Should Boris Johnson be fined for not staying local to exercise?

@Em777

Just read that his father has already had both doses of the vaccine too.
The three elderly people closest to me - all in their 80's - have also all had both doses. Don't quite get why people keep trying to make a thing out of this. Hmm
Sunnydayhere · 11/01/2021 15:23

7 miles is about twice the distance from an area that I’d be turned away from should I visit.

Should he be prosecuted? Well how many others with him? Did he have a drink - this would mean he was on a picnic.

Joking apart - he would do well to set an example.

badpuma · 11/01/2021 15:25

I'm sorry, I was on the app which skipped.

However, saying they broke the rules is still inaccurate. Guidance is not rules, and they didn't even break the guidance which requires people to stay local. For the majority of people 5 miles is local, especially when it isn't defined.

hamstersarse · 11/01/2021 15:25

I worry that people like OP live amongst us.

For a start if you have been anywhere near a bike you would know that 7 miles is not very far at all. But more than that, just stop. Stop with all your hystericals. Someone who has already had coronavirus, cycling on his own, outside, poses no risk at all to anyone. And never will.

peak2021 · 11/01/2021 15:25

If he cycled all the way from Downing Street, no. The point I have made is that exercise I think should be accessed by walking or cycling.

badpuma · 11/01/2021 15:27

"Joking apart - he would do well to set an example."

Arguably, he's setting an example that exercise is good. Something many people could usefully benefit from.

eddiemairswife · 11/01/2021 15:28

I'm more interested in his 'security detail'. How many? Do they all have bikes? If not, does the Government provide them? What if they've never learnt to ride a bike?

hamstersarse · 11/01/2021 15:28

@sashagabadon

It’s like deja vu back to March again on here. I hope all these people posting about others doing this and that have all volunteered to be vaccination Marshalls , that’ll keep you busy
These people really do need some purpose and meaning in their lives.

I genuinely pity their pettiness and obvious projections.

jasjas1973 · 11/01/2021 15:29

Boris "Flexed the rules" and according to Hancock, he has caused someone's death, both Matt Hancock and Priti Patel fully support the Police in taking robust action.

Elsewhere West Mercia Police issued warning over those looking to take advantage of the recent snowfall in the area

In a tweet the force told residents across Shropshire that having a snowball fight was “obviously not a justifiable reason to be out of your house”, adding that such actions would be “likely to result”; in a £200 fine

everydaygreen · 11/01/2021 15:30

@bigbluebus

I'm more concerned about why he's travelled to Bristol to visit a vaccination clinic whilst telling everyone to work from home and not to go out unnecessarily or travel outside of your local area. I know it's 'work' but it wasn't a necessary journey.
AGREE !!

A 1 hour long photo shoot at a vaccine centre is not essential , I'm sure he didn't drive himself there so I can only imagine the entourage he also bought along.

Impatiens · 11/01/2021 15:32

And why is that important. Lots of other people his age have

They haven't, that's the point. They've had the first dose and are now left waiting, like my Mum.

bigbluebus · 11/01/2021 15:34

@Unsure33 Just because he's had it doesn't mean that he can't carry it and transmit it to others. And I don't think anyone would be justified in complaining about him staying in London in the current crisis - no one should be moving out of their locality.

theThreeofWeevils · 11/01/2021 15:36

he looks totally fucked and haunted

Good. He should be haunted. 'Fucked', it depends in which sense.

But his cycling was not breaking the law. (Being nippy on a bike is probably quite an important skill for a serial adulterer.)

Really?

We're in the middle of a pandemic - haven't you got more to think about than a guy - who like him or not, is under a great deal of pressure - taking some exercise?

oneglassandpuzzled · 11/01/2021 15:36

@Em777

Just read that his father has already had both doses of the vaccine too.
So's my mother, 82. Most of her friends who are that age and who had already had one Pfizer dose before Christmas got the second one as originally booked.

So has my mum - some places have.
ConquestEmpireHungerPlague · 11/01/2021 15:37

I detest him but actually would defend him over this. He's the PM fgs and can't exactly cycle up and down Whitehall or do laps of Parliament Square without causing a major security issue. If his security detail reckoned Olympic Park was an acceptable location for his daily exercise then that's fair enough imo. But I don't think the women in Derbyshire did anything wrong either. To my mind, if they want to dish out fines, then they need to define what is allowed and what isn't. I also heard today that combining exercise with meeting up for social reasons is unacceptable and thought that was ridiculous too - as if only those who hate every second of their lonely exercise are keeping Covid at bay somehow. If you're allowed to meet one other person for exercise, then making it someone you couldn't otherwise see seems to me like it could be a sanity saver for some. Where I would draw the line is if you have to do something that carries unnecessary Covid risk to facilitate such an arrangement, e.g. taking public transport to meet your friend for a walk/run/bike ride etc.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/01/2021 15:37

I loathe Johnson as much as it's possible to loathe someone

And I don't think he did anything wrong Hmm - London is the local area - 7 miles is fuck all when you're cycling

I walked 5 miles last week in one afternoon and all I did was walk round my local park (Greenwich)

ClaireP20 · 11/01/2021 15:37

No, lots of people who have pfizer before Christmas are having second jab. My mum has.

@Em777

So what? DS2 and DDIL are going for their second doses at 5.30pm.
theThreeofWeevils · 11/01/2021 15:41

lots of people who have pfizer before Christmas are having second jab. My mum has
And mine has not. Ain't anecdata useful?

IfTheSockFits · 11/01/2021 15:42

No. Neither Boris nor anyone else should be fined for cycling a few miles. Don't be so ridiculous.

RiverSkater · 11/01/2021 15:42

He's overweight isn't he? I'd say I'm glad to see him sticking to one pledge in his life: to look after his health after his own Covid experience.

TibetanTerrier · 11/01/2021 15:43

@PurpleDaisies
"Stay local means stay in the village, town or part of the city where you live."

That is open to interpretation.

Only to someone deliberately trying not to comply. It's perfectly clear to any averagely intelligent person.
