New thread as I got worried the old one was going to run out of space!

As a rule viruses get less deadly as they become more virulent... but who knows, it's a novel virus. Hopefully.

goldpendant · 19/12/2020 20:33

I suppose we'll know in a few weeks. A faster part to herd immunity (looking on the bright side).

Ok people I have something wonderful for you...my friend works for this GP so I am very proud.

That's a great effort, TheCountess. Well done to everyone.

I love that story. Great news.

That is a lovely tale countess. And so nice the locals came together to help. Really nice to see Xmas Smile

How lovely! Good on them

A positive video with a vaccine update from a generally sensible and informed source. He says that the MHRA are getting new data from the AZ USA trial tomorrow, suggesting that must have reached an interim/ end point and been unblinded.

Any good news I am in tier 4 been in tears

Fingers crossed that show good news at least as good as the U.K. trials

cathyandclare · 20/12/2020 10:26

I am holding onto the fact that surely they wouldn't have leaked it if the results were bad!

IcedPurple · 20/12/2020 10:29

Also, on another thread someone said that Matt Hancock said that these tough restrictions will likely stay in place until a 'vaccine roll-out'. That sounds horrendous but could that mean that they know approval of Oxford is imminent? They surely can't keep the most economically productive parts of the country on full lock-down indefinitely.

Can they?

Hope so! Mood music seems good, must be so nerve racking when they unblind. Not sure how they can stand it, must be how Bill Bailey was feeling last night. Tess’s pause went on forever Grin
chri55ie · 20/12/2020 12:30

I love Dr. John. In fact I watched the video last night in bed and it really cheered me up. He doesn’t say ‘Excellent news’ very often so would assume indeed it is excellent news!

feelingverylazytoday · 20/12/2020 12:45

I think they're looking at the week of 28/12 for approval.
They'll keep these levels of restrictions in place for as long as they have to, they really have no choice now. It's unfortunate that the new variant has thrown a spanner into the works but it's got to be dealt with.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/12/2020 12:52

I love this thread. So good to read positive things - and daily positive things too.

As a shielding household, the new restrictions make not one jot of difference to us, but having lived like this for over 9 months, we can't wait to be set freeeeeeeee! :)

I saw that earlier, but what happened to 22nd? Or was that just speculation? Did they (the media/government) not say before Christmas at one point too? Or did I imagine that?

I know all the signs are that it will be approved, but until it actually does I'm still a little concerned. Then again that's just my personality.

I think the 22nd was just something someone posted on here rather than in the media?
chri55ie · 20/12/2020 13:25

I think it was a date that was more of a get ready date for the vaccination hubs....

chri55ie · 20/12/2020 13:25

Whitehall sources said 27/28 Dec so would assume that was hopefully accurate

They've asked for further information, which Professor Gilbert has said will be provided by Monday.

That came from me I think - it was the date we (hospital vaccine hub and local system mass vac managing and co-ordinating organisation) had been told that approval was expected. I should have added the caveat that things are changing all the time (virtually hour to hour!) though. I wasn't at work last week so haven't seen any more recent updates, but we are absolutely getting ready, and expecting, to stand up our mass vaccination hub imminently. I guess we'll see! 🤞
TeaInTheGarden · 20/12/2020 15:33

Thanks for that video @cathyandclare
Need all the optimism we can get right now!

MarcelineMissouri · 20/12/2020 15:55

I can’t access the article sadly but based on the twitter thread I sense it is reassuring!
