Doom and gloom. ENDLESS

Florelei · 20/01/2021 10:07

I have had enough of all this doom. Just when you think there might be a bit of hope you see headlines such as ‘the vaccine won’t work’ ‘mutant strains’ and what has actually TIPPED ME OVER THE EDGE TODAY ‘lockdown until June’

WHAT ON EARTH.

How can we be locked in our homes and isolated for six months when we are vaccinating over 200k a day AND lots more are getting immunity through recovery from infection.

I understand things are bad and I have always done everything I can to protect the vulnerable but seriously we can’t be locked in our homes until June can we?

Can anyone talk some sense into me please because I feel like going into my garden and lying on my lawn screaming.

OP posts:
tatutata · 20/01/2021 10:41

With you there, its utter bullshit I want to at least book a holiday to Greece in summer but the insurance makes it sound like they won't cover covid cancellation if lockdowns are in force when booking.

tatutata · 20/01/2021 10:42

@Lucieintheskye maybe because we can't prevent all deaths and we can't live like this any more?

MorrisZapp · 20/01/2021 10:47

@Lucieintheskye

Why is it only the working age that matter? What about older people? Even 50+ bracket is at risk and has high death rate. Why have we become so desensitised to people dying that it's now 'okay' that 'only' a few hundred people have died?

Fuck right off with your complaining about being isolated. You're not actually locked in your house, you have internet and a device, you are fine. No wonder the mental health crisis is getting worse when people like you exaggerate so much.

People in prison have access to devices and outside spaces to walk in. What they don't have is freedom, and nor do any of us in lockdown.

No, YOU fuck off with your sanctimony. I am drowning.
MaxNormal · 20/01/2021 10:48

So SICK of this being trotted out. A year in and you still don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

And I am so sick of people being berated for having these thoughts which are, under the circumstances, perfectly understandable.
There's a terrible tendency to go on the attack and call people stupid if they don't go along with Rightthink.

The lockdown is a huge, extreme thing to undertake and it's totally understandable that people will question it and wonder if it's worth it.

MaxNormal · 20/01/2021 10:49

Fuck right off with your complaining about being isolated.

You fuck right off with your callous crap.

BettyAndVeronica · 20/01/2021 10:51

There is only so long people will comply with this set up.

herecomesthsun · 20/01/2021 10:53

We don't know what will happen exactly, We can't. There's not much point in speculating about the time frame, it's likely to make us feel depressed to be honest.

But we have several vaccines, so there is hope.

We also have some very good scientists, whom I trust.

I am taking one day at a time. It will be spring soon

PandemicPalava · 20/01/2021 10:54

It's not about who dies though, if we had unlimited hospital beds I'm sure herd immunity would have been rolled out, it's about maintaining a functioning NHS in all areas. Opening up = overloaded NHS even if the percentage of people dying is low

Sandsnake · 20/01/2021 10:54

I’ve been very compliant throughout. I’ve cancelled my Christmas plans, homeschooled my child and avoided seeing parents. I’ve so far even refrained from creating an under one support bubble as I thought I can cope without and I want to do my bit (absolutely zero judgement on anyone who does have a bubble though). But fairly soon I think I will be meeting grandparents outside again. They are missing my children hugely and us them, plus baby DD really needs to get to know them better for when they’re looking after her when I go back to work. I’m also going to be travelling a few miles to drive for exercise soon I think. We’re all so bored and I don’t think it will be any extra risk.

User133847 · 20/01/2021 10:56

@secretllama

I'll be having a friend or 2 at my house for a wine or 10 in March, regardless of what I'm allowed. I honestly don't give a fuck anymore, I cant live my life with no social interaction indefinitely or I will end up suicidal. Call me selfish all you want, or spout some shit about zoom calls or walks in the pissing rain being adequate but after a year of this I just can't do it anymore. People are at breaking point.
I think that 12th month mark (late March into Easter) will be many people's tipping point.
TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/01/2021 10:57

At this rate we will all be building 'dens' under the table with ample supplies of junk food and copious amounts of drink, and emerge with cave woman legs and armpit hair down to our fat bums.

