Where did you see / hear this?
JemimaPyjamas · 22/12/2020 09:29

Small positive bit of news, admittedly only relevant to me; my grandma (shes 98) has her first Covid jab booked for Thursday afternoon!!!

Oh! I avoid the news as much as possible as it makes me depressed

theleperofeurope · 22/12/2020 09:33

yeah, they also said the Oxford would be approved todayConfused

cathyandclare · 22/12/2020 09:37

I think the rumours about today were because the vaccine hubs were told to prepare. This is a leak from a widely reported 'Whitehall source' which is more concrete. It all depends on the new data yesterday. I'm refreshing by the minute!!

theleperofeurope · 22/12/2020 09:40

I got up early to watch the news! Grin

chri55ie · 22/12/2020 09:55

I was thinking it could even be as early as tomorrow...if they have the data yesterday? Keeping everything crossed

goldpendant · 22/12/2020 10:40

My smidge of good news - I was contacted by NHS Professionals regarding my application to be a vaccinator. The email was from them asking me to complete my application online.

Maybe this means they are expecting approval imminently 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

The data shows that the vaccine reduces serious illness and risk of mortality from around 10 days of having just first dose

It was in the Telegraph article a few days ago along with the figure of 500,000 vaccinated by the weekend, both 'from a senior Whitehall source'. And the 500,000 figure turned out to be accurate so I have high hopes that they really are expecting vaccine approval next week as well.

January's going to be pretty miserable, but imagine going into it knowing they're rolling out a huge mass vaccination programme and millions more people are being vaccinated every week - will help things look up a bit.

Thank you, I knew I had read it somewhere but couldn’t recall where.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/22/covid-vaccine-likely-to-work-on-uk-variant-biontech-boss-says

This put my mind at rest - not sure if this has already been posted

Sebw · 22/12/2020 17:32

This may be covered but the Biontech/pfizer boss says that it would only take 6 weeks to alter vaccine for new strain if needed.

I think all the vaccine work over the past year will go way beyond this pandemic and will help with future pandemics and other illnesses. Smile

Another positive tweet re protection levels after 1 dose

According to Twitter the coronavirus dashboard will soon be updated with vaccinations given...a positive step...

TeaInTheGarden · 22/12/2020 21:17

That’s great- tracking positive stats for a change!!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2020 21:55

Soon as in going live in a few hours or soon as in a week or two?

chri55ie · 22/12/2020 22:16

Just says coming very soon...would say days rather than hrs

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2020 22:22

Excellent, thanks.

Good news about the new variant and oxford vaccine. Also, India should be approving it by next week. Surely they won’t beat us to it..?! Good news though

CornishYarg · 23/12/2020 02:00

I've read about the journalist Christian Martin on this thread before; no-one's too sure what his links to the Oxford vaccine are but he's been pretty reliable so far. He's just tweeted this:

mobile.twitter.com/askomartin/status/1341548969990696960

Which according to Google Translate says:
LATEST: our sources in Oxford and Astrazeneca Cambridge Headquarters assure us that internally there is no doubt that the Oxford Vaccine will be effective against the new Covid strain. Approval in December 27/29. Millions of ready-made doses throughout the country.

Hopefully his source is still reliable!
