Leader of Greenwich council tweeted an open letter this afternoon asking schools to close from Tuesday. Our school is complying.

And BBC have said that Islington is also asking for a delayed start to term, nit returning until 11 Jan (so 10 days after any NY gatherings)

EvilPea · 14/12/2020 18:16

Unless they isolate the kids before January return it’s going to be an utter shit show

OverTheRainbow88 · 14/12/2020 18:17

@EvilPea

Agreed. And for the first time in 11 years I’m tempted to call in sick for 2 Weeks

EvilPea · 14/12/2020 18:40

I wouldn’t judge or blame you @OverTheRainbow88 it is going to be a mess.

Starch1e · 14/12/2020 18:53

Waltham Forest schools are all shut now.

YikesMusthaveusername · 14/12/2020 20:09

Greenwich have been ordered to reopen or they'll be taken to the High Court. Just mentioned on Sky News a few minutes ago.

Shock Shock

Bluegreen70 · 14/12/2020 20:15

lets just hope that parents have got more sense than to send their children in

Char2015 · 14/12/2020 20:16

If I were leader I would say bring it on. Plenty of evidence to justify the closing of schools and the safety aspect. I actually think the high court would rule in favour of Greenwich.

Ginogineli · 14/12/2020 20:19

The cases in London now are lower than before London went in lockdown so crazy to shut achools

Char2015 · 14/12/2020 20:21

@Ginogineli

That is not true. In some quite a number of the boroughs the numbers are way higher than before lockdown.
StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 20:21

Delores Umbridge has got his whip out - bullying schools and local authorities. Oh the power

Char2015 · 14/12/2020 20:24

Greenwich have just retweeted their original letter.... looks like they are not backing down.

Ginogineli · 14/12/2020 20:31

not a fraction of what we had in north west - liverpool was 750 /100 000 at one point and schools stayed open fine

tootyfruitypickle · 14/12/2020 20:37

I think the issue is that the cases are concentrated in the schools in London.

What’s happened to the mass testing to keep the schools open?

Char2015 · 14/12/2020 20:45

Greenwich have said they are currently seeking legal advice and will respond to the Government in the morning. Therefore, schools that have planned to be closed from tomorrow will remain closed tomorrow.

starrynight19 · 14/12/2020 20:48

I hope Greenwich stand their ground on this. Let’s see what the high court has to say.

Char2015 · 14/12/2020 20:49

This I feel will be quite a big moment for schools vs Government especially if Greenwich gets the courts on side.

YikesMusthaveusername · 14/12/2020 20:51

I guess the govn doesn't like councils going rogue on them.
Someone mentioned another borough closing all the schools too.
No mention on Sky news of that borough.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 20:51

Hopefully, they will point out to Delores that he hasn't signed the letter (probably because the DfE couldn't find a crayon)and has got the signature date wrong.

(sums up the DfE incompetency)

Char2015 · 14/12/2020 20:52

@StaffAssociationRepresentative

I could not believe it when I saw the date. DfE are useless.

YikesMusthaveusername · 14/12/2020 20:55

Where are you guys seeing these letters? I only heard a brief mention on Sky. Is there an article on it?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 14/12/2020 20:56

They have amended the date now

Too late Gav and the DfE we have all seen it and downloaded it - idiots!
