Hopefully, they will point out to Delores that he hasn't signed the letter (probably because the DfE couldn't find a crayon)and has got the signature date wrong.

A bit of a standoff then? What about the other borough Waltham Forest?

YikesMusthaveusername · 14/12/2020 21:05

Thanks StaffAssociationRepresentative for linking the letter

YikesMusthaveusername · 14/12/2020 21:06

Kent seems to be where the new variant emerged. I guess that's near Greenwich? Waltham Forest borders on Essex too which has gone into Tier 3.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 21:11

The DfE muppets have sorted out the date issue

Clearly, this is the hill where they want to take a stand and they are willing to die on.

In the meantime, any respect left for that department is evaporating - time for a big shake up sooner rather than later

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 21:33

Kent and Greenwich are not very close together, no.

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 21:34

I believe Swale was the most affect area in Kent which is around 50 miles away from Greenwich.

CallmeAngelGabriel · 14/12/2020 21:39

@Ginogineli

The cases in London now are lower than before London went in lockdown so crazy to shut achools
I'm not sure about that, but anyway, isn't it more about the rate of increase in infections that's the key issue? So I read that currently it is doubling every four days in London. Anyone have any idea how that compares with what the North were dealing with before?
formerbabe · 14/12/2020 21:41

@BertNErnie

Kent and Greenwich are not very close together, no.
London borough of Greenwich borders the borough of bromley which is a London borough but also sort of kent
formerbabe · 14/12/2020 21:42

And bexley

Elephant4 · 14/12/2020 21:44

Waltham Forest seems to have gone unnoticed. Mind you the letter only came out this evening.

Most schools are shut from tomorrow though.

YikesMusthaveusername · 14/12/2020 21:50

I just wonder whether there might be commuters from Kent into Greenwich?

doubleshotespresso · 14/12/2020 21:56

I really hope Greenwich dig their heels in here. Teachers, families and communities are at breaking point I cannot believe they've sent this direction at this stage . What an absolute mess

Monochromefox · 14/12/2020 21:58

Yes loads of school children live in Greenwich and go to school in Bexley and Kent.

Same with sporting teams, our blackheath sports team has people who come from Kent, or did before they were asked not to come for a while.

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 22:01

Former babe, those who live in Bromley often claim to be a London borough she to the fact that that's what is on their council tax bill but honestly it's most definitely not a London borough.

Bromley does border Kent yes but it's still quite far from Greenwich. Bexley is the border between Bromley and Kent (I know both areas well)

I would say yes, there are people commuting from one borough to the other but it's likely the other way around - Kent to Bromley or Greenwich as the rates of pay are higher in London

Bluegreen70 · 14/12/2020 22:02

@YikesMusthaveusername

many
BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 22:02

I'd say there are more children commuting from Greenwich and Bexley to Kent than vice versa due to grammar schools.

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 22:03

I just realised I misunderstood - yes you re definitely correct in terms of commuters

Rosehip10 · 14/12/2020 22:53

@BertNErnie Bromley has been a London Borough since 1965, so not sure why you are stating "it's not a London Borough" - it most definitely is, despite certain people for some reason denying that the 1965 boundary changes happened.

scrivette · 14/12/2020 22:56

There are plenty of commuters from
Kent and surrounding Boroughs (Bexley and Bromley) into Greenwich. Lots of people drive into work and so it's easy along the A2.

scrivette · 14/12/2020 22:57

Bromley is definitely a London Borough.

Rosehip10 · 14/12/2020 23:00

@scrivette Yep it is, but but some strange reason, certain people in Bromley are insistent they are still part of Kent (same issues in SW London, with people insistent they are part of Surrey, or Middlesex (which no longer exists))

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 23:04

I'll clarify.

Bromley is technically a London borough yes. Ask anyone who is born and bred in London if it qualifies as a 'proper' London borough and I think you'll find a lot of people who say no, it isn't.

I was raised in a central London borough and have previously lived on the outskirts (but technically a London borough yes) and have had many a joke with friends over the years regarding what constitutes a London and non London but London borough. Generally speaking my friends would say anything that comes within Zone 6 doesn't really count.

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 23:06

So for me, Bromley and Bexley don't really count as official London boroughs other than their postcodes mean they are included. I've always technically counted London boroughs as those that are on the underground system.

I'd definitely say Bromley is more Kent than London.

BertNErnie · 14/12/2020 23:10

But yes, going by the boundary changes, Bromley is a London borough.

I should have clarified earlier what I meant by my statement. It won't probably make sense to anyone else who wasn't raised where I was, I appreciate this now.
