How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

I was approached by SJA as I am a first aider - applied online and got an online interview very quickly. Passed that and have completed my online training. Have my in person training this weekend. It's been great reading this thread and I was quite worried at one stage but good to see the comment that as it's only one injection and no drawing up/reconstituting etc. and easy to be trained to do, I'm feeling more confident. I work pretty much full time but they said it's only a couple of shift per month and I actually think if it goes ahead my workplace would give me extra time off to do this. I really want to feel as though I am doing something to help this dire situation. My MIL and her partner are both extremely vulnerable and despite boht being over 80 neither has yet been offered the vaccine. However, a friends mum who is not over 80 is getting hers this weekend so it does seem to be a bit of a lottery. It's good to hear that they are using up the wasted 6th pfizer doses where possible as I'd hate to think any of it was going to waste. We need to get as many jabs done as possibly as quickly as possible as it really seems the only way of of this awful situation now :(

cathyandclare · 05/01/2021 15:25

Interview tomorrow for me. Good luck all!

StellaOlivetti · 05/01/2021 15:46

Hello all can I ask a question about the online training please? I am plodding my way through it (it has literally taken all day) and the end is in sight, but I can’t find a certificate to download for the anaphylaxis module. Has anyone else done this yet? I’m worried about not having it because you need to download them all before the next stage. Thanks, and heartfelt sympathy to anyone else who’s also in the same quagmire.

Chardonnay73 · 05/01/2021 16:02

@becks5109 Can I ask what type of questions they asked you in your interview? Presumably it’s a telephone interview, it didn’t actually say when I booked it!!

HildegardNightingale · 05/01/2021 16:17

@StellaOlivetti - is it the e-lfh you are on? If so there is definitely a cert. there is a pop down with reports and certs on that you might get it from.

HildegardNightingale · 05/01/2021 16:19

Along the top press on my activity and it says reports and certificates (that’s if it’s e-Lfh.
Good luck

StellaOlivetti · 05/01/2021 16:38

Thank you! All done thank the lord x

efc1878 · 05/01/2021 18:11

I had my interview via a locum agency- 4 questions- about my last 2 years of work, communication examples, liaising with other professionals and a situation question- something I dealt with well.
I did ask about being vaccinated but they said it wasn’t definite.
How does everyone else feel? I’ve worked in hospital all year but I’m a bit anxious at the high levels of face to face if I’m not vaccinated.

HildegardNightingale · 05/01/2021 19:49

Just completed my safeguarding children level 2!!!! Only took 6 hours today because of freezing laptop, but I’ve done it, yippee. Think that’s me all done.
@efc1878 I feel that it’s just something that has to be done. It’s a personal thing. But I do feel the vaccinators should be vaccinated. Ultimately it’s an individual’s choice.

efc1878 · 05/01/2021 20:49

Well done on completing the safeguarding- I was sent back to the start a few times but all completed now.

I agree we are in a position to help and I feel I will have less contact in this role than I did with Covid patients over the summer.

goldpendant · 05/01/2021 21:26

Hi everyone

Just popped on to see if any non healthcare vaccinator applicants have heard back from either NHSP or Sterling yet following the ID checks? I completed all my training/certs a week ago but I've not heard anything since!

Frazzled2207 · 05/01/2021 21:30

@goldpendant
Hello
Not yet but am getting through my NHSP application. How onerous is the training? Seems a bit daft if you don't know if you'll be accepted.

becks5109 · 06/01/2021 10:46

@Chardonnay73 - it was the first interview I'd had in about 25 years! But all straighforward - questions such as "can you describe a situation where you've had to ask someone for help" and "can you give an example of where something has gone wrong and what you've done about it". You can use just everyday examples and the lady that interviewed me was very lovely. I hadn't really prepared much as I hadn't expected it to be so formal but it was really all fine.

cathyandclare · 06/01/2021 15:27

That was my SJA interview too, more formal than I was expecting but the person was lovely. Got through that and the background checks, now waiting for my log in details so I can do the online training.

@becks5109 how long did it take to get your training log in? Would love to get this done over the weekend.

Was this NHS or SJA? Pretty quick for the NHS!
Olympicfan · 07/01/2021 13:25

NHS - UCL London

Frazzled2207 · 07/01/2021 13:26

Got a response from SJA really disappointing basically saying that there was somethign wrong with my documentation so they can't process my application....but inviting me to try again (despite not telling me what the issue is). I'm willing to give it another go but am guessing many others wouldn't.

goldpendant · 07/01/2021 15:34

My referees were all contacted yesterday (all four of them!)....

Fingers crossed this means something is happening behind the tumbleweed!!

oneglassandpuzzled · 07/01/2021 15:40

I'm only applying for marshalling etc, and after several blips eventually submitted my application and received an email saying I'd been accepted as a volunteer and to watch out for alerts. Two days later, another email appeared telling me I'd need to apply for an interview slot. No slots available online.

I've been trying for weeks and have almost given up. Instead I've joined a local group operating with our GP practice.

StellaOlivetti · 07/01/2021 17:30

After spendingLITERALLY all day on Tuesday ploughing my way through first 18 online training modules on e-LfH, and then the rest of the application forms, I now receive an email from nhs professionals saying they are simplifying their application process and allowing people to self certify their relevant skills and experience. I am glad it’ll be easier for future applicants, but a little annoyed at the waste of my precious day off. Although now I think about it, it was pouring with rain all day and it’s not like there’s much else to do these days ...

cathyandclare · 07/01/2021 19:21

That's frustrating Frazzled and Stella.

I've spent all day doing the SJA and e-LfH modules. Got those done, but if the NHS ever respond to my application there'll be quite a few more ( SJA have their own safeguarding, moving and handling, anaphylaxis and Governance/GDPR ones). Waiting for an appt for face to face training, kind of want to just get it done...

Piccalino3 · 07/01/2021 22:31

I applied through NHS Professionals last night and had a progress of my application today but have fallen at the first hurdle as I have asthma. It's only very mild but puts me in the clinically vulnerable group which I do understand (and had wondered about). Thing is if I was at work I'd be seeing patients at closer contact for longer periods of time. Does anyone know what the risk assessment at the end involves?

Sarahlou63 · 07/01/2021 22:35

Fucking hell - it's an intramuscular injection. If I can jab a 500kg horse I could jab a person (although probably with less polos).

MrsFionaCharming · 07/01/2021 23:19

I’ve applied as a non-HCP (just finished healthcare course and have job offer to start in a few months). I did all the e-learning and documents in the days between Christmas and New Year, now just waiting to hear.
