1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!
@RedToothBrush the alternative is that we are choosing the hardest group to vaccinate first. They are less mobile and many will need visiting at home and in care homes. It will race along faster soon at the mass centres.
Also agree with this - the oldest people and some people who are shielding because of severe disabilities are surely going to be the most difficult to reach, so once they've been done it should go faster for others.

I'm more than happy to support a thread that can be accused of over-optimism. The rest of MN is a sea of negativity, bitterness, anger and nastiness. It's a welcome relief.

More on the 500k jabs a day that breaks the Omni calculator.

This is interesting...

*The 16-page document was initially published online on Wednesday evening, but was swiftly removed.

Ministers are concerned that spelling out the amount of doses which have been obtained will lead other countries to pressurise the manufacturers to divert some of the supplies away from the UK.*

Anyway, great news about the total number of vaccines yesterday, I think I must have had the England only figure.

buttery81 · 15/01/2021 07:17

There is a lot of common sense prevailing at vaccination sites. Any leftover vaccines are all used, either for staff or for accompanying people. In this area, anyway. And first hand experience of it today.

This is very heartening!

Oh, sorry, I put all this on the wrong thread. Just ignore it princessnutsnuts, you'll hate it.

buttery81 · 15/01/2021 07:32

Expectation management is needed to stop others from having hopes dashed at a later stage too though. It works in two ways.

It would be helpful if there was a degree of realism going on rather than either extreme of overly optimistic and overly pessimistic.

@RedToothBrush I don’t think we need any “expectation management” on this thread, but thanks anyway!

This!

Government dashboard says 2,918,252 - you were close!

Almost 3 million - excellent news! Grin

What’s also great is that 278,943 people were vaccinated on Wednesday, according to the government dashboard. If we could sustain that level, we’d be vaccinating a million people every 3.6 days!

@FourTeaFallOut interesting article. Would be a bloody disaster if NS and her party in her effort to undermine everything the U.K. is doing in general actually managed it when it really matters.

That’s great news and bang on target - we need 2.9 million per week (according to my back of the fag packet calculations) to hit the February goal of the 4 priority groups and all of the vaccination hubs are not yet up and running.

Full credit to the NHS staff and military logistics teams for getting this rolling.

WetJan · 15/01/2021 09:26

BAM. Another one done Grin

buttery81 · 15/01/2021 09:31

@CaveMum I think we need to increase to 350,000 people per day to hit the mid February target.

If we’ve vaccinated 2,918,252 up to and including 13th January, that leaves 10,981,748 to do by 14th February. There’s 32 days until then, which means we need to be vaccinating 343,000 people per day from now (well, from yesterday actually - and we don’t have yesterday’s figure yet) to hit the target. The numbers of people vaccinated are ramping up daily though - it’s been:

Monday: 145,076
Tuesday: 207,661
Wednesday: 278,943

So I’m optimistic we will get there!

OP posts:
CaveMum · 15/01/2021 11:09

@buttery81 ah yes of course, I think I did those calculations earlier this week and we’ve only just started ramping up to close to the daily target figure.

Fingers crossed with more venues coming online and extended hours those numbers will surpass the target so that we can comfortably rget to where we need to.

buttery81 · 15/01/2021 16:22

Big news... we’re over 3 million!!!!

3,234,946 have now been vaccinated, up to and including 14 January.

A total of 316,694 people were vaccinated yesterday. Hurrah! Grin

Thanks OP.

PrincessNutNuts · 15/01/2021 16:29

Updated graph.

0.7% vaccinated

4.8% have had their first dose.

1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
CaveMum · 15/01/2021 16:31

That’s fantastic!

lunar1 · 15/01/2021 16:36

Brilliant news

FourTeaFallOut · 15/01/2021 16:40

Awesome, such a boost to watch the figures rise so significantly each day.

CaveMum · 15/01/2021 16:51

To steal @Mumoftwoinprimary formatting from earlier in the thread:

316,694 in one day
Assuming most hubs are operating 14 hour days (I’m sure I read they were trying to open 8am-10pm), that’s:
22,621 every hour
377 every minute
6.28 every second!

Amazing work!

picklemewalnuts · 15/01/2021 16:58

Does anyone know why Wales is so far behind on this?

buttery81 · 15/01/2021 17:11

6.28 every second!

Incredible!!

OP posts:
Mumoftwoinprimary · 15/01/2021 18:39

2,918,252 vaccinated by the end of Wednesday means 81,748 left to vaccinate to get to 3 million.

316,694 yesterday means that we hit 3 million about 25.8% of the way through the day. Hubs open 8am - 8pm on average so 12 hours. So hit 3 million 3 hours and 6 minutes into the day. So at 11:06am.

And the winner of the 3 million sweepstake is......

NOONE!!!!

None of us bet on Thursday mid - morning. Someone suggested Thursday lunchtime but the rest of us were later.

Believe it or not - this thread is full of pessimists! Grin

Frazzled2207 · 15/01/2021 18:43

@PrincessNutNuts
Thinking about that graph, there is a difference between vaccines offered and taken isn’t there. What I mean is presumably there is a sizeable number saying no. Or can’t be reached. Which is worrying but helps government hit the target quicker than they would do if everyone accepted.

Absolutely.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/01/2021 18:48

I mean, really we should insist that the government pin the elderly down and demand they have the vaccine so they don't fuck up the figures.
