@the80sweregreat

Yes I know he can't go to the barber but Carrie could give his hair a trim! I know he has more on his mind to be fair. Very forceful message. Will people obey all this ? Let's hope so.
Nope. People didn't follow before, so what will change now?
itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 20:12

@Oodlenoodle12

He hasn't said how long the lockdown will last.
He did. Schools closed u til feb half term. They will be first thing open and then work down tiers.

So lockdown until March at least.

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/01/2021 20:12

Are schools closed until half term?

Yes until at least half term...

AlwaysLatte · 04/01/2021 20:12

AFTER FEB HALF TERM BEFORE SCHOOL OPEN!!!! Holy cow
I think it's more like to be after Easter...

MrsFezziwig · 04/01/2021 20:13

Schools closed and they will “hope” to open after Feb half term.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 04/01/2021 20:13

Did he say that exams for England will be cancelled or it wouldn't be fair to cancel them?

SparklyPixie · 04/01/2021 20:13

So nurseries remain open unless attached to a school ?

PurpleHoodie · 04/01/2021 20:13

Schools being shut will help a lot.
So hard on parents , although I support it personally.
I really feel for those with children that are school age :(
It is so shit.

Furries · 04/01/2021 20:14

@Furries

I hope all watching BBC right now noticed tha banner line about construction work being allowed to go ahead 😂
Oh god, I’m only halfway through the thread. I posted this in relation to the humour around the poster asking their construction neighbour to furlough.

Have now got as far as the posters genuinely asking about construction. I hope I haven’t caused any offence. That really will teach me to RTFT before posting.

CovidCarol · 04/01/2021 20:14

I'm sure Gavin is working on it as we speak ..

Oh phew, in safe hands then? WinkGrinConfused

Pebbledashery · 04/01/2021 20:15

Feel absolutely terrible for parents of primary and secondary children 😢😢😢😢😢😢.

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 20:15

Kier Starmer mentioned again about having conversation how we get schools open again.

Will it happen this time? Will they actually engage in what we can do to support them.

Oodlenoodle12 · 04/01/2021 20:16

#itsgettingweird Boris didn't categorically say that the lockdown would end by Feb half term. He said they want to get the top 4 groups vaccinated with the first dose by then. That's an aim, not a definite end date.

Xenia · 04/01/2021 20:17

A very bad call.
At least nurseries can stay open and people can go to work if they cannot work from home.
Nothing about money for parents who cannot work because they are looking after their children.

ragged · 04/01/2021 20:17

Do we have link to the new instructions on a govt website (England)?

I have lots of volunteering planned for this week, and want a tooth filled. Wondering about dentistry & volunteering to support vulnerable people or LatFlow testing.

m0use · 04/01/2021 20:17

@StudentHelp

What does this mean for students? Especially med based courses but not medicine e.g. vet med Sad
Vet students able to return to face to face learning according to the newest guidance on gov.uk Grin
OvaHere · 04/01/2021 20:17

Are exams cancelled from now or was he referring to GCSEs/A Levels in the spring? DS is doing a vocational FE course and was due to sit one on Thursday.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2021 20:18

Whilst the schools were open in November till the end of term the tier systems didn't work that well sadly.
Difficult decision for them though. The economy will crash and burn too :(
It is so so grim :(

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 20:18

@Angelofdeath

Thank you Bert I literally shut off after he said schools were closed & burst into tears... Reading the latest comments im glad I'm not the only one!

Argh will my 8yo with ehcp be in school tomorrow or not then!? 😬

CovidCarol · 04/01/2021 20:18

@CherieBabySpliffUp

Did he say that exams for England will be cancelled or it wouldn't be fair to cancel them?
Cancelled and an alternative to be made up at the last minute provided.
ragged · 04/01/2021 20:19

This is what www.gov.uk/coronavirus shows, nothing yet about today's new rule regime in England.