I'm already there, my friend.

MarshaBradyo · 20/01/2021 11:01

Trouble is the stuff I want for dc isn’t a choice. It’s not open in any way
lightand · 20/01/2021 11:07

In my opinion, and dont quote me on this, I think things will start to open a bit at Easter.
MPs do love their holidays.

YukoandHiro · 20/01/2021 11:08

Read the thread "Wardrobes DH ICU".

It's a small proportion of the working age population, but you honestly don't know if it could be you or your family member (I don't mean ageing parents).

Honestly I'm utterly miserable too and have a pre schooler and a 3 month old baby at home. I want this to end asap. I'm exhausted. But the idea of going through what the poster on the above thread is facing is so much worse. So I'm just trying to take each hour by hour.

It sucks. Hang in there OP.

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/01/2021 11:09

I am not callous. I cannot stop living indefinitely to protect those that have already lived their life. Most people dying are end of life. My duty is towards my children, feeding, socialising, educating them and making sure they have a roof over their head. People die every day and that will not stop if I hide away at home.

More people will die this year from hunger. The cure is food. So unless you donate every spare penny to others you are a hypocrite.

Shitzngiggles · 20/01/2021 11:11

I haven't seen any headlines like that. I really doubt we will still be in lockdown in June, but thats just my opinion.

Icanseegreenshoots · 20/01/2021 11:13

I agree op!!

I am looking at things another way now, even if there is a mutant strain that kills off the vaccine roll out that will not stop us folks, Covid works in cycles, so we are in the mid cycle of hell now but it will naturally recede, and when it does we will be given our allocated patch of freedom until the next wave comes.

In that time people will learn to cram in ten months of fun into two.

It is not ideal, but in the worst case scenario we will have to take our kicks when we can, and people will learn to not care about covid in the way they clearly do now. We will reach peak indifference.

GlacindaTheTroll · 20/01/2021 11:14

@Nousernamesleftatall

In the current situation of Alert 5, and formal Critical Incident in some places. you and your DC stand the real chance of no safe health care (or worst case, no timely health care at all) if you have an RTA or other accident, need your appendix out, find a lump, or whatever.

It staggers me that people still don't realise how crucial it is to avoid NHS being overwhelmed, and that the current lockdown is very much about averting that catastrophe (which wouid make much of what has gone before a walk in the park)

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/01/2021 11:15

Oh and look at Sweden. Very few restrictions with a death rate less than the U.K. Locking up millions of healthy people who are no risk to the virus is madness. Divert the billions to protecting the vulnerable and move on.

southeastdweller · 20/01/2021 11:16

After this lockdown ends, I expect we’ll be in tiers until sometime in 2022.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 20/01/2021 11:17

JUNE!! WTF! I haven't seen a single family member since February last year. I live on my own.

Nousernamesleftatall · 20/01/2021 11:18

@glacindathetroll

My local hospitals are fine actually and always have been

If yours are not is it because more beds are in use than last year or because staff are self isolating/off sick? Tell me your trust I can look it up for you to compare bed/ICU stats to last year.

islockdownoveryet · 20/01/2021 11:20

Definitely the weather isn’t helping, I think January is bad anyway even if life was normal .
I’ve felt down this week in fact I think yesterday was my worst day .
Today feeling more positive I’ve done online exercise and I’ve planned a couple of little jobs to do .
You just do what you need to do to get through this , I think we will have goods days and bad days .
We are turning a corner I suppose we can’t be too complacent because we don’t want everyone to start mixing again now they’ve had the vaccine . I think things are more positive than 2 weeks ago so I’m another 2 weeks it will be even more positive.

shamalidacdak · 20/01/2021 11:21

@Ellieboolou33

I feel the same, I've become desensitised to it all now. The cure is worse than the disease and I'm sick of it all.

I know this will sound extremely callous but I can no longer feel outraged by another 97 year old dying, if you've made it to your 80's then you've had a good innings, no one lives forever. We have to get some perspective.

Bloody hell!
