How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

Hahaha - probably gone into the same 'file' as the applications to carry out the lab work around tests back from March and April.

Slowly, very, very slowly. Have got some training left to do...conflict resolution, dementia awareness, equality, diversity and human rights, info governance, preventing radicalisation.
Have done all the vaccine type training and really enjoyed it.
But slowly losing the will to live .......

Oh dear, how much online training is there to do? From an hours point of view?

I’m not been funny but you’d think they would just say, yes you’re on the nmc register....what shifts can you do? I do all that e learning for my substantive job, I’m not doing it again. Is prevent radicalisation training really necessary?

@JacobReesMogadishu if you’ve got a substantive post than I imagine you’d only do the vaccine e-learning. I’ve come out of retirement (can you hear my creaky knees) so I’ve got quite a lot to do.
I would say, honestly I’ll have done about 30 hours in total by the end, but it will be worth it.

My substantive post is at a university, not in the nhs.

I certainly won’t be doing 30 hours of e-learning!

But you will whizz through it, honestly I’m a slow coach with computers. Also I keep stopping and go onto mumsnet whilst I’m chomping away on Freddy bars.

😁. Work is just so full on at the minute, I’m doing 50plus hours a week, which I do shoehorn in to mon-fri. Maybe I could spend a weekend doing e-learning, but it just annoys me for the non relevant stuff and gets my back up. Wouldn’t have a problem with some vaccinator e-learning but not information governance shite!

Info gov is vitally important though, as you'll be processing people's personal details. Honestly though, it's all mostly common sense and i tend to just forward through everything and do the test at the end. It'll be quick if you know your stuff already, and if you dont already know it, then itll have been a good user of your time!

I’m applying to do marshalling. It has taken me hours and hours to fill in all the forms and contact potential referees. I have volunteered for many organisations in the past and never known anything like this. I nearly gave up last night because it was taking so long.

not as a vaccinator but have emailed two different gp practices to see if I can help as a volunteer - both advertised for people to help! Not heard a sausage which is disappointing. I'll leave the actual vaccinating to the experts but sure I can help in some way.

oh blimey not keen on that. I was hoping I could just turn up. I have a DBS which is possibly something needed.

Maybe mixed up with the volunteer application to administer tests in schools...my volunteers are going to be very busy.

Hi, my DH is a vet who is willing and able to do vaccinations ( they are approved to do it) but he is vulnerable and we live with someone who is ECV so ideally we would want both of them vaccinated before he starts, does anyone know if the vaccinators get vaccinated??

I’m not sure if vaccinators get vaccinated, you’d like to think so. Not just for their protection, but to protect all the people they will be in close contact with.

I've volunteered via St John Ambulance and its been a shower of shite so far - still patiently waiting for a training session appointment. I know they are busy and I guess were waiting for Oxford to be approved but their systems are rubbish....

Just to let people know how it’s going - it’s not!! Spent 4 hours yesterday trying to do my assessments. The screen keeps freezing and doesn’t allow you to do the assessments. Have been on it this morning and same thing happening. I’ll have completed my assessments by 2050 at this rate.

My Facebook feed is full of similar reports from colleagues, all registered HCPs, some recently retired and on the emergency register. Most are giving up. 🤷‍♀️

Also concerns about no guarantee of a vaccine for themselves and not wanting to put themselves at risk.

Have completed all vax training, anaphylaxis, BLS etc. It’s just the ones like conflict resolution, radicalisation, info gov that I still have to do. I am going to email the certs I have and say about the trouble I’m having accessing the others.

It's box ticking for this particular role I should think (I had to do it despite it being completely irrelevant for my job), but Prevent only takes about half an hour.

Elimau - I’ve been online for 5 hours trying to complete prevent. It does not take 30 mins, trust me.

I got my application discontinued as I said I needed to stay local to be able to pick kids up from preschool and nursery. My oh is a dr and works in central london so not available to do school pick ups. I’m a nurse with 20 years experience and only work bank hours now so could easily go and give vaccines but need to stay local and they said no thanks we need you to be able to travel around. It’s ridiculous
