs will be jabbing folk like a well oiled machine.

There , I'll never make a journalist because all my stories would be boring.
