That’s that then. DH’s shops can’t survive this again. My nursing work (agency) in schools is cancelled. No income, no way through this.... Fuck. (And I never swear in real life, just needed to get it out.)

It is shit
I'm so sorry

Not really reading the room there *@DuchessofDerbyshire*
Well, at least that made me laugh!

I am sorry to hear this. To echo the others, apply everywhere with fingers firmly crossed. I can't comment on your DH's situation, but I hope he will be able to restart again, when conditions are more favourable. I know a couple of talented business people who have wound up their companies because they simply could not make it work under pandemic rules, but plan to try something new when it's over.

Big hugs.

Howmanysleepsnow · 04/01/2021 21:25

Ps. Sorry, I’m clearly wallowing in self pity. I’ll find a way round this, though life may look hugely different afterwards...

Oh, and, full disclosure, DH is shit with the DC. So they’re my responsibility (in practice). Not how it should be, but how it is nonetheless, especially when their world is being turned upside down. Hence why he’s the main earner... I’m more than capable, but reduced hours to be there for them as the main parent.

I’m sorry, can your husband sell online at all? Can you try and get a covid contract doing something? Anything to bring in money for a short term.

SylvanianFrenemies · 04/01/2021 21:31

So sorry to hear this OP. Agree with the suggestions regarding bank or agency nursing, there is a huge demand right now.

Lucieintheskye · 04/01/2021 21:36

I have nothing to say that will make this better but I'm sending love and a handhold, and hope your situation works out. It's going to be rough and difficult, a lot worse for some than others, but it will get better one day. Just keep keeping on, get through each day as it comes. And don't feel bad for feeling bad, this is a completely foreign situation for everyone in the world, we don't have training for this, we don't have back up plans for this and it's okay to be worried, angry, upset, having a G&T at 10am. We're all going to be okay, it's just gonna take a little while (and some custard creams). Flowers

HelloDaisy · 04/01/2021 21:36

I am so sad for you, it really is a tough place to be.

Have a look at joining the nursing bank for camhs where you live as they will be glad of the help. My friend runs a unit and they are reliant on agency staff, even before pandemic, so I am sure would love to have you join them as you have the right experience.

HibernatingTill2030 · 04/01/2021 21:38

So sorry.
Can your agency get you work elsewhere to try to tide you over a little?

HelloDaisy · 04/01/2021 21:38

Could do nights in a camhs unit too....

MessAllOver · 04/01/2021 21:42

I am so sorry you are having such a tough time Flowers. Unfortunately we are not giving as much thought to the casualties of lockdown as we are to the casualties of Covid.

Might I ask what your DH's shops sell? Maybe cleverer people than me on here could come up with a few ideas about how you could make it work online?

Dongdingdong · 04/01/2021 21:47

We should have shut the borders..Complete mismanagement.

And if we’d closed the borders the government would have come under fire for that too, from the MN anti-Brexit brigade (there are posters on here who were anti shutting the borders last March - hopefully eating their words now).

If the govt hadn't chronically under invested, NHS would probably cope.

I don’t believe the NHS could’ve coped 10 years ago (following years of Labour government) any better than it is now. Do you?

This. It’s an absolute disgrace - enough is enough.

I don't want to be unsupportive but I do think you both need to sit down and figure out earning potential.

If yours is greater than his in the current climate, then he HAS to step up and parent. Being 'shit' isn't ok. Especially not at the moment. That may mean some uncomfortable role reversals but if it means you can get daily bank shifts/come close to earning a full time wage, it may be worth it

peasoup8 · 04/01/2021 21:55

We’ve flushed the economy down the toilet for a virus with a death rate of 0.1%. It’s total and utter madness. Flowers to you OP - I am in a very similar boat for what it’s worth. In floods of tears right now.

Brenna24 · 04/01/2021 21:56

I am so sorry. You are allowed to have a good swear and complain about this. It is crap. One of my friends who is a school nurse got coopted into doing mental health calls to people isolating during the last lockdown. I hope that track and trace/vaccinations/telephone mental health can employ you on some way.

Same here, and has been since March. It is indescribable.

Yes, but who approved of Macron closing the border before Christmas.

Dee1975 · 04/01/2021 22:02

I’m sorry op. Hope things work out for you work wise.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 04/01/2021 22:05

I took a massive pay cut to go back to the NHS in October 2019 from private medical. I've never been so glad of that decision in my entire life. All my private colleagues are now unemployed. I dont envy anyone with private businesses right now.

Seriously bad take here! How many deaths do you think there would be without lockdown? More than half a million with your death rate of 0.1%. Except the death rate would rise very quickly if we were at that level, because that death rate is with medical intervention.

Do you think a country in that sort of state would be booming?

bumblingbovine49 · 04/01/2021 22:09

I don't agree AT ALL. The NHS would have been far far better able to cope under Blair's government. I know he is unpopular but the NHS was miles better when he left government than when he started. You may not agree with everything he did ( I don't think the NHS trusts are a good idea for example) but hospitals were much much much better places to be 15 years ago than they are now.
