Sky news. England set for New Year lockdown?

I wonder if there's truth in this.
It seems to be a habit of gov. to leak things to the press first.
To prepare us for bad news

It needs people to do it properly like last March. Not half arsed tier 2-3. Just until the vaccine is rolled out more widely. Christ knows what state the economy will be in afterwards though.

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 22/12/2020 07:36

I’d say it’s almost certain. Or we’ll all be moved to Tier 4 - lockdown rebranded.

Blacktothepink · 22/12/2020 07:37

Yep, just in time for Brexit 🤔

SophieB100 · 22/12/2020 07:40

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-england-set-for-new-year-lockdown-as-coronavirus-variant-spreads-across-uk-12169829

Inevitable, I think.
And most schooling will be on line during it.

MoirasRoses · 22/12/2020 07:40

What a frigging happy new year. Lockdown & Brexit. Stop the world, I want to get off.

Yellowtaxi2021 · 22/12/2020 07:40

I thought it would be sooner tbh

girlcrushonvillanelle · 22/12/2020 07:40

Yep, and no chance that the schools are going back on 4th Jan.

Frenchdressing · 22/12/2020 07:41

Roll on the summer.....weather will be better and more people will have had the vaccine. January is grim anyway. Looks like it’s going to be a tough winter.

DrunkenKoala · 22/12/2020 07:41

I expect so. Yesterday Vallance was clear that this mutant strain was spreading across the country. It’s down to Government and parliament as to what happens next.

likeamillpond · 22/12/2020 07:44

Just tell us already.
People are sick of not knowing.
All this will we won't we is doing my head in.

It's the not knowing is stressful.

Crakeandoryx · 22/12/2020 07:46

Is this not obvious already! We will be in tier 4 and the announcement will come after boxing day. January into march was always going to be difficult but now mutant covid is about it's stay indoors!

We're back to hunkering down and stay out the way unless you absolutely can't.

Crakeandoryx · 22/12/2020 07:47

Why do we need to be told! Prepare for it now. It's going to come at some point!

Redbrickwall · 22/12/2020 07:49

Surely that won’t mean we can’t work again? We will lose our house if that’s the case

HelloMissus · 22/12/2020 07:49

Yeah Tier 4 for everyone come 27th ish to avoid sales and NY drinking.

ChasingRainbows19 · 22/12/2020 07:50

Always obvious as cases rose this would happen after Christmas. The government have no other plan to stop it overwhelming everything. Just hoping that some have decided not to mix as much or at all over Christmas so it’s not as bad as anticipated come mid jan.

SophieB100 · 22/12/2020 07:51

To be honest, working in a high school, I've acted as if I've been on lockdown throughout! I assume I have it and everyone else has it. Other than work, and the occasionally supermarket trip (when I can't get a delivery) I've been nowhere.
I'll continue like this regardless of what tier we're in.
(City in tier 2 by the way).

ASchuylerSister · 22/12/2020 07:53

I’ve warned my secondary kids to be prepared that they may have to move to online learning a bit.

I’d rather they had a bit of notice to mentally prepare than Boris announcing at 10pm on Sunday 10th that they aren’t actually going back to school.

StealthPolarBear · 22/12/2020 07:55

I know exactly how you feel, I can cope with most things other than uncertainty (I'm in the very fortunate position of being able to practically cope in terms of job, money etc). However no one can being certainty. People wanted to know what the plans were for Christmas in November so the government made some, only to have to change them due to circumstances at the last minute. This pandemic isn't conducive to people like me who like to be able to plan.
PhilCornwall1 · 22/12/2020 07:55

@HelloMissus

I'd go for the 26th and yet another press conference on the 24th, scheduled for 5pm, so that means it will start at 6:30pm.

He'll start with a bit of good news, then say "alas" and we'll all then know he's going to bend the country over the dining room table and roger us with a baseball bat!

SophieB100 · 22/12/2020 07:56

I know @ASchuylerSister, our Head has been told nothing, and she runs a high school with almost 2K students! Poor woman is tearing her hair out at the government never giving enough notice.

MardyBicardi · 22/12/2020 07:56

I suspect that everyone will go into tier 4 at some point soon if this new strain is as transmissible as people think.
I am already in tier 4 so I will probably be in tier 10 by the new year, only allowed to leave the house in a hazmat suit once a week for a 10 minute exercise break.

The government will drop off food parcels consisting of freeze dried astronaut style food every other Monday and only my cat will be able to take the bins out.

MardyBicardi · 22/12/2020 07:57

I am still aiming to be back at work in a school on the 4 of January though, I ant se that changing.

VashtaNerada · 22/12/2020 07:58

I hope they decide on schools soon. It’s annual leave for teachers at the moment (where I am anyway) and if I have to prepare online lessons during my leave I’d rather know about it sooner than later! I’d also like the government to be clearer about its expectations with employers. When I was travelling to school the tubes were packed, even in Tier 4. I don’t blame the individuals, I think there are some employers who could reasonably expect people to work from home who aren’t letting them anymore.

PhilCornwall1 · 22/12/2020 07:58

We've been told our youngest (year 9), won't be going back on the 4th.
DrunkenKoala · 22/12/2020 07:59

@PhilCornwall1

My kids are giving me very funny looks here as I sit sniggering 🤣🤣🤣
