1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

@FourTeaFallOut why else do you think we are having this massive vaccination programme and we are all locked down? To stop people getting mild cold like symptoms? It is to stop people getting severely ill, becoming hospitalised or dying.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 22:11

I was being sarcastic. Grin

louisejxxx · 14/01/2021 22:17

Vague vaccination data for today just mentioned on BBC news but the gov.uk data still not updated. Apparently we’re upto 2,918,252 vaccinated now which is an increase of about 279k from yesterday ShockStar

PrincessNutNuts · 14/01/2021 22:18

Well, ok, it seems we have different views about the facts of the matter regarding these being two dose vaccines...

But look, the Guardian have a chart that they say they update daily to track the progress.

You can see the 21% of the population/first 4 priority groups which is the government's first target and watch them work towards it every day of the next month.

Progress, moving forward, ramping up and all those good and positive things. Smile

I guess I'm commenting as someone with a very good grasp of statistics who chooses to look at this aspect of the pandemic with rose tinted glasses to stop myself sinking entirely. As a shielding person my selfish first interest is to be protected enough to be able to go and buy a loaf of bread.

Blessex · 14/01/2021 22:22

@FourTeaFallOut ahhhh sorry ! I always struggle to pick up the sarcasm because people do write odd things sometimes Grin.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/01/2021 22:22

Shielding here too. It might be the cabin fever kicking in by I'm all about the rose tinted beer goggles.

Blessex · 14/01/2021 22:23

@louisejxxx oooo that’s great news!!! I have been struggling to find the numbers so thanks for that. And @FourTeaFallOut sorry again !

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 22:27

Sorry if someone has already posted this. My favourite graph at the moment. Showing why the priority list is so important.

@PrincessNutNuts the director of the study of the Oxford vaccine herself said that the study showed that one jab gave 100% protection against severe illness and hospitalisation. Over 60% of people developed no symptoms at all. The second dose is for protection longevity and a small increment of not developing any symptoms at all. It is facts like that I choose to follow and why the experts have chosen the 12 week interval.

That is 4% of the UK population that is now vaccinated. It says at the bottom of the graph
Blessex · 14/01/2021 22:35

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum love that chart. Hadn’t seen that. That is the graph of diminishing returns. Gives me so much hope.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 22:36

We will eventually vaccinate around 37 million people apparently.

A poster worked it out. 65 million, take off kids under 16, allow for 70% take up extra.

So as we have now done around 3 million. We have 34 million to go.

The government should be hitting 2 million a week soon and are planning to up that to 3.5 million.

Are current rate standing now though means first doses for all 9 priority groups done by end of April.

Blessex · 14/01/2021 22:43

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum it may take a little longer because of second jabs. But that is amazing and is going some! So proud of how this country pulls together when really needed.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 22:48

I know it may not all pan out as quickly but I choose to live with hope and the odd statistic Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/01/2021 22:56

Looking at the Princess graph the first priority groups is 21% of the population.

We have done 4% already. So only 17% to goSmile

MaddieElla · 15/01/2021 00:05

It's an insult to everyone working tirelessly to get jabs in arms to constantly try and diminish what's happening. Mostly to slate the government.

What we are doing is something to be proud of whichever way you look at it.

starfro · 15/01/2021 00:09

Already the current vaccinations should lead to a 33% reduction in death, after 2-3 weeks for the vaccine to take effect.

This increases to 50% only a week later at the current vaccination rate.

Click on your own group. It says Notes and then read that. It says total UK population to have received vaccine etc

London1977 · 15/01/2021 00:37

I agree OP, it's really fantastic news, the government (and the army, NHS, community nurses etc) are doing a Brill job of rolling it out.

London1977 · 15/01/2021 00:43

@Lucidas

Ideally the dashboard would also display how many people have had both doses and acquired full immunity.

You can easily foresee a situation in four months where hordes of vulnerable people still haven’t had their second dose and we don’t how much immunity they now have (20%? 30%?). Either due to not enough capacity, or because we’ve used up all our Pfizer vaccine on first doses, so the only choices are to leave them with only one dose, or top up with a different vaccine (eg Astrazeneca), which they’ve already signalled they would be willing to do, and which is completely unproven as a strategy.

I don’t trust the government not to fuck up this rollout long term, like they have everything else in this pandemic.

Oh you had to come on this upbeat thread and winge didn't you?! (Tories..blah..blah...not enough capacity..blah..blah...never reach the numbers..moan..)
PrincessNutNuts · 15/01/2021 00:57

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

It says

"Note: Total % of UK population to have received a first and second dose of the vaccine. Data: data.gov.uk, updated 13 January, 2021"

And on the graph it says 4.0% first dose, 0.6% second dose.

How do facts diminish anything?
psychomath · 15/01/2021 01:10

@buttery81

Claxon.... we have now vaccinated 2,639,309 up to and including 12 January 2021.

Source: coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

That’s 207,661 more jabs than the 11th January figure. I would like to revise my guess of 3 million by Friday afternoon to 3 million by Thursday evening! Grin

Government dashboard says 2,918,252 - you were close!
