Did all this stem from a bat

Just that really. Did all this really stem from someone eating a bat in China

OP posts:

LindyLou2020 remembering always that we're talking of China's communist totalitarian regime rather than its people, I'm not sure how we could begin to "hold them accountable" when that's simply not something they'd wish to cooperate with?

After all many other nations are already in hock to their regime financially, and there's also the point that they have a pretty powerful "friend" in the form of Russia

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/01/2021 17:16

I think it's safe to say it's been around for a lot longer than they have let on as well given samples tested in Europe have found it dated back to the end of 2019

Funny, it used ti make posters so angry on other threads anyone who said they thought they had it earlier or that it was around earlier than feb/March had their arses handed to them completely. Then they traced it back at least as far as January to a man who had never been out the country.

We were all really ropey where I work back in December 2019 aswell. With symptoms not unlike covid. Course it could have been a million other things too but strangely not so many people are as adamant it can't possibly have been here now.

Lockdownbear · 06/01/2021 17:30

China must already have mass immunised and had the vaccine long ago for their country to be how it is now. But they just hid it from the world

I certainly believe that China has been vaccinating for months. A friend has family in China who were vaccinated months ago. I also read a university worker on here saying students returned from China in autumn having been vaccinated.

Is that they didn't do as rigorous trials, or did they have inside knowledge? I suspect they didn't have as many trials.

frasersmummy · 06/01/2021 17:43

I think the virus escaped from the lab in wuhan by accident .. Ive said that from day 1.
Now based on no scientific knowledge but looking at the pictures there compared to the rest of the world and the fact they wont let the who in I do think they have a working vaccine.
I think they managed to get a vaccine quicker because someone knew exactly what walked out of the lab and therefore they had so much more knowledge to work with

LacyEdge · 06/01/2021 17:59

Is it because China is a so-called superpower, we buy so much of their stuff, and basically we are frightened of its government?

That’d be my guess.

If you read my post properly, you will see that I made it perfectly clear that I was referring to the Chinese government, not the Chinese people. I'm not sure how you failed to pick up on that. I also made it clear that I'm just a "little person" - I don't know what reparation or sanctions could be applied. I was just asking the question as to whether any other people thought that some action should be taken at some point, that's all. And of course China would not wish to cooperate - it is already trying to block the WHO investigation! And your final paragraph surely emphasises what I meant about the rest of the world buying so much of their stuff, (ok, that's putting things in very simple terms), and being afraid of them? For these reasons I doubt very much that any action will be taken at all anyway.

I can't decide whether it's the fact that she "said that from day 1" or the statement, "Now based on no scientific knowledge" that makes me think that, more than any poster who referred to a published piece of research, frasersmummy is probably right on the money. Hmm
PicsInRed · 06/01/2021 18:23

IMO it was a lab fuck up.

They had the virus sequenced suspiciously quickly after it was "discovered". They basically covered it up, ensured they weren't the only ones fucked over by stopping internal travel from Wuhan but continuing to allow outbound flights (thanks guys) and having the WHO emphasise open borders (thanks guys) then gave us the sequencing as a "good turn" in the hope we wouldn't all get pissed off and close our wallets. Hmm

That is exactly the point I made on page 3, using the same words!
Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/01/2021 19:46

LindyLou2020 believe me I did pick up that you were referring to the regime rather than the population ... I only repeated it in my response because I find on here that every single post requires it if you want to avoid being leapt upon instantly

So actually I was fully agreeing with you, but apologies if I gave the wrong impression

Spiratedaway · 06/01/2021 20:09

Lab I think accidentally.... nurses and doctors spoken to said the same and never seen anything like it... if China just admitted yes was an accident and try to help other countries maybe would be better but they don't and just blame it on innocent citizens !!! The CCP are vile

Dragongirl10 · 06/01/2021 20:11

For months now l have been wondering where the anger at the Chinese government is.....

From all that l have read l am fairly convinced that it came from a Lab accidentally...

but that begs the question, why is this research happening? To be ahead of the game with vaccines just in case?
Unlikely when there are hundreds of viruses....who knows which may find its way into the human population.

Which leaves more sinister options.. why would any country do exceptionally risky research on a species found far from humans, but known to carry many viruses deadly to humans.?

I am sure the facts will eventually come to light.

Either way the Chinese Government covered up the dangers of Covid allowing the spread to other countries unchecked until it was too late to shut down and protect the populations.

To think about the sheer scale of deaths, financial devastation, loss of livelihoods and so much more worldwide, is overwhelming.

Yet the silence is deafening.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/01/2021 20:39

The CCP are vile

Well yes - for the latest examples just look at what's happening in Hong Kong

But they've got a long history of tolerating absolutely no dissent at all, so they're hardly going to relax their stance for us

This is what I was getting at in my first post on page 3. SHOULD the world "punish" (for want of a better word) China? If yes, how? If not, why not? Or will the world do f**k all about it?
Suzi888 · 06/01/2021 21:22

“Also, the Chinese don't eat live animals”
you are aware of the Yulin dog meat festival? Dogs, boiled alive etc. Have you ever walked through a market in China or eaten in a local restaurant. Hmm

The whole covid situation reminds me of the film contagion! It either came form the wet market or someone, somewhere dropped a test tube! We will probably never know.

Aprilrainbow · 06/01/2021 21:28

We should stop buying their stuff, all the money goes to their war machine, the west bought cheep goods from Japan & Germany in the 1930's & look what happened.

Chimeraforce · 06/01/2021 21:34

May have come from a lab. The journalists and medics who tried to tell us this have disappeared. Funny that.
I'd support a 1 year embargo myself. Look at all the saps booking with "Thomas Cook" only in name🙄 they're owned by Fosun (Chinese).
Yeah, let's enrich their economy whilst they've decimated ours.
They don't even allow Who access to investigate.

trulydelicious · 06/01/2021 22:14

@safariboot

And it's easy for us with our wealth and privilege to say people shouldn't eat random animals and shouldn't have live animal markets

Aren't pangolins a delicacy in China?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/01/2021 22:26

We should stop buying their stuff

Good luck with that, given the sheer quantity which comes from there

Good luck, too, expecting Huawei to be kept out of 5G provision as promised; we'll need money to keep developing that, and when all ours is gone there aren't too many other places who'll still have any

Never mind though; I'm sure we'll be told "they'll behave honourably" - you know, just as they said about Hong Kong

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/01/2021 22:34

Aren't pangolins a delicacy in China?

They are, yes, and their scales are also valued for their use in traditional medicine

If you ever get to Beijing have a wander around one of the night food markets, where some of the choices are ... errr ... unusual

This pandemic still blows my mind , some small action , whether by someone working in the lab or someone eating a bat , has caused so much suffering affecting the whole world .

This is why I get so obsessed with it all, (unhealthy, I know), naively hope for "justice", and fearing absolutely f**k all will happen........
