That’s that then. DH’s shops can’t survive this again. My nursing work (agency) in schools is cancelled. No income, no way through this.... Fuck. (And I never swear in real life, just needed to get it out.)

They are desperate for vaccinators in my area. My manager who is an RMN is doing her training this week so it may be worth looking into.

mioz · 04/01/2021 20:54

❤️ for you op x

DressingGownofDoom · 04/01/2021 20:57

You'll have no problem getting work at the moment, nurses are desperately needed in all areas. It'll be ok OP you'll get through this Thanks

PhoebeSnow · 04/01/2021 20:58

@Howmanysleepsnow

Thank you. Crying now because you have been kind... wasn’t expecting that. I know I’m being self-centred, but I’m scared. In a way the first lockdown was easier. DH spent 5 weeks trying not to die (ECV and caught covid 2 days before the shielding letter) and I suspect 3 of the kids had it too (and me!) I was too busy taking care of everyone for anything else to matter. Now, all my problems are out of my control which is much harder.
You are not being self-centred at all. It’s shit for soo many people

@Howmanysleepsnow please look into the vaccine programme, I am helping our Trust’s recruiting for this, we have mental health as well as RGN’s and also physios, paramedics etc, all training is being given to be able to vaccinate

SeldomFollowedIt · 04/01/2021 21:00

My sisters a mental health nurse, doesn’t have a lot of clinical skills at all and she was snapped up to be a vaccinator. You need to contact NHS professionals.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 21:00

I hope you can find something, maybe COVID related to tide you over but I am sure your MH skills will be required in the future if not now

TableFlowerss · 04/01/2021 21:00

I’m sorry to hear you’re one of the ‘none covid casualties’ in this fiasco. It really is so sad for so many people. So many people in crap situations and will be for the coming months. It’s hard to swallow

Blondiney · 04/01/2021 21:01

It's fucking shit and I'm sorry.

Assume neither of you qualify for the self employed grant or furlough?
Tenyearsgone · 04/01/2021 21:07

It's beyond fucking shit.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 04/01/2021 21:07

@Howmanysleepsnow as an RMN, you're more than qualified! We can give im's with our eyes closed under the most....challenging....situations! Look at NHS bank or NHSP professionals.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 04/01/2021 21:07

So sorry you're gong through this - nurses are like gold at the moment - could you sign up to do the vaccination programme - I'm sure they would welcome you with open arms.
Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/01/2021 21:11

I’m so sorry.
Where in the country are you op?
Can we help you look at options in your area?

DuchessofDerbyshire · 04/01/2021 21:12

Let's all try and be a bit more positive.

Full sympathy with people struggling financially.

But....

At least this time, we have an end in sight.

Mid Feb is 5 weeks away.

Last March we had no end in sight.

We've all done it once and we can do it again.

inquietant · 04/01/2021 21:15

Not really reading the room there @DuchessofDerbyshire

peanut2017 · 04/01/2021 21:16

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/01/2021 21:18

Honestly, I reckon they’ll snap you up. We’re in big trouble staffing wise.

78percentLindt · 04/01/2021 21:19

NHS are asking all sorts of professionals to register to do imms. They were asking groups who know about vaccinations but don't give them and offering to train them , as well as people like dentists, dental nurses If you are RMHN then you must give im injections regularly.
Give it a try!

Raccooons · 04/01/2021 21:19
@Canwecancel2020 I really wish there were... but I’m mental health so, although I’m more than capable, others are better qualified. Plus I’m only agency (NHS was impossible with 4dc and a DH who works/ worked long hours) so not likely to be used... they seem to be redeploying existing/ retired staff. I’ve looked into it though, so maybe if they’re desperate enough?
Hi OP, I'm sorry you're struggling. I work in the NHS as "bank staff" in mental health nursing. Could you perhaps contact your local mental health Trust and see whether they're accepting bank staff right now? My trust are desperate for more staff (Staffordshire), so much so that they're not even interviewing for it, just accepting you if you're qualified. If they're not accepting nurses they might accept you as a HCA / HCSW. A

On the Bank you're not on any contract and you pick and choose shifts according to your availability. I just thought I'd tell you about it in case it helps at all. Good luck xxx

oakleaffy · 04/01/2021 21:20

@Howmanysleepsnow
It is a f&cking outrage.

All to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed.

If the govt hadn't chronically under invested, NHS would probably cope.

It is bloody unfair.

The govt mismanaged the whole thing..I BET we are allowing potentially infected people to come in from South African holidays as well...A Country where the more concerning variant is rife.

We should have shut the borders..Complete mismanagement.

Howmanysleepsnow · 04/01/2021 21:20

@DuchessofDerbyshire yes, but I’d have preferred an end where we could keep the house!
We used all our savings last time round (I couldn’t work... dh refused hospital, I was terrified he’d die, couldn’t leave for a 12h shift)
I’ve found some vaccinator jobs locally now. £10ph, so way less than newly qualified nurse wage (and less than c19 swabbing roles). DH is going to open shops for delivery, so I’m hugely limited in what hours I can work (if any!) but I’ll see what they say.
School hours and nights suit me best, but school hours are out the window now...
