Sorry I'm hoping to delete this post

This popped up on my breaking news feed. Does this edge is closer to an Oxford vaccine roll out? uk.reuters.com/article/UKNews1/idUKKBN28R2J8

Moderna about to be approved in the US

I read that about 3 times and wasn't sure what it means!! Grin

RosesAndHellebores · 18/12/2020 00:31

Who knows but I would assert if the Oxford vaccine gets approval the government will sell on the Pfizer jabs wherever they can. I honestly can't see them investing £30 per head if they can get away with £2.62.

I'm scheduled for May. I'd buy it for £150ish from a private provider in Feb.

ChristmasinJune · 18/12/2020 04:14

It'll be interesting to see if they do begin selling it privately. I would probably go for it, to be fair, but I'm not sure it's right though Hmm

FuzzyPuffling · 18/12/2020 07:13

I really hope that none of the vaccines are sold privately until at the very least, all the over 50s have been offered one. And after that, I'd like to see teachers, police etc prioritised in a "lower age groups" list.

If rich people can jump the priority queue ( particularly if they think they are buying a more effective product) I would be deeply upset. And would very harshly judge anyone who bought one.

The priority list is there for a reason, and if there is access to the vaccine, it should be firmly adhered to.

Talking about celebrities ... www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-55345131

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/12/2020 08:52

So the celeb vaccine list so far:
Prue Leith
Lionel Blair
Marty Wilde (who?)
Sir Ian McKellern

Who will be next? And who will be the first one to break ranks and instead of saying it was painless moan that it hurt and their arm is sore?

fadingfast · 18/12/2020 08:57

I really don’t think any of the vaccines will be available privately for a long time yet, probably not during 2021 at least. Global demand will be so high and there will be supply issues even for Governments who have preordered doses.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/12/2020 09:30

Marty Wilde...aged rocker, father to Kim "kids in America" Wilde.
I went out with Marty's guitarist for a very short while.

Aha!
I was wondering who would be the first ageing rocker to get it!

Paul McCartney has announced he WILL take the vaccine when offered. These celebs are realising the good publicity and all the likes and potential to go viral Grin Bet they’re all ringing their agents to see if anything can be done to bump them up the lists. All those celebs that have lied about their ages for years are furious they didn’t see this opportunity coming GrinWink

I was listening to a podcast about Zsa Zsa Gabor and it made me chuckle that because of lying about her age for so long the landmarks of her past started to look ridiculous - e.g. if her stated age at the time of one of her later marriages was true (it wasn't) she would have won Miss Hungary aged 4 and got married the first time at 11.

Covid vaccines might also reveal some truths - age wise.

cathyandclare · 18/12/2020 13:53

I love that about ZsaZsa Gabor!
Saw this on another thread and it is potentially good news so thought I'd share. Could one dose of the mRNA vaccines be enough?

That would be brilliant if so

Layladylay234 · 18/12/2020 14:29

Hey all. Here's my good news for today,I've officially applied to become a vaccinator. I put forward my interest at the end of Nov and then heard nothing, was a bit gutted actually as I needed the money. There must have been a glitch though as last night they sent an email saying I didn't finish the application and so today I completed it,just have to sit and wait now.

MarcelineMissouri · 18/12/2020 14:34

Well one of these has got to work at some point right!! Grin

That looks great Marcelline though tbh I am holding out for the thing where you just have to cough at a smartphone Grin

Layladylay234 - well done you!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/12/2020 14:55

Oops sorry, I misspelled Marceline!

tobee · 18/12/2020 20:22

"These celebs are realising the good publicity and all the likes and potential to go viral "

Surely, in this case, they'd go anti-viral?

Grin

I'll get my coat.

tobee · 18/12/2020 20:26

Brilliant work @Layladylay234

If that single dose is enough to be effective story turns out to be true, people will already be making antibodies enough to protect them and slow the rate down. Plus, presumably, info will come through more quickly as to whether the vaccines can stop transmission

tobee · 18/12/2020 20:39

Oh yes! Patrick Mower was another celeb who got vaccinated.Grin

Can't believe he's 82! My dsis had a massive crush on him! Grin
