FGS. I didn’t think my opinion of the teaching unions could sink further.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 13:27

It's not a strike.

It's a section 44 walkout.

Employees have the legal right to a safe workplace and the government is breaking that law.

Noellodee · 02/01/2021 13:28

I think it's bloody brave that they take this stand that will save tens of thousands of lives and delay the collapse of the NHS around the country. I hope my own union has the guts to do something similar.

AlwaysLatte · 02/01/2021 13:29

Good for them. I hope they get heard.

noblegiraffe · 02/01/2021 13:29

The headteachers unions have begun legal proceedings against the DfE.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 02/01/2021 13:29

Good. Excellent. Brilliant. Fabulous, and lots of other words along those lines.

Oh and also...about time someone did something!

TheWorstShed · 02/01/2021 13:29

On a personal level, bugger. But it is the right thing to do at this point.

Thatwentbadly · 02/01/2021 13:30

I can’t find anything on the neu website. Is it real? I’m nolonger a member.

I’m glad someone is taking it seriously.

ofwarren · 02/01/2021 13:30

Good for them, I really don't blame them.

EmmanuelleMakro · 02/01/2021 13:31

Interesting-I am in the NeU and haven’t received any notification . Would be good if they could inform members before we find out on MN!
As it happens, had an email from my HT two days ago telling us not to go into work for the INSET day on Monday. Since numerous schools have inset that day is a pretty empty gesture.

TiddleTaddleTat · 02/01/2021 13:31

Following.

herecomesthsun · 02/01/2021 13:31

Maybe we should support them as parents Smile

RMRM · 02/01/2021 13:31

I'm pleased. The government does not have their best interests at heart. They are not providing a safe workplace. This could all have been avoided if they had been consulted and listened to at any point before now.

Teachers will still be available to look after kw children.
Someone had to do something, the government is just letting the virus spread through schools and therefore communities.

Yeah, god forbid they should stand up for their members Hmm

Are you a teacher currently expected to work in the same unsafe conditions they've been working in since September? If not, who gives a tuppeny fuck?
ivegotaheadacheneedabaguette · 02/01/2021 13:32

Good for them. I support them 100%

Yes. How best to do this? Genuine question :-)
Cookiecrisps · 02/01/2021 13:33

We haven’t got an INSET Monday as it’s a normal teaching day. Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I haven’t been informed of this by my union yet either.

Achristmaspudsskidu · 02/01/2021 13:35

Good for them, and with the support of the Head Teacher union, I suspect they’ll have some clout.

The situation in schools was dire and something drastic had to be done.

Tillsforthrills · 02/01/2021 13:36

So that’s just for primary schools?

DecemberSun · 02/01/2021 13:36

Hurrah for them!

TwnklTwnklLittleStarfighter · 02/01/2021 13:37

Good! They deserve a safe workplace. I fully support them.
