@lockeddownandcrazy

Assuming he left his front door on his bicycle he is staying local. A lot of places have exercise from your front door as the criteria - ie cannot drive to get there.
It doesn’t matter about whether he started at the front door.

This is England. It is irrelevant what other countries do. He did nothing wrong here.

chomalungma · 11/01/2021 16:37

He shouldn't be fined as he has not broken the law.

But Hancock and Patel need to have a word with him because he has broken 'in their words' the spirit of the guidelines.

I think it's fine though.

Crowncan · 11/01/2021 16:51

His bike ride was exercise that (presumably) started at his front door and ended back there. He was exercising the whole time rather than travelling somewhere else to exercise because he wanted to go somewhere pretty or chat to his mate or drink a cup of coffee while doing it. How can these be compared?

yearinyearout · 11/01/2021 17:03

Difference between Boris and those women (and I’m not saying they should have been fined), is they drove 5 miles, then got out of their cars and went and got coffees before starting their “exercise”!

Well it's fine to take a coffee on a walk and it's also fine to drive five miles to the start of the walk. And you have no idea how far they walked or planned to walk either, so no need for the inverted commas.

AppleKatie · 11/01/2021 17:23

If takeaway coffee is allowed but not in your opinion in conjunction with exercise- when are people in your opinion allowed to buy them?

MyBossIsATwat · 11/01/2021 17:26

It’s fascinating how many people have decided that I think he should be fined and insulted me for it.

I don’t think he should be fined, I posted this to make a point about how other people have been unfairly fined for doing something similar.

I do understand there’s a lot of rage out there and it can feel good to get some of it out, but maybe make sure you’re directing it at someone that deserves it.

I do think it’s funny that’s he’s done the mumsnet classic thing of commenting on the amount of people out and about when he’s one of them.

Boris is useless. Hate him and everything he has done.

But
A 7 mile Much at all. If I cycle (ok in countryside due to where I live) it is typically a 20-30mile round trip.

I think this is a pretty crap news story. Cycling is permitted. An hour of exercise is the suggested maximum. 7 miles is well within those parameters.

WankPuffins · 11/01/2021 17:42

Ha!!

Matt Hancock just causally mentioned that if your exercise took you 7 miles away from home (and then "perhaps on a bike ride") then that was okay 😂😂😂

Fucking hell. They are a joke. But they had to get that one in there after Boris and his little bike jaunt, didn't they?

What a shower of shit they are.

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2021 17:44

To be fair to him, that was exactly what the reporter asked him about.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/01/2021 17:44

The journalist mentioned 7 miles first

puffinkoala · 11/01/2021 17:46

I think it's fine.

Look people. We know obesity is a risk factor for bad outcomes. So we should be encouraging people to do as much exercise as they can and lose as much weight as they reasonably need to.

All we need is some sort of sensible distance requirement to stop people travelling to the national parks or beaches from 100 miles away.

WankPuffins · 11/01/2021 17:46

Fair enough.

I only heard that bit and it did make me laugh.

Especially as I've read some utterly outraged posts about Boris and his bike on my local Facebook.

It was almost pitchforks at dawn.

MyBossIsATwat · 11/01/2021 17:51

@Tootsee

Don’t be so ridiculous, are you just looking for another excuse to get at the PM? Perhaps you should substitute your ”Boss” for yourself! Confused
You think I should change my username to ‘MyTwatIsATwat’? Honestly I feel like that’s just a bit silly.

Or are you saying that I should replace my boss? If you are then thank you, I agree I’d do a much better job.

Nobody has been fined for going for a bike ride from their home.
notimagain · 11/01/2021 17:55

Some of these comments show people have a zero understanding of exercise. I am a distance runner and 7-10 miles is an average run for for me I’m not going to spend the next few months doing laps of my street!

I wouldn't fancy it but where there's a will and where the law is codified and enforced.....

eddiemairswife · 11/01/2021 18:03

I thought I read a few weeks ago that he was given access to Buckingham Palace grounds in order to exercise.

Tootsee · 11/01/2021 18:36

“You think I should change my username to ‘MyTwatIsATwat’? Honestly I feel like that’s just a bit silly.”
Not at all what I was saying. Substitute for “Boss” in your case is not “Twat”, unless that is your real name? Think about it!

“Or are you saying that I should replace my boss? If you are then thank you, I agree I’d do a much better job.”
If this post is a true example of how you think, I sincerely hope that your boss is capable of doing a much better job than you! If not, I despair!!

jasjas1973 · 11/01/2021 18:55

Govt ministers and Prof Chris Whitty are all saying STAY HOME, PROTECT the NHS, SAVE LIVES.

His one off cycle ride will not make the slightest difference to his obesity but it will encourage others to go out and about now... i suspect thats why he did it, he is keen on herd immunity.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/01/2021 18:59

@jasjas1973 but they are encouraging exercise

I am no Boris fan is anyone? but that's daft. He has lost a noticeable amount of weight since he realised his being fat was what probably made his Covid worse. And everyone knows he likes bikes and cycling. Hell, even the PM needs a bit of bloody down time Hmm even if he is a prick.

wanderings · 11/01/2021 19:04

He's probably reading Mumsnet and thinking "yep, that's my day's work done, I've got the plebs frothing... after all, there's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about."

MyBossIsATwat · 11/01/2021 19:06

Oh my god.

It was supposed to be a lighthearted way of saying that there’s no need to over complicate things, if you want to call me a twat then just say it. Because otherwise there’s too much room for misunderstanding. To clarify, I didn’t think there was even a slight chance you were actually commenting on my ability to do my boss’s job either.

It was funny in my head but evidently didn’t translate well to the written word. Oh well.

Chris Whitty was talking about the importance of going out to exercise this morning.

He is as fat now as he ever was.
Does he like cycling? he had some hair brained Boris bikes thing as a Mayor but that was it.... he says he makes buses as a hobby, not a keep fit Mamil.

The guidelines are stay local, meaning your village, your town or your party of the city you live in.

wintertravel1980 · 11/01/2021 19:39

The Derbyshire police has removed the fine and apologised to the two women. I guess it settles the debate - it is OK to drive / bike / walk for 7 miles:
