How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

@Layladylay234 I had that one too and the trust were in touch a few days afterwards. Good luck!

Whiskyinajar · 31/01/2021 19:12

Four references needed...FOUR and they won't accept Hotmaio or Gmail addresses...they want work addresses. I've been out seven years as a carer for my disabled son. I don't KNOW four people who can do this.

NHS Professionals.

They want people who are doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers etc.

Got to the point of asking my niece who is a teacher...just so I can put ONE non Gmail/Hotmail reference email address.

I know they need to make sure I am not Beverley Allitt but jeepers!

Frazzled2207 · 31/01/2021 19:40

Well that’ll count me out because my best reference (13 years) has very recently retired and has a gmail address now

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 31/01/2021 20:07

DH gave the same 2 refs for personal and professional and it seems to have been accepted. Agree it's a ridiculous requirement.

goldpendant · 31/01/2021 20:23

I gave 4 references to NHSP, all of whom replied etc.

Now the local trust want 3-4 references again.... I despair!!

Mrsbrownsgargoyle · 31/01/2021 21:01

Dear god.

Hi, I've been following this thread for awhile but not posted as had nothing to add until now . I applied through NHS professionals for a vaccinator role ( non healthcare ) in November . I jumped through the same hoops doing all the online training modules / 4 references/ occ health etc. I had confirmation from NHS professionals a few weeks ago that I'd been successful and they were passing my details on to my local trust that I'd selected .
Had a phone call from my local trust onboarding team today and they have said they are not taking non healthcare vaccinators on and they are really frustrated that NHS professionals were recruiting for these roles when most NHS trusts are only using band 5/6 qualified nurses for vaccinators . She was very apologetic that I'd undergone 2 months of the application process and completed all the e-learning but the only role I'd be able to do would be an admin role . She said many people were in the same position as me having applied for roles that many NHS trusts will not be using .
I'm feeling really disappointed and annoyed I've wasted so much time . I've agreed to help out in an admin role as obviously that's important too but just thought I'd let you ladies know my experience as I know many of you are also waiting to hear .

goldpendant · 01/02/2021 20:44

Oh @Hopeful646 what a disappointment. Of course the admin side is just as needed and I hope you'll enjoy it - certainly feels like a waste of time you having completed all of that e-learning that's completely unnecessary. What a cock up.

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 20:49

@Hopeful646
that is so rubbish. I'm pleased they've finally let you know though. I would be more than happy to help in an admin capacity tbh. But would be very annoyed to have done all that training pointlessly (I haven't done any via NHSP, but have done loads for SJA and am currently stuck as no training nearby available).

Hopeful646 · 01/02/2021 20:50

Thanks it's frustrating having completed all the e -learning . NHS professionals should really ask people which trust they want to work in from the start and find out if they are using non healthcare vaccinators. I was a qualified nurse but haven't practiced for over 10 years so no longer on the register. How's your application going ?

Hopeful646 · 01/02/2021 20:54

@Frazzled2207 have they said they hope to get more training provision in your area soon ? It's a crazy system making people do so much online learning as part of the application. Should be done once you have been confirmed as having a role lined up .

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 20:59

@Hopeful646
Its ridiculous a person called me to ask why I hadn't booked on and I said I wanted to do it in Manchester and was waiting for that to come up as an option. Everything else quite far away. She said that she had dates in Manchester on her system and couldn't tell me why they weren't showing up my end. Thought it was a technical glitch. So she just said 'best not to email them - they're too busy) but to keep on trying (helpful). But noone has been able to tell me if there are actually any opportunities in South Manchester. So could yet still be a complete waste of time. As you say it should be clear with all application systems WHERE they are jobs/volunteer opps before you start.

Hopeful646 · 01/02/2021 21:12

@Frazzled2207 I hope you get it sorted . I expect more centres and roles will become available as the programme gets rolled out more and more.

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 21:25

indeed the programme will last many months and if it's a bit of a delay then not the end of the world.

Olympicfan · 02/02/2021 07:51

@Hopeful646 Which trust did you apply to? DD has got to the exact same stage as you. She has reached the end of the application process and is waiting to hear where or if she will be vaccinating.

Hopeful646 · 02/02/2021 08:26

@Olympicfan I've PM you

Gadzookery · 02/02/2021 13:51

sorry to hear about this @Olympic Fan. Bet I get told the same thing then....agree that they could have been a bit more upfront at the beginning...

Gadzookery · 02/02/2021 15:32

I've just been asked to nominated a lead employer trust - which I've done. Fully expecting the call to say they only need admin roles (which I will do if offered).

cathyandclare · 02/02/2021 16:51

I've had an email saying shifts are available, but still no log in details or ID badge from SJA. When I try and sign in I get blocked.

HildegardNightingale · 03/02/2021 16:26

@cathyandclare that must be so frustrating.

nyenc · 03/02/2021 16:30

@Frazzled2207 I've got onto My:Bank for NHSP. I had to select Tameside and Glossop as there were no other trusts near me (South MCR) but there aren't any available shifts on there anyway.

Nobody has mentioned anything yet about face to face training and I haven't heart from tamesjde and glossop at all yet.

If I haven't heard anything by the end of the week I'll probably get back on to NHSP's Manchester office (if I can even get through) to ask what's going on!

This process has been a nightmare!

Olympicfan · 03/02/2021 17:02

DD has now had an official offer of a job letter from NHSP. It is for a Health Care Assistant rather than a vaccinator, but DD does not mind as long as she is helping out.

She has 2 more online training modules to complete with this offer letter. But this letter also needed a photo for her NHS ID badge!!! She might be starting work soon!

Gadzookery · 03/02/2021 17:04

That's great news Olympic fan! Really pleased for your DD!

TabletHelpPlease · 03/02/2021 17:05

Hmm, I thought I posted an update here a couple of days ago, but it didn’t save. I have finally received an email to book my SJA vaccinator training, and have done so for this Saturday. I’m hoping I can start shifts soon afterwards.
